Shane Dawson looks into Jake Paul’s enemies in part 4 of his docu-series

TwitterFacebook

Is Jake Paul a scam?

In the fourth episode of his docu-series investigating the infamous vlogger, Shane Dawson lands an interview with Team 10’s former COO Nick Crompton.

“House” doesn’t even begin to describe Crompton’s massive residence — he lives in some sort of influencer collective in a modern mansion with a full gym, a theater, an elevator in the house, and floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views of Los Angeles. Crompton, who started a marketing agency in the United Kingdom, helped Paul build Team 10, his social media talent incubator, from the ground up.

GM and Honda could give us the self-driving car with a minibar we all deserve

TwitterFacebook

Cruise Automation wants to build the ultimate autonomous car.

The company, led by Kyle Vogt, the cofounder of the livestreaming platform Twitch, might be tootling its self-driving technology around San Francisco in camera-and-sensor-loaded Chevy Bolts at the moment … but after a $2.75 billion investment from Honda, look out for different cars in the near future.

Cruise was bought by General Motors back in 2016 and has built its self-driving tech into GM cars. But now Honda is entering the picture to re-envision what a Cruise autonomous car looks like.

Women’s March plans #CancelKavanaugh protest to sway senators before confirmation vote

TwitterFacebook

The internet’s mood can be described in two words, one hashtag: #CancelKavanaugh.

In a final effort to stop Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation, the Women’s March and other organizations have announced the Cancel Kavanaugh march, which will take place in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 4Nationwide demonstrations are also scheduled for the next few days.

Some reports say the FBI’s investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh could wrap up sooner than the end of the week, which means the Senate might vote on his nomination by Friday. But don’t panic because the fight is not over.  Read more…

Microsoft’s Surface Headphones are the anti-AirPods

TwitterFacebook

It’s kind of obvious if you think about it.

Apple as driven a lot of the conversation in the “smart” headphones space in the past couple of years thanks the AirPods. The untethered white earbuds are well on their way to becoming ubiquitous, leading everyone in the headphone space to go smaller, and “true” wireless to catch some of the ripples caused by Apple’s big splash.

But that leaves a gap — at least in attention — on the other side of the spectrum: large-size, over-the-ear headphones with more immersive sound.

Certainly, that category hasn’t exactly been dormant ever since Beats arrived on the scene almost a decade ago, but there is no go-to smart pair of cans that are anywhere near as iconic as AirPods. Read more…

‘Venom’ is hilarious, and I’m not entirely sure if it’s on purpose

TwitterFacebook

It’s Villain Week here at Mashable. In honor of the release of Venom, we’re celebrating all our favorite evildoers from film and TV all week long. Spooky, scary!

The first act of Venom suggests we’re in for one of the worst films of 2018. Not in a fun way, mind you, but in that dull, dispiriting way where the lack of effort starts to feel like disrespect.

Then Venom gets his man and a movie that initially seemed just-plain-bad becomes so-bad-it’s-good. Or maybe it’s just plain good. It’s been a full day since I’ve seen it, and honestly, I’m still not sure. Either way, I laughed a lot.

Trump shamelessly mocks Ford at rally as more Kavanaugh dirt surfaces

TwitterFacebook

If President Trump’s statement Tuesday morning that it’s a “very scary time for young men in America” had you screaming into the void, just wait until you watch him mock Christine Blasey Ford.

At an evening rally in Mississippi, Trump ridiculed Ford’s emotional Senate testimony against his Supreme Court pick Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who Ford says sexually assaulted her when they were in high school in the 1980s.

SEE ALSO: No matter what happens now, history’s judgment on Kavanaugh is already clear

While Ford has said she is certain it was Kavanaugh who trapped her on a bed, groped her, and covered her mouth so she couldn’t scream for help at a summer party, as his friend watched, she has also noted that other memories from the night are hazy. She doesn’t remember how she got home, for exampleIt’s common for sexual assault victims to remember the attack in great detail, but experience other memory gaps.   Read more…

It’s finally bloody happening: Australia scraps tampon tax

TwitterFacebook

Four months after Australia made a landmark decision to scrap its controversial tampon tax, it’s finally bloody happening.

Following years of public protest, resulting in a proposal by the Australian government, the country’s states and territories have unanimously agreed to scrap the tax on tampons and feminine hygiene products.

No date has been announced for the repeal of the tax, but according to the ABC, it will cost state governments $30 million a year. The Federal Government reportedly says this will be easily managed thanks to overperforming Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue. Read more…

The new Surface lineup shows Microsoft has mastered playing it safe

TwitterFacebook

Let me save you some time: Microsoft’s new Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2, and Surface Studio 2 don’t mess with a good thing. They’re all the same as before, more or less.

Microsoft clearly was reluctant to tinker with the line, design-wise, instead updating some key specs, putting in current silicon (Intel’s 8th Gen Core CPUs), and adding a new color to the Pro and Laptop: matte black, which Panos Panay, the company’s chief product officer, told me was more difficult to create than you’d think.

But the matte black finish for the main Surface PCs is probably the change this iteration of the line will be most known for. And it is gorgeous. Even under the intense studio lighting in the hands-on area after the unveiling event (which tends to bring out flaws), the machines looked great, and this was after being handled by one person after another. The shiny Microsoft logo in back attracted a few fingerprints, but that’s about it. Read more…

Facebook says there’s no evidence ‘so far’ that hackers accessed third-party apps

TwitterFacebook

Less than a week after revealing that 50 million Facebook users may have had their accounts compromised by hackers, the company is trying to allay concerns that the massive hack could get even worse.

The worry — which has been raised by a number of security professionals in recent days — is that hackers who were able to get into users’ Facebook accounts would also have been able to get into any account that uses Facebook Login.

SEE ALSO: Some basic steps to protect your Facebook account after hack hits 50 million users

Think about that for a second: Thousands of apps use Facebook Login, including many containing sensitive personal and financial information, like Tinder, Uber, Venmo, and, yes, Instagram. If hackers were indeed able to access those accounts, it would make an already massive hack exponentially worse. Read more…
