Oklahoma mom ’embarrassed’ that her child’s textbook once belonged to Blake Shelton

TwitterFacebook

Don’t take it too personally, Blake – this isn’t really about you.

As Oklahoma mother Shelly Bryan Parker shared on Facebook this week, she was “embarrassed” to find that a textbook she believes was once used by singer Blake Shelton in the 1980s is the same book her young daughter is using in school today. Shelton originally hails from Ada, the same town that Parker and her daughter call home.

The problem for Parker isn’t Shelton, but Shelton’s age – or, rather, the age of her child’s textbook.

“I’m 40 and these people are my age!!!” she wrote. “Thank you to every teacher/parent/support staffer/etc. for fighting for my kids education!!! Don’t give up until education is FULLY FUNDED!!!!” Read more…

New ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ TV ad spends a lot of time in Wakanda

TwitterFacebook

There’s not one Starbucks to be found in Wakanda, apparently.

The new “Chant” TV spot for Avengers: Infinity War highlights how the Earth’s mightiest heroes assemble to face off against the forces of Thanos on Black Panther’s home turf. There’s plenty of new footage to feast your eyes on, and that’s about the extent of it.

Marvel has been more cagey than usual about its Infinity War story, which ties together all of the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe releases to date. Just this week, directors Anthony and Joe Russo issued a weird threat on social media regarding spoilers.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27. Read more…

Watch Kendall Jenner rave about ‘Incredibles 2’ fashion icon Edna Mode

TwitterFacebook

Talk to any fashion insider and they’ll tell you: Edna Mode is an icon. The ultra-chic superhero costume designer from Pixar’s The Incredibles returns this June for Incredibles 2, and to hear the fashion elite — like Vogue‘s Andre Leon Talley and model Kendall Jenner — tell it, she’s still industry royalty.

As Jenner puts it, “She’s a visionary, a giant – I mean, well, not literally. She comes up to my knees.”

(Weirdly, Pixar released a very similar video last summer, featuring interview clips from what are apparently the same chats featured in this new video.) Read more…

A guide to floral foam videos, the slime videos of 2018

TwitterFacebook

For what seemed like eons, but was really just most of 2017, the internet was deeply into slime.

Though slime videos are still a mainstay of the Instagram Discover page, our natural inclination to change things up has led us down the path to other forms of ASMR entertainment, including soap cutting and kinetic sand slicing.

Elsewhere on Instagram, another ASMR-friendly trend is emerging in the form of crunchy, squishy, glitter-heavy floral foam videos.

Prince gets a brand new tribute in the form of a flowering bush

TwitterFacebook

On Sunday, artist Christine Stein stepped outside her California home to discover a surprise: The massive bush growing behind her custom tribute to the late musician Prince had bloomed for the first time.

Though the mural itself attracted attention back in 2016, it found new online fame after Stein shared a photo of the surrounding the bush in bloom on Twitter.

‘Black Panther’ sinks ‘Titanic’ in the most obvious box office headline ever

TwitterFacebook

Mark your calendars, box office nerds: Saturday, April 7 is the day Black Panther became the third-biggest movie in U.S. box office history.

It’s not exactly a surprise. Marvel’s latest toppled Jurassic World earlier in the week to claim the #4 position on the all-time domestic box office charts. That left it roughly $7 million behind the third-place record holder, James Cameron’s Titanic.

SEE ALSO: These are the top highest grossing Marvel movies of all time

We predicted at the time that Black Panther would ascend to #3 in the coming days, and now, here we are. With an estimated $659.2 million in domestic ticket sales after Friday night, the movie would have to spontaneously disappear from all theaters everywhere to finish Saturday without beating Titanic‘s $659.4 million. Trump made the Mooch get shot in the butt because he’s a germaphobe

TwitterFacebook

Anthony Scaramucci was in the White House for only ten glorious days, but he’s still bringing us all on a wild ride of headlines. Apparently, President Trump made him get a shot in the ass before he was allowed to sit near the Germaphobe in Chief.

The Mooch spoke at NYU’s College Republicans chapter on Thursday night and chatted about the New Yorker interview that ended his stint as White House communications director. You know, the interview where he called a reporter and said, “I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own cock.”

Twitter can’t decide if it wants to kill third-party apps

TwitterFacebook

Twitter’s complicated relationship with developers is about to get a whole lot worse.

That’s because the company can’t seem to make up its mind on whether it wants to keep third-party Twitter clients around.

SEE ALSO: Twitter’s murky verification process is helping cryptocurrency scams thrive

Some quick background for those who aren’t up to speed on Twitter developers’ latest headaches: a year ago, the company announced a bunch of changes to its developer policies that the company billed as its latest effort to make the platform a more hospitable place for developers.

But what it didn’t publicize, was that the sweeping API changes would also impose new limits that would effectively “break” the vast majority of third-party Twitter clients. Making matters worse, Twitter never made the beta version of its new API widely available to these developers, who were growing increasingly worried their apps would stop working as of the June 19, 2018, migration date.  Read more…

Molly Ringwald’s ‘New Yorker’ essay is a powerful must-read

TwitterFacebook

In an extremely personal essay for The New Yorker, actress Molly Ringwald wrote about revisiting her teen classic The Breakfast Club with her daughter, and about how we reexamine stories in the post #MeToo era.

SEE ALSO: America’s sweetheart Molly Ringwald was harassed, and the sickening Hollywood stories just don’t end

The Breakfast Club contains many sexual references, including a scene where it is applied that John  (Judd Nelson) inappropriately touches Claire (Ringwald) under a table. This time, Ringwald watched the scene with her young daughter, and it stayed with her.

Ringwald came forward in October, shortly after the Weinstein allegations, and spoke about her experience with sexual misconduct in Hollywood as a teen star. Since that and the resultant reexamination of Hollywood’s gender dynamics and power structures, many have taken a second look at pop culture’s advocacy of toxic masculinity, such as with romantic comedies where a man pursues a woman until she relents.
