Rare frilled shark with unusual teeth and ‘snake-like’ head found off Portugal’s coast

TwitterFacebook

Sink your teeth into this.

A little-known frilled shark has been found off the Algarve coast in Portugal by scientists, who were conducting research on minimising unwanted catches in European fisheries.

It’s a rare discovery given the depths in which the shark Chlamydoselachus anguineus is found, living 500 to 1,000 metres below the sea. In this case, the shark was caught at a depth of 700 metres.

Researchers from Portugal’s national meteorological, seismic, sea and atmospheric organisation, IPMA, said it was a “true living fossil,” because its remains had been unchanged for 80 million years, according to BBC News‘ translation of a Sic Noticias report. Read more…

Here’s why it’s a bad idea to put your phone’s screen up on live TV

TwitterFacebook

Sometimes the thought of sabotaging your friend’s live TV appearance proves too difficult to resist.

Ted Kravitz, a pit lane reporter for Sky Sports’ Formula 1 coverage, was at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Kravitz was showing off pictures of New Zealand driver Brendon Hartley as a child on his phone in his segment Ted’s Notebook, explaining why Hartley had chosen the number 28 for his car.

Kesha performs powerful anthem on a rainbow, becomes engulfed in glitter

TwitterFacebook

Pop singer Kesha smashed out another powerful performance at the 2017 MTV EMAs on Sunday, bringing cathartic single “Learn to Let Go” to the stage with glitter and rainbows aplenty.

Hitting London’s SSE Arena Wembley, the highly underestimated singer performed the self-healing anthem from her latest album, Rainbow. A simulated rainbow engulfs Kesha and her dancers, before a bona fide glitter storm erupts.

The single, released in July, comes from her first album since the sexual abuse claims and legal ordeal with Sony producer Dr. Luke.

“As much as our past creates who we are, we can’t let it define us or hold us back. And especially if you’ve been through something hard, and we all have, you can’t hold on to resentment because it’s like a poison,” Kesha wrote of the song in HuffPost. Read more…

Eminem performs ‘Walk on Water’ live for the first time (sans Beyoncé, sadly)

TwitterFacebook

Eminem’s Revival is off to a great start.

Two days after the rapper dropped the first track from his new album, he showed up at the MTV EMAs to perform it in person.

And even though Beyoncé wasn’t around to lend her vocals this time, Eminem had no trouble commanding the stage with his intense, introspective performance. (Skylar Grey, who co-wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” subbed in for Beyoncé’s parts.)

Eminem’s spent the past several weeks teasing the impending release of Revival – his first new album in four years – but as of now, we don’t know exactly when it’ll hit. If the rollout of “Walk on Water” is any indication, though, Eminem still knows exactly how to make a big splash.  Read more…
