The alt-right unearths an ugly conspiracy theory to distract from Trump’s Russia meltdown

TwitterFacebook

Die-hard Donald Trump supporters are facing a choice — start acknowledging that their messiah might not be all that great or go deeper down the rabbit hole of Trumpkin insanity.

Rabbit hole it is.

Conservative media and pro-Trump zealots have begun flooding the internet with a conspiracy theory tied to the July 2016 murder of a Democratic National Committee staffer — just hours after the Washington Post broke the news that Trump had divulged classified intelligence to Russian representatives.

By Tuesday morning, the theory was trending on Twitter and dominated most conservative websites and message boards. The story topped Breitbart and Drudge Report at various times and has completely dominated the front page of /r/The_Donald, a subreddit of particularly faithful Trump supporters. Read more…

Sega came up with a way to get fans excited about Sonic the Hedgehog again

TwitterFacebook

It’s been a rough stretch of years for Sonic the Hedgehog, but Sega wants to change that in Sonic Forces.

The upcoming game follows the example set by the earlier Sonic Generations, letting players tackle both 3D worlds (as Modern Sonic) and 2D worlds (as Classic Sonic). But there’s also a third Sonic in this game: the one you create.

Capitalizing on the “Sonic Original Characters” meme — often shortened to Sonic OCs — Forces gives players a full-fledged character creator to play with. You don’t even have to be a hedgehog; there are seven animals to choose from, including dog. So everyone should be a dog, obviously. Read more…

One of Twitter’s cofounders is rejoining the company — and not a moment too soon

TwitterFacebook

Twitter is getting the band back together. Or at least some of it.

Twitter cofounder Biz Stone announced on Tuesday that he’s returning to the company he helped start.

His return is a dose of good news for Twitter amid a rough stretch of executive departures and sub-par growth.

Stone’s role will focus on internal culture.

“My top focus will be to guide the company culture, that energy, that feeling,” he wrote in a Medium post.

Stone noted that he was asked back to Twitter by CEO Jack Dorsey during an event at Twitter headquarters.

“When I stood next to Jack addressing the crowd of employees, I felt the energy, and I was overcome with emotion,” Stone wrote. “I realized in that moment that Twitter was the most important work of my life.” Read more…

Gay jokes about Trump aren’t funny — they’re dangerous

TwitterFacebook

It’s only a few months into Donald Trump’s presidency, and we’re already getting lazy in our resistance. So lazy, in fact, that we’ve started to rely on gay jokes as the ultimate power play to take on Trump and his administration.

From murals of Trump kissing Russian President Vladimir Putin popping up around the world, to Saturday Night Live‘s Press Secretary Sean Spicer locking lips with Trump in the latest episode, jabs at the president’s sexuality have infiltrated the fight against the administration.

But these jokes aren’t funny. They’re dangerous, perpetuating the myth that queerness is a fatal flaw in a person. And if you’re laughing at them, you’re part of the problem. Read more…

Tracy Morgan won’t play PC, goes all out for Netflix’s ‘Staying Alive’

TwitterFacebook

In between interviews about his upcoming Netflix special, Tracy Morgan is taking a break.

The standup comedian and former SNL star — whose 2014 car accident shocked Hollywood — has a line of reporters waiting for him, and when he returns they can hear his voice down the hall of this midtown hotel.

He’s asking someone with him to choose a musical artist to completely erase from history, if they had to; the options are Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Beyoncé.

“The last one,” his companion says, afraid to even say the name. Morgan notices this and laughs. He brushes off the existential artistic question. These days, Morgan vacillates between humor and philosophy and if you can’t handle the combination, you can’t handle him. Read more…

10 books every entrepreneur should read in 2017

TwitterFacebook

Entrepreneurship is a commitment—not only to your venture or business, but also to a unique learning process. Where others seek guidance through big universities and established companies, I know many entrepreneurs like myself who have a desire to go their own way and learning becomes a self-guided experience. As a result, I’ve gained a whole new dimension to my learning experience, having combined it with what I have chosen to read and what I have learned in the field.

Many entrepreneurs are avid readers—not just out of curiosity, but necessity. I love listening to podcasts and audiobooks because it’s something I can do while I’m on the go – whether that is traveling or exercising. Reading is one of the only ways you can learn from the world’s best and brightest, especially those who choose to share their thoughts on paper instead of through a weekly podcast.  Read more…

YouTube just added more of your favorite channels to YouTube TV

TwitterFacebook

It only took a month for YouTube’s TV killer to add to its roster of channels.

YouTube’s live TV offering — conveniently called YouTube TV — now includes AMC, IFC, BBC America, Sundance TV, Telemundo, and We TV, reports 9-to-5 Google.

Those new additions bring YouTube TV’s total channels to 43, including the major broadcast networks and most major cable channels.

Google, through YouTube, is looking to TV as a way to kickstart the video platform’s subscription business and gain broader entry into users’ living rooms. The service is among the most competitive entrants in a growing field of internet-based TV offerings such as Sling, PlayStation Vue, DirecTV Now, and Hulu TV. YouTube TV received a “Mashable Choice,” Mashable‘s spotlight on recommended products, for its $35 package. Read more…
