Six weeks after beloved Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek informed fans he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, he’s once again checked in with fans. He thanked everyone for all of their well-wishes and says he’s feeling pretty good. 

The video was posted Wednesday afternoon in coordination with the wrap-up of filming on the game show’s 35th (!) season. 

In the quick clip, Trebek says, “I wanted once again to thank you for your continuing messages of encouragement and support, particularly the many cards I’ve received from young people. I’m touched beyond words.”

He also address rumors regarding his health and promises to be back for the next season this fall: “Despite what you may have heard, I’m feeling good, I’m continuing with my therapy, and [the show’s staff] is already working on our next season… So I look forward to seeing you once again in September with all kinds of good stuff.” Read more…

Even if we blow everything on Earth to smithereens tomorrow, there will likely still be a library of 30,000 books, 5,000 languages, plus a complete copy of Wikipedia, somewhere on the moon. 

The only problem: We don’t know exactly where.

Welp, that was fast.

Just hours after Apple and Qualcomm announced that they’d finally settled their long-running legal battle, Intel says it’s abandoning its plans for a 5G smartphone modem. 

“We are very excited about the opportunity in 5G and the ‘cloudification’ of the network, but in the smartphone modem business it has become apparent that there is no clear path to profitability and positive returns,” Intel CEO Bob Swan said in a statement. 

Prior to the Qualcomm settlement, Intel was Apple’s sole modem supplier for the iPhone XS and XR. And Intel was reportedly struggling to deliver its planned 5G modem, raising questions about whether Apple would even be able to deliver a 5G-ready iPhone in 2020.  Read more…

So much for one of the biggest tech courtroom battles in history.

As the smoke settles over Apple and Qualcomm’s sudden agreement to end all litigation between the two companies worldwide, the attention has now turned to the 5G iPhone. 

With the tech giants no longer feuding, what does this mean for the 5G iPhone? Is it back on track for a 2020 release? Maybe, but it’ll be tight.

Prior to Tuesday’s unexpected settlement, many analysts were losing faith in Apple being able to deliver a 5G iPhone by 2020.

Earlier this month, UBS analyst Timothi Arcuri told investors there was “increasing potential that Apple may not be able to ship a 5G iPhone for 2020.” He cited Apple’s failure to secure necessary 5G modems as the main reason why a 5G iPhone might not ship until 2021 at the earliest. Read more…

Those of you who make contact-less payments on Android devices just got a nice new bonus feature to play with.

As spotted by 9to5Google on Monday, Google is rolling out a new Google Pay feature that should make life just a bit more convenient for anyone who uses the mobile wallet system. Thanks to a small update, Google Pay should now be able to link to Gmail and pull in things like airline miles, retail reward points, and hotel benefits that show up in your inbox from time to time.

According to 9to5Google, this can be enabled by going into Google Pay’s settings menu, heading over to the “General” tab, and turning on “Gmail Imports.” Read more…

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter may seem like the perfect destination for your spring break trip, but vacationing Potterheads be warned: You-Know-Who still reigns in Los Angeles.

For a limited time this spring, Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle, a new projection light show at Universal Studios Hollywood, is bringing the dark magic of Lord Voldemort and his legion of Death Eaters to the skies of the park. 

Complete with Dementors, Thestrals, and Acromantulas galore, the highly-anticipated spooky show is a departure from the park’s typically jovial Potter themes. 

“After the success of Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle, which told the story of the four houses, and The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle, which was able to express the emotion of the holidays, we were looking for new stories to tell,” Senior Director of Entertainment Production Stephen Siercks explained to Mashable. The internet is collectively concerned that a 15-year-old YouTuber is pregnant and married. 

Danielle Cohn, who goes by Dani, got her start on Musical.ly before it became the app now known as TikTok. She now has 1.2 million YouTube subscribers and 3.5 million Instagram subscribers. Dani and her mother, who manages her, are controversial figures in the influencer world. When she was 13, Dani was in a relationship with a 17-year-old Musical.ly star, which some of her followers found inappropriate. 

Now, her followers are worried that she’s either married and pregnant, or is pulling an elaborate, inconsiderate prank on the internet for clicks. Public records and an older YouTube video on Dani’s channel seem to point to the latter, but the situation is still hazy.  Read more…

All video creators will be soon be equal on Facebook — at least when it comes to their Facebook Page format.

Facebook has been reaching out to its legions of video creators with Facebook Watch show pages informing them that this page format will soon be no more. These creators will soon find their show pages reverted to Facebook’s video page template. The change was first discovered by social media consultant Matt Navarra and confirmed by Digiday. 

“We can confirm that we’re merging the Show Page template and Video Page template on Facebook,” said a Facebook spokesperson in a statement to Mashable. “We believe this move will help simplify the publishing process for our partners.” Read more…
