Yeah, well 10 million other people are tired of the same things, and they’ve put their love lives in the hands of eharmony.

Someone is using a cancelled TV show’s verified Twitter account to promote a cryptocurrency scam

TwitterFacebook

An apparent hacker has been using a discontinued TV show’s verified Twitter account to promote a cryptocurrency scam.

A nefarious Twitter user appears to have gained access to the official @AlmostHumanFOX account, and has been tweeting from the account since the beginning of the month.

During this time, the account, which is followed by almost 19,000 Twitter users, has been promoting cryptocurrency “giveaways” and impersonating Justin Sun, the influential founder and CEO of Chinese blockchain company TRON.

As TheNextWeb points out, cryptocurrency “giveaway” scams have plagued Twitter in recent months. Even Elon Musk has complained about it. Basically, a scammer attempts to convince Twitter users through faked accounts to send them a small amount of cryptocurrency and in turn, the scammer promises to send them back crypto in tenfold. The scammer then takes the original crypto deposit and runs, never returning any of the currency.  Read more…

We are living in trying times. Not even our favorite childhood snacks are safe.

Pepperidge Farm announced a voluntary recall on Monday for four different flavors of Goldfish Crackers due to a fear of salmonella. Facebook quietly sets up ‘innovation hub’ in China (where it is still blocked)

TwitterFacebook

Facebook might not be digitally accessible in China, but that’s not stopping it from establishing a physical presence in the country.

The social media giant is setting up an “innovation hub” in Hangzhou — the country’s fourth largest city and Zhejiang province capital in East China — which will essentially function as an entrepreneur incubator,  supporting Chinese developers, innovators, and startups.

If the enterprise is successful, it could serve to get the website unblocked in the world’s most populated country.

Google, another banned site, launched a similar campaign in December with the opening of an artificial intelligence lab in China. It has since released a selection of AI-based apps for the country, including a file management app. However, as of press time, the search engine and its related sites remain blocked. Read more…

Uber hit 10 billion rides even after boycotts, tumultuous leadership

TwitterFacebook

Ten billion.

That’s a big number no matter how you break it down. For Uber, it’s now the number of trips that have been taken using the service since the app launched in 2010. And since 2014 that growing number also includes Uber Eat food deliveries.

The San Francisco-based company hit the 10 billion trip milestone last month when 173 trips took off in 21 countries and people ordered food in five countries — some of those orders included noodles, burgers, tacos, sushi, and a McDonald’s meal.

How you get to 10 billion.

How you get to 10 billion.

Of those simultaneous rides (all of which helped Uber hit the milestone), the shortest was an Uber Eats delivery of just over a half-mile. The longest was a 41-mile ride to the Denver airport. Within the group of rides that helped Uber reach 10 billion trips, five riders were on their first Uber trip ever. Took them a while. Read more…

Scientists won’t need to dig far to find signs of life on Jupiter’s moon Europa

TwitterFacebook

Europa, a small moon orbiting Jupiter, has long attracted fascination because of its potential to host alien life.

Hidden below the moon’s frozen surface is thought to be an ocean, which could hold signs of life. It turns out scientists won’t have to dig too far to find this potential evidence in a future mission, according to a study published in Nature.

Led by NASA scientist Tom Nordheim, the study assessed how harsh the radiation is on Europa’s surface.

The intense radiation, which comes from Jupiter, destroys or modifies material on the moon’s surface, making it hard for researchers to ascertain if it’s reflective of what can be found in the ocean below. Read more…

‘Vomit fraud’ is here to make your Uber ride even worse

TwitterFacebook

It looks like Uber rides just got a lot more expensive.

A new ride-hail scam is hitting the news and, if you’re not careful, it’ll hit your wallet, too. It’s called “vomit fraud,” and it’s as awful as it sounds.
