Get ready for more autonomous vehicles to start delivering Domino’s pizza

TwitterFacebook

Autonomous cars are now bringing pizza pies instead of groceries to customer’s homes.

On Monday, the self-driving company Nuro announced a partnership with Domino’s Pizza in Houston. Nuro has been dropping off Kroger groceries in the Texas city since earlier this year. Kroger uses the self-driving vehicles to haul grocery bags to online shoppers in other cities like Phoenix.

Now Houston residents can order a pizza through the Domino’s app and then track the pizza as it makes its way to their home without a driver in sight. Once someone makes an order, they’re given a PIN code to unlock the compartment on the Nuro vehicle and retrieve their pizza from the vehicle. Remember, there’s no delivery person to bring it to the doorway.  Read more…

The DNC’s latest attempt at being relatable on Twitter has everyone cringing

TwitterFacebook

Political parties aren’t exactly known for their “hip” social media accounts, but most maintain some semblance of class.

Every once in a while, the Republicans or Democrats will post something so humiliating that Twitter users have no choice but to reply. Take, for example, this tweet that the official Democratic National Committee Twitter account posted on Saturday morning and which has since attracted highly understandable amounts of groaning from Twitter.

The tweet features a phone wallpaper with President Trump’s face and the words “Boy Bye” (a famous Beyoncé lyric from the song “Sorry”) placed on top of it. Users can download the kewl wallpaper for their phone by texting a five-digit number.  Read more…

Study links teen sexting with risky behavior and worse mental health

TwitterFacebook

A major new study found worrisome associations between teen sexting and mental health as well as risky sexual behavior. Youth who sext, compared to those who don’t, were more likely to have multiple sexual partners, experience anxiety and depression, and drink alcohol, take drugs, and smoke. They were also less likely to use contraception. The associations were stronger in younger adolescents.

But before teens (and their parents) panic about how sexting might upend their lives, they should know that the scientists who conducted the research don’t yet understand whether sending or receiving sexually explicit messages directly led to any of the negative outcomes.  Read more…

Someone wanted a Mariah Carey birthday cake. They got Marie Curie instead.

TwitterFacebook

Mariah Carey or Marie Curie? A not-so-common mix-up, but one that saw quite the birthday blunder.

In a tweet, author Harriet Alida Lye explained that her cousin, Siobhan, told her colleagues in England she wanted a cake with singer Mariah Carey’s face on it — a perfectly reasonable request for one’s birthday.

You’d think one of the world’s most recognisable pop stars would be a piece of, uh, cake for most people to organise, but in this case, Lye’s cousin received a cake featuring Noble Prize-winning French physicist Marie Curie.

“They misunderstood, and [this] is the cake they made her instead,” Lye wrote. “It’s Marie Curie, looking very festive.” Read more…

Stain removal videos on YouTube are strangely therapeutic

TwitterFacebook

Stain removal is an art form, and one that few have actually mastered.

That’s why I turn to YouTube to get my stain removal needs satisfied. I’ve spent years trying everything to get the stains off my clothes. I’ve gone through multiple Tide to Go pens, which are supposed to erase away most stains (they don’t). I have poured half-bottles of detergent on my wine-soaked sheets. Beautiful bottles of club soda have been wasted on carpet stains, all for nothing.

Despite all my efforts, I’m nowhere near as talented as the people who showcase their stain remove techniques on YouTube. These people have skill. Their mastery of stain removal is seemingly unmatched. I don’t even care if their stain removal videos are doctored — I’m here for the magic of it all.  Read more…

Of course there’s a deepfake of Jon Snow apologizing for Season 8 of ‘Game of Thrones’

TwitterFacebook

“Eating Things,” a Youtube channel usually dedicated to making videos about eating incongruous meals in the middle of famous movie scenes, leveled up with a deepfake featuring Jon Snow apologizing for Season 8 of Game of Thrones. The voice sounds so similar to Kit Harington’s Jon Snow accent it’s hard to discern it from the real thing, except when the (former) King in the North mentions the Starbucks cup and apologizes for wasting viewers’ time with the final season. That much is definitely fake.  Read more…
