David Harbour is Ernest the friendly ghost in ‘We Have a Ghost’ trailer

Two teenagers drive a sports car, while a ghost peeks out in the backseat.

One of the top ten rules of cinema dictates that whenever a family moves into a new home for a fresh start, there’s sure to be a ghost lurking in the shadows.

Based on the short story “Ernest” by Geoff Manaugh, Netflix’s We Have a Ghost follows a teenage boy’s discovery of a ghost in his new home, that’s played by none other than David Harbour. Personally, if I found out David Harbour was haunting my home as a ghost called Ernest, I would not complain, and it seems that the sentiment is shared with Kevin’s (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) family.

Ernest immediately becomes some sort of a family friend, with Kevin adamant on finding out what happened to him in his life. He’s also become a viral sensation thanks to a video Kevin took of him, and everyone from Jennifer Coolidge (playing a famous medium) to the CIA wants a shot of Ernest. Well, the CIA actually wants to capture Ernest which leaves Kevin with no choice but to hit the road with Ernest by his side and the CIA at his heels.

The rollercoaster adventure of a ghost that everyone can see is loaded with hilarious hijinks and an erratic Coolidge jumping out of a window (I’m suddenly getting war flashbacks to a certain boat in Sicily), and promises to be a wild ride filled with frights and fun.

We Have a Ghost‘s cast also includes Tig Notaro, Erica Ash, and Anthony Mackie.

We Have a Ghost premieres on Netflix Feb. 24.
