ABC picks up ‘Roseanne’ spinoff without Roseanne

TwitterFacebook

The Conners are coming back – minus one.

After Roseanne Bar’s racist tweet immediately resulted in ABC canceling the wildly popular revival, rumors about a spinoff show circulated.

Now, ABC has finally confirming that The Conners will premiere next fall, taking over the Tuesday 8 p.m. slot left open by Roseanne

It will feature the entirety of the revival cast, aside from the very character who used to be the show’s namesake. The current order calls for an initial ten-episode run.

YouTube just made it easier for creators to make money without ads

TwitterFacebook

Just one day after Instagram revealed its new, YouTube-like service, YouTube is announcing new features meant to entice its most influential users.

The Google-owned platform announced two new features that will help video creators make more money from their channels: the ability to sell merchandise alongside their videos, and the ability to sell paid memberships.

For creators, these updates represent two potentially significant forms of additional revenue that aren’t advertising.

Until now, merchandising has been available to a handful of beta testers but hasn’t been widely available. Beginning tomorrow, it will be available to any U.S.-based channel with at least 10,000 subscribers. The result of a partnership with e-commerce platform Teespring, the feature lets channel-owners sell branded T-shirts, phone cases, mugs, and other items. Read more…

New report finds abysmal diversity numbers among film directors in 2017

TwitterFacebook

Organizations like Time’s Up are fighting long, hard battles against systemic discrimination in Hollywood. And a new study on the state of diversity among film directors shows not only how much work lies ahead, but how desperately needed these movements for change are.

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) released its annual inclusion report for 2017 on June 21, and the numbers leave a lot to be desired.

The study found that a mere 16% of women directed the 651 feature films accounted for by the DGA, which run the gamut from big budget blockbusters to modest indie productions. When it came to movies that grossed over $250,000 at the box office, that number plummeted even further down to 12%.  Read more…

Kim Kardashian West said she wants President Trump ‘to win’ and people are not happy

TwitterFacebook

In May, Kim Kardashian West met with President Donald Trump in a successful effort to free a great-grandmother serving a life sentence in prison for a first-time drug offense. Now it seems as if her willingness to believe in the Trump administration is still holding strong.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kardashian West took a break from selling beauty products at her KKW Beauty pop-up store to talk politics. She shared her thoughts on the ongoing “zero-tolerance” immigration policy that’s separated families at the U.S. and Mexico border — but it’s her comments about Trump and his administration that have people cringing. MoviePass is launching surge pricing — but it’s not as bad as you think

TwitterFacebook

MoviePass isn’t going down without a fight. The subscription-based movie ticket service is about to face major competition from AMC and will introduce several new measures in July to fight financial ruin.

Among those changes are a bring-a-friend option, IMAX and 3D movies, and surge pricing – like Uber.

MoviePass C.E.O. Mitch Lowe told Business Insider that “high demand” movies will incur an additional $2 fee when purchased through MoviePass (depending on time as well). That’s $2 on top of the $9.95 most users are paying per month for unlimited movies in theaters, and less than a box of Sno-Caps.  Read more…

Melania’s tone deaf jacket gets instantly burned by memes

TwitterFacebook

The First Lady made it too easy.

Melania Trump made a surprise visit to Texas on Thursday to meet detained immigrant children at the U.S. border. Considering she’s been laying low for the past few weeks, you’d think it’s a step forward for her as a public figure. Remember that whole “where’s Melania” debacle in May?

But in some sort of bizarrely insensitive fashion no-no, Melania decided to board the plane to the middle of a major human rights debate wearing a long green jacket that said “I don’t really care, do u?” on the back. Read more…

Elon Musk gets into it with former Tesla employee he sued for alleged data hacking

TwitterFacebook

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been quieter than usual on Twitter for the past day — maybe because he’s too busy emailing a former employee he called out for “sabotage” and proceeded to sue for stealing trade secrets and data about the electric car company.

The Washington Post obtained an email exchange between Musk and Martin Tripp, the former Nevada Gigafactory process technician worker, Tesla sued Wednesday. The emails were sent the same days the suit was filed in a district court in Nevada.

8 mind-bending questions ‘Westworld’ needs to answer in its Season 2 finale

TwitterFacebook

There is no other show on television quite like Westworld when it comes to keeping an audience guessing until the last minute. The entire first season of the show was predicated on not knowing who certain characters really were, when certain events were happening, and what all of its cryptic philosophical catchphrases really meant. The second season is more of the same.

SEE ALSO: Here’s how Westworld brought the Drone Hosts to life

While some of the lingering questions of Season 1, like “what is the Maze,” “what happened to Elsie,” and “why do the welcome hosts insist on making guests pick a hat before they enter the park,” have been answered over the course of Season 2, each answered question has spawned several others. With the season finale of Westworld Season 2 approaching next Sunday, here are the questions the show will hopefully answer before the season’s end.  Read more…
