Nintendo confirms Mr. Resetti lost his job thanks to ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’

TwitterFacebook

In this economy, we all live under the ever-present threat of layoffs and unemployment. That’s even true for iconic video game characters, like the polarizing Mr. Resetti, an infamous character from the first Animal Crossing game.

In an interview with Mashable during E3 2019, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ project lead Aya Kyogoku officially announced that Mr. Resetti lost his job at the Reset Surveillance Center due to  the upcoming Switch title’s new auto-save function.

“I think this will be a positive thing for the player, because in New Horizons you can stop playing in the middle of your game and it’ll still save,” says Kyogoku. “But unfortunately because there’s no necessity to reset the game or reset button on the Switch, Mr. Resetti had a hard time. He was laid off from his position.” Read more…

Clever new campaign reveals dangers of abstinence-only sex ed

TwitterFacebook

It can be hard to convey the danger of abstinence-only sex ed programs, but a new set of trading cards is hoping to do exactly that.

The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS), Advocates for Youth, and Answer, nonprofit organizations that promote comprehensive sex ed, have partnered to create a new campaign called #SRAisAbstinenceOnly.

The campaign calls out the rise of sexual risk avoidance (SRA) curriculum to teach sex ed. While “sexual risk avoidance” may sound nice, it’s really just a rebranding of abstinence-only-until-marriage, which the new trading cards effectively illustrate. Read more…

11 of the best personal finance apps for clueless millennials

TwitterFacebook

Millennials, avocado toast, bad spending habits, blah blah blah. At this point, the dead horse has been thoroughly beaten and shipped off to the glue factory.

Anyone born between 1981 and 1996 knows all too well that millennials get a bad rap when it comes to all things personal finance — as if we *wanted* lifelong student loan debt, a housing affordability crisis, or a gig economy in which well-paying jobs with benefits are basically unicorns.

… But we digress. The thing is, millennials are actually pretty savvy when it comes to money management and financial planning, or at least way more so than most people think. We budget and save almost as much as baby boomers do, and more than half of us have a savings goal. (The same can’t been said for older generations.) Plus, we can spot a bad value a mile away — sorry, napkins — and we know a scam when we see one. (See: the diamond industry, marriage.) Read more…

TwitterFacebook

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final is upon us and for the first year ever there might be more drama off the ice than on it thanks to the cast of *checks notes* off-air NBC comedy The Office.

Ever since stars John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer learned their favorite hockey teams — the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues — would be battling for the cup there’s been trouble in paradise for Jim and Pam. Even Steve Carell picked a side.

It all comes down to tonight. Game 7#LetsGoBlues #StanleyCup #Gloria #TeamPam @StLouisBlues @NHL @johnkrasinski pic.twitter.com/smGBAAi4t8
