Glacier National Park used to have 150 glaciers. There are only 26 left

TwitterFacebook

You might want to move up any plans to visit Glacier National Park in Montana.

New data shows that the park’s namesake rivers of ice are rapidly disappearing due to global warming.

The warming climate has slashed the size of 39 Montana glaciers since 1966, according to data released by Portland State University and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on May 10. Only 26 glaciers in the park are large enough to still have flowing ice.

The new data includes boundary information for 37 named glaciers within the boundaries of the national park, and two glaciers on U.S. Forest Service land.  Read more…

James Harden played so bad that Lil B offered to lift the Based God’s curse

TwitterFacebook

Thursday night was a rough one for NBA MVP candidate James Harden, who performed horribly in a playoff elimination loss then got doubly eviscerated on social media for hitting the nightclub scene later that evening.

Just how bad was it? So bad that Lil B, the Bay Area rapper slash internet icon, took pity on Harden by offering to lift his infamous curse on the NBA star.

We broke down the so-called “Based God’s curse” in-depth two years ago, but it boils down to this: When Harden started doing a “cooking dance” after good plays, Lil B took offense because he’d already popularized that dance and felt Harden was not giving proper credit.  Read more…

Face it: Slack is ruining your life

TwitterFacebook

My life is being destroyed by the real-time messaging app, Slack.

When I was first introduced to Slack, I was told it would be a simple way to efficiently communicate with my co-workers during work hours. I was not, however, told that the addictive platform would soon creep into every aspect of my existence and ruin my life.

As the days and weeks passed, I came to realize something very important: Slack is my nightmare. The fast-paced environment gives me heart palpitations, the constant desktop and mobile notifications detract from my ability to enjoy the world around me, and the wide selection of custom emoji reactions is far too overwhelming to deal with — it’s complete chaos. The worst part is, even though I loathe Slack … I can’t delete it. I couldn’t work without it. Read more…

GoPro captures skier’s intense 60-foot fall down into a crevasse

TwitterFacebook

Just before hitting the slope in the Swiss Alps, skier Jamie Mullner tells his buddies that the crevasses at the bottom of the hill always sketch him out.

That should have been a warning sign because guess what? Right after saying that, he fell 60 feet down into a crevasse.

“I’m in a crevasse. I had the GoPro recording, how epic is that?” he said immediately after the fall.

Thankfully, Mullner wasn’t injured from the fall, and he had a radio, which made rescue a lot easier. Eventually, a rope was tossed down to Mullner and he was able to escape the crevasse unscathed.  Read more…

Dear Star Wars fans naming your sons Kylo: Why?

TwitterFacebook

It’s enough to make you wonder how many people actually understood the very basic plot of The Force Awakens

According to the U.S. Social Security Administration’s annual list of baby names released Friday, the name “Kylo” exploded in popularity in 2016. Which suggests a surprising number of fathers would like to end their lives being stabbed through the chest by their estranged emo sons.

The Office of Government Ethics is now trolling Trump on Twitter

TwitterFacebook

Today, we learn that no place and no person is above trolling Donald Trump on the internet.

The Office of Government Ethics, an office under the commander in chief’s jurisdiction, is trolling the president on Twitter in a turn of events that should, at this point, shock absolutely nobody.

The incident happened on Friday after reports that Trump asked former FBI Director James Comey (yes, the one he fired) for his “loyalty” at a private dinner.

NASA nixes plan to put astronauts on the 1st mission of its mega-rocket

TwitterFacebook

Well, that was fun, er, nerve-wracking while it lasted.

After months of study, NASA has decided that it won’t try to send astronauts to space aboard the first flight of its huge Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, designed to eventually bring people and payloads to destinations like Mars or the moon.

While acting NASA administrator Robert Lightfoot said that it would be technically feasible to add crew to the first SLS mission (called Exploration Mission-1 or EM-1), the risk would be too great when compared to the possible benefits.
