Taylor Swift teases ‘Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)’ in a new trailer

A still from the trailer for psychological thriller series 'Wilderness'

Taylor Swift, the mastermind, has given us the first hint of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) in the form of a snippet of “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version).” The song appeared in the trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s new series, Wilderness.

This isn’t the first time Swift has debuted a re-recorded track in an advertisement. The yet-to-be-released “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)” debuted in the trailer for “Spirit Untamed,” “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” was first heard in an ad for Match, and “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” accompanied the trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2.

If there’s one thing we can be certain of it’s that Swift is always going to get that check.

In true Swiftian fashion, the timing lines up with the international leg of The Eras Tour kicking off tomorrow (August 24) in Mexico City.

In the trailer for Wilderness, “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” soundtracks a series of ominous clips from a romantic roadtrip gone awry. Based on Where She Went by B.E. Jones, the UK original psychological thriller follows the revenge-stricken aftermath of the roadtrip.

Wilderness hits Amazon Prime Video on September 15.

Music makes family in this touching trailer for ‘Flora and Son’

A woman with a guitar walks on a street.

Writer/director John Carney — the brilliant mind who brought us Once and Sing Street — is back to warm hearts and yank tears with his latest musical drama, Flora and Son.

The film follows a single, working-class mom in Dublin who’s having trouble connecting with her increasingly rebellious teenage son. In a desperate attempt to reach Max (Orén Kinlan), Flora (Eve Hewson) pulls a guitar out of the trash as a gift for him, but when he rejects it, she decides to give it a whirl herself. It also doesn’t hurt that Eve’s virtual guitar teacher is a swoon-worthy dude across the ocean, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Though Max might not be a huge fan of the guitar, he is a big fan of music, just like his mom — he even makes his own beats, Flora discovers. What ensues is a touching tale of a mother and son finding unity in harmony, and a newfound understanding of each other blessed and borne from music.

Jack Reynor, who previously co-starred in Sing Street before his unforgettable turn in Midsommar, also appears as Eve’s ex, Ian.

How to watch: Flora and Son will premiere in select theaters on Sept. 22. It will then have its global premiere on Apple TV+ on Sept. 29

Wordle today: Here’s the answer and hints for August 23

Woman plays Wordle on her smartphone from the living room of her home receiving an 'Impressive' result using just three guesses

It’s Wednesday! And while the idea of Fyre Festival returning is a reality we’d rather not think about, the good news is there’s another Wordle puzzle to solve. We’re here for you, as we are every day, with some tips and tricks to help you figure out the solution.

If you just want to be told today’s answer, you can jump to the end of this article for August 23’s Wordle solution revealed. But if you’d rather solve it yourself, keep reading for some clues, tips, and strategies to assist you.

Where did Wordle come from?

Originally created by engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner, Wordle rapidly spread to become an international phenomenon, with thousands of people around the globe playing every day. Alternate Wordle versions created by fans also sprang up, including battle royale Squabble, music identification game Heardle, and variations like Dordle and Quordle that make you guess multiple words at once.

Wordle eventually became so popular that it was purchased by the New York Times, and TikTok creators even livestream themselves playing.

Not the day you’re after? Here’s the Wordle answer for Aug 22.

What’s the best Wordle starting word?

The best Wordle starting word is the one that brings you the most joy. But if you like being strategic in your approach, we have a few ideas to help you pick a word that might help you find the solution faster. One tip is to select a word that includes at least two different vowels, plus some common consonants like S, T, R, or N.

What happened to the Wordle archive?

The entire archive of past Wordle puzzles used to be available for anyone to enjoy whenever they felt like it. Unfortunately, it has since been taken down, with the website’s creator stating it was done at the request of the New York Times.

Is Wordle getting harder?

It might feel like Wordle is getting harder, but it actually isn’t any more difficult than when it first began. You can turn on Wordle‘s Hard Mode if you’re after more of a challenge, though.

Why are there two different Wordle answers some days?

Though usually Wordle will only accept one correct solution per day, occasionally it has rebelled against the norm and deem two different answers acceptable. This is due to changes the New York Times made to Wordle after it acquired the puzzle game.

The Times has since added its own updated word list, so this should happen even less frequently than before. To avoid any confusion, it’s a good idea to refresh your browser before getting stuck into a new puzzle.

Here’s a subtle hint for today’s Wordle answer:

It’s a bittersweet symphony.

Does today’s Wordle answer have a double letter?

You’d better sit down. There’s two double letters today.

Today’s Wordle is a 5-letter word that starts with…

Today’s Wordle starts with the letter V.

Drumroll please!

The solution to Wordle #795 is…

VERVE.

Don’t feel down if you didn’t manage to guess it this time. There will be a new Wordle for you to stretch your brain with tomorrow, and we’ll be back again to guide you with more helpful hints.

‘Quordle’ today: Here are the answers and hints for August 23, 2023

A woman's hands holding a mobile phone playing 'Quordle'

If Quordle is a little too challenging today, you’ve come to the right place for hints. There aren’t just hints here, but the whole Quordle solution. Scroll to the bottom of this page, and there it is. But are you sure you need all four answers? Maybe you just need a strategy guide. Either way, scroll down, and you’ll get what you need.

What is Quordle?

Quordle is a five-letter word guessing game similar to Wordle, except each guess applies letters to four words at the same time. You get nine guesses instead of six to correctly guess all four words. It looks like playing four Wordle games at the same time, and that is essentially what it is. But it’s not nearly as intimidating as it sounds.

Is Quordle harder than Wordle?

Yes, though not diabolically so.

Where did Quordle come from?

Amid the Wordle boom of late 2021 and early 2022, when everyone was learning to love free, in-browser, once-a-day word guessing games, creator Freddie Meyer says he took inspiration from one of the first big Wordle variations, Dordle — the one where you essentially play two Wordles at once. He took things up a notch, and released Quordle on January 30. Meyer’s creation was covered in The Guardian six days later, and now, according to Meyer, it attracts millions of daily users. Today, Meyer earns modest revenue from Patreon, where dedicated Quordle fans can donate to keep their favorite puzzle game running.

How is Quordle pronounced?

“Kwordle.” It should rhyme with “Wordle,” and definitely should not be pronounced exactly like “curdle.”

Is Quordle strategy different from Wordle?

Yes and no.

Your starting strategy should be the same as with Wordle. In fact, if you have a favorite Wordle opening word, there’s no reason to change that here. We suggest something rich in vowels, featuring common letters like C, R, and N. But you do you.

After your first guess, however, you’ll notice things getting out of control if you play Quordle exactly like Wordle.

What should I do in Quordle that I don’t do in Wordle?

Solving a Wordle puzzle can famously come down to a series of single letter-change variations. If you’ve narrowed it down to “-IGHT,” you could guess “MIGHT” “NIGHT” “LIGHT” and “SIGHT” and one of those will probably be the solution — though this is also a famous way to end up losing in Wordle, particularly if you play on “hard mode.” In Quordle, however, this sort of single-letter winnowing is a deadly trap, and it hints at the important strategic difference between Wordle and Quordle: In Quordle, you can’t afford to waste guesses unless you’re eliminating as many letters as possible at all times.

Guessing a completely random word that you already know isn’t the solution, just to eliminate three or four possible letters you haven’t tried yet, is thought of as a desperate, latch-ditch move in Wordle. In Quordle, however, it’s a normal part of the player’s strategic toolset.

Is there a way to get the answer faster?

In my experience Quordle can be a slow game, sometimes dragging out longer than it would take to play Wordle four times. But a sort of blunt-force guessing approach can speed things up. The following strategy also works with Wordle if you only want the solution, and don’t care about having the fewest possible guesses:

Try starting with a series of words that puts all the vowels (including Y) on the board, along with some other common letters. We’ve had good luck with the three words: “NOTES,” “ACRID,” and “LUMPY.” YouTuber DougMansLand suggests four words: “CANOE,” “SKIRT,” “PLUMB,” and “FUDGY.”

Most of the alphabet is now eliminated, and you’ll only have the ability to make one or two wrong guesses if you use this strategy. But in most cases you’ll have all the information you need to guess the remaining words without any wrong guesses.

If strategy isn’t helping, and you’re still stumped, here are some hints:

Are there any double or triple letters in today’s Quordle words?

One word has a double letter.

Are any rare letters being used in today’s Quordle like Q or Z?

X.

What do today’s Quordle words start with?

C, A, C, and A.

What are the answers for today’s Quordle?

Are you sure you want to know?

There’s still time to turn back.

OK, you asked for it. The answers are:

  1. COAST

  2. AWOKE

  3. CLOTH

  4. ANNEX

Meta’s new AI model is a real-time translation expert

Meta graphic showing text to speech translation options for SeamlessM4T

Meta’s latest AI output is a major advancement for real-time text and speech translation.

On Tuesday, the company released SeamlessM4T: a multimodal model that translates text to speech and vice versa. Meta claims SeamlessM4T is “the first all-in-one multilingual multimodal AI translation and transcription model,” meaning it is uniquely able to translate and transcribe languages at the same time. SeamlessM4T can translate speech-to-text, speech-to-speech, text-to-speech, and text-to-text inputs for up to 100 languages. Translations for speech-to-speech and text-to-speech translations outputs support 35 languages.

SEE ALSO:

A giant online book collection Meta used to train its AI is gone over copyright issues

Like other AI models recently released by Meta, including Llama 2 and AudioCraft, SeamlessM4T is publicly available for researchers and developers with a research license. Alongside the model, Meta is also releasing its training dataset called SeamlessAlign, which has 270,000 hours of speech and text alignments. Unlike OpenAI and Google, Meta has made a point of making its models open-source and publicly available. Meta’s approach of launching open-source models has the dual effect of enabling developers to build and improve the products, while also winning points amongst AI ethicists who are calling for transparency of generative AI systems.

Meta’s open-source approach may seem altruistic, but it’s a strategic power move in a ruthlessly competitive market against other big tech companies developing AI. There’s also the issue of data collection that all AI models must contend with. According to the blog post, SeamlessM4T’s dataset (SeamlessAlign) consists of publicly available data, there are ethical and legal issues surrounding use of copyrighted works and personal data without consent.

Meta’s announcement didn’t detail specific plans for SeamlessM4T, only hinting that it wants “to explore how this foundational model can enable new communication capabilities.” In other words, we might someday see a consumer-facing version of SeamlessM4T on WhatsApp or Instagram.

‘Rebel Moon’ trailer: Zack Snyder’s space opera is here

A woman in a hooded cloak looks up to the sky.

The first teaser for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is here, and by the looks of it, the director is going full Star Wars.

Rebel Moon, which will be released in two parts, transports us to a galaxy ruled over by the tyrannical Mother World. This evil empire has set its sights on conquering all — even the peaceful moon colony of Veldt, all the way out at the edge of the galaxy. As the Mother World’s forces approach Veldt, it’s up to Kora (Sofia Boutella), a woman with a mysterious off-Veldt past, to recruit a ragtag team of warriors from different worlds to fight the threat.

Kora’s journey won’t be easy, but judging by the teaser, it will be epic. This first trailer is chock-full of action-packed sequences, from a sword fight with a spider woman to an encounter with a majestic winged beast. Oh, and there’s a solid amount of Snyder’s signature slo-mo, so we can take in every last moment of this supersized space opera.

Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire premieres on Netflix Dec. 22, while Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver premieres on Netflix Apr. 19.

TikTok will now show you ads on the search results screen

TikTok app store screen

Just a few months after Instagram introduced ads in search results, TikTok is doing the same thing. In both cases, it’s a little shocking that it took this long.

TikTok announced the change in a blog post meant for advertisers on Tuesday. Folks who spend money to promote content on TikTok will be able to flip a toggle that will make their ad content show up alongside organic search results when a user searches for something. The ads will show up based on “relevancy” and “user intent” (though TikTok’s blog post didn’t clarify how those things are being calculated),” so their placement won’t be totally random.

SEE ALSO:

Which countries have banned TikTok?

This may sound insidious, and maybe it is, but at least it’s not hard to spot an ad on TikTok. The new ads in the search feed will have a “Sponsored” tag on them so they’re easy to discern from the stuff you actually want to see. And who knows, with TikTok dominating so many people’s screentime these days, maybe you do want to see ads on there. It certainly makes sense from an advertiser perspective.

Between this and TikTok aiming to launch its own e-commerce platform at some point, it may not be long before the app does a lot more than just feed users an algorithmic slurry of videos.

The Frame is one of Samsung’s most-famous new inventions. It’s an ultra-thin 4K TV that comes in a handsome frame. You’re gonna be exposed to billions of color shades with Samsung’s 100% Color Volume, meaning the clarity and contrast of this TV is truly something. Thanks to these impressive specs, the famous Art Mode feature is truly stunning.
