Timelapse footage of a blizzard dumping feet of snow on a neighborhood is giving people a glimpse at how powerful winter storms can be.
According to the video description, the video was captured via Nest cam in the town of St. John’s in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The timelapse captures 24 hours of the storm when it blew through on Friday, starting at about 5:30 in the morning.
The storm dumped 30 inches of snow in parts of St John’s, according to the Washington Post, and even created drifts upwards of 12 feet high.

Cars from Google spin-off Waymo have logged 20 million milesRussia’s Yandex and China’s Baidu have programmed cars to stop at streetlights, yield to pedestrians, and pass slow vehicles.

The chipmaker is focused on giving car companies a “plug-and-play supported platform.” That means a carmaker can pick and choose what tools and features they want built into the car, from warning systems to fully automated highway driving. They were once abundant, in our hairsprays, bug sprays, and refrigerators. And then scientists figured out these substances ripped a hole in the ozone layer, leading to a 1987 plan to phase them out that over time would be agreed to by every country in the world.
More than three decades later, researchers have made a new discovery.
Ozone-depleting substances do more than just gnaw at Earth’s protective layer. They’re also greenhouse gases, so they contribute to the planet’s overall warming by trapping heat, too. And now we may know just how much these substances have contributed to Arctic warming, thanks to a study published in the science journal Nature on Monday. Read more…

Bong Joon-ho is the dad you’ve always wanted to make proud.
His black comedy Parasite made history on Sunday night when it won the Screen Actors’ Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. It’s the first non-English film to win the award. Director Bong Joon-ho couldn’t be more proud — like a parent recording his kids’ first steps, he whipped out his phone and took pictures of his cast throughout the ceremony.
