Hundreds of pooping vultures occupy CBP radio tower in Texas

Hundreds of pooping vultures occupy CBP radio tower in Texas

It is one of fate’s grand ironies that those who literally feed off the weak and dying should stand together against those oppressing society’s most vulnerable. And yet, hundreds of literal vultures are presently occupying a Customs and Border Protection tower in southern Texas at this very moment.

So reports Quartz, which got its hands on a particularly beautiful CBP request for information. It seems that 300 vultures — yes, three hundred — have decided to call a Kingsville, Texas, radio tower their home. CBP, which operates the tower, is looking for “netting solutions” that could prevent even more vultures from nesting there.  Read more…

Reddit bests Facebook by rolling out a superior deepfakes policy

Reddit bests Facebook by rolling out a superior deepfakes policy

Reddit and Facebook are two very different social media platforms. As true as that may be, however, it’s difficult not to conclude “shots fired” with the timing of the former’s newest policy.

On Thursday, the popular social news site unveiled a brand new policy meant to curb impersonation and maliciously deceptive media on the platform.

The new Reddit policy reads as follows:

Basically, Reddit is quashing lies and disinformation on the site. Users cannot try to legitimately pass off as another individual or entity. For example, a user cannot register the username of a celebrity and truly pretend to be that celebrity on the site. While that’s the most weaponized scenario, Reddit is also specific in pointing out forgery and fake articles, and links are covered under this policy too.  Read more…

Olympic committee bans taking a knee, raising a fist in protest at 2020 Tokyo games

Olympic committee bans taking a knee, raising a fist in protest at 2020 Tokyo games

If you happen to be an Olympic athlete, the International Olympic Committee doesn’t want you taking a knee at the Tokyo summer games.

Or using hand gestures with a political meaning. Or displaying any political messaging on signs.

On Thursday, the IOC released athlete guidelines outlining what protest actions Olympians can and can’t take at the 2020 Tokyo Games, which start in July.

The guidelines, developed so that athletes can participate in the games “without any divisive disruption,” prohibit some forms of political protest and demonstration, such as “displaying any political messaging, including signs or armbands,” and “gestures of a political nature, like a hand gesture or kneeling.” They also outlaw refusal to follow any Olympic Ceremonies protocol.   Read more…

These YouTube videos of Florence Pugh singing will restore your youth

These YouTube videos of Florence Pugh singing will restore your youth

This morning I (26F) woke up at 5:00 a.m. feeling approximately 82 years old. My head was foggy from exhaustion, my body hurt from a fall I’d taken on the ice, and I was emotionally worn out from the current news cycle. I remained in this sorry state for a few hours, and then something miraculous happened: I stumbled upon Florence Pugh’s old YouTube channel and felt like a teen again.

In an interview with the New York Times that published on Monday, Pugh revealed that she used to upload videos of herself singing and playing the acoustic guitar to YouTube. You may know Pugh from recent performances in films like Midsommar and Little Women or as the 24-year-old who’s proudly dating 44-year-old actor Zach Braff, but I doubt you know her as “Flossie Rose,” the name she used when posting her YouTube videos in 2013. Subaru's newest car f*cks, if you believe the name they gave it

Subaru unveiled its latest Forester model and we have to say it: It fucks.

The company showcased a number of new models at the 2020 Singapore Motor Show. One, though, stood out from the rest thanks to its extremely confident name.

The Forester Ultimate Customized Kit Special edition.

The F.U.C.K.S. edition. They wrote it out on their display like that and everything.

Zuckerberg’s New Year’s resolution is to give up New Year’s resolutions

Zuckerberg's New Year's resolution is to give up New Year's resolutions

Giving up? Now that’s a resolution the common person can get behind.

Facebook CEO and laser enthusiast Mark Zuckerberg has a decade-long tradition of setting a yearly “personal challenge” for himself. And while they’ve frequently been, well, a bit odd, this year he’s going in a different direction. Specifically, Zuckerberg announced today that he’s abandoning the very concept of a yearly personal challenge.

Which, hell yeah, why not I guess?

“Every new year of the last decade I set a personal challenge,” wrote Zuckerberg. “… This decade I’m going to take a longer term focus. Rather than having year-to-year challenges, I’ve tried to think about what I hope the world and my life will look in 2030 so I can make sure I’m focusing on those things.”  Read more…
