The defining meme of the 2018 World Cup has made its way to… Wimbledon. 

Swedish tennis player Jonas Bjorkman took part in his own impromptu #NeymarChallenge after getting hit with a ball during his match.

After first laughing about the hit, Bjorkman pauses, then clutches his stomach and drops to the ground for some dramatic rolling. His opponent Mansour Bahrami then hops over the net to join the fun. 

The Wimbledon crowd seemed delighted with the move, which got lots of laughs. The Neymar trolling happened earlier in the week at Wimbledon, but it was widely shared online over the weekend. Read more…

Jaime Guttenberg would have turned 15 on Friday had a gunman not killed her and 16 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February.

On her birthday, her father Fred Guttenberg and family took to Twitter to express their grief over never being able to watch her grow up. The family’s also using Twitter as a way to rally for gun safety laws.

In a Twitter DM exchange, Fred told Mashable he needed a place to express his voice and only joined Twitter after his daughter had passed.

“I was not even on Twitter until a few weeks after my daughter died,” said Fred. “I decided to join as I felt I needed to express my voice and Twitter became a way for me to speak for Jaime and for all of the victims of preventable gun violence.” Read more…

One of the British divers who helped rescue the Thai soccer team just confirmed what many suspected about Elon Musk’s somewhat bizarre attempt at helping: It was never going to work.

In an interview with CNN, British diver Vern Unsworth called Musk’s submarine “just a PR stunt” that “had absolutely no chance of working.”

Unsworth, who according to CNN played a “pivotal” role in the rescue, appeared exasperated when asked about Musk.

“He can stick his submarine where it hurts,” he said. “It just had absolutely no chance of working. He had no conception of what the cave passage was like. ” Read more…

This is One Good Thing, a weekly column where we tell you about the only nice thing that happened on the internet this week.

In these dark days, no one seems to like much of anything. I certainly don’t — the things that used to bring me joy, like naps and minor political victories, now fill me with existential dread. 

There are, however, two exceptions: 

1. The movies Paddington and Paddington 2, which star an anthropomorphized bear and are the most wholesome fun cinema has to offer.

Apple released new MacBook Pros the other day and it had appeared the company didn’t update the controversial keyboards for better reliability, but instead just made them quieter.

But that might not be the case after all. A new teardown from iFixit has revealed Apple’s added a thin rubber layer underneath each key that might help keep specks of dust from getting lodged inside and rendering the key unusable. 

As you can see in the photo below, each key on the new MacBook Pro keyboards comes with a thin silicone cover, which as iFixit says, “cocoons” the butterfly switches. Read more…

If you’ve listened to the chattering classes lately, you’ve learned that there are civil and uncivil ways to protest Donald Trump and his administration. Most of these pundits frown on nonviolent heckling, confrontation, and shaming of aides like Kellyanne Conway, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Stephen Miller. They argue that such behavior erodes civil norms, and they fret that the subsequent viral media attention will alienate moderates. 

While their opinions are worth hearing, there’s an unmistakable disconnect in being told by the country’s most influential writers that the powerless should meet their personal expectations for civil protest. Read more…

Summer is a great time to catch up on some stargazing. 

The nights are warm, and in most parts of the world, there’s usually something to see after the sun goes down. This weekend is no exception. 

On Sunday, Venus and the crescent moon will meet in the night sky not long after sunset, creating a beautiful sight for anyone with nice weather and a clear view. 

“You won’t want to miss this,” Diana Hannikainen, observing editor of Sky & Telescope magazine, said in a statement. “These are the two brightest objects in the nighttime sky.” Read more…

Guys, not everything on the internet is true.

With Special Counsel Robert Mueller at the helm, the Department of Justice indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers for hacking the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2016. In a 29 page document, Mueller’s team detailed how Russia’s GRU operatives used spear-phishing attacks through malware to infiltrate the Clinton campaign and gain access to internal communications. 

The document did not mention anything about shitposting or memes. Read more…
