You can murder each member of your family (emoji) courtesy of Google

TwitterFacebook

If you hate emoji, there’s an interesting way to safely take out your rage on them, thanks to Google.

Twitter user Brooke Watson uncovered something very funny while working in Google Slides.

just learned with horror that deleting any of the “family” emojis in google slides does not remove the emoji, but rather kills off each individual family member one by one, starting with the children pic.twitter.com/0v2s8Bx91n

How to get the Popeyes chicken sandwich as soon as it’s back in stock

TwitterFacebook

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know there’s been so much hype over the Popeyes chicken sandwich that the restaurant actually sold out of the new menu item. Unfortunately, if you haven’t gotten to feast on the crispy delicacy, we don’t yet know when your chance will come again.

People on eBay have taken to listing the Popeyes sandwich for sale with starting bids at stupidly high prices, because who wouldn’t want to pay $2,000 for a sketchy secondhand fast food sandwich? While the food listings have since been taken down, you can still get some pretty bizarre memorabilia — $7.99 for a “sold out” sign anyone? Read more…

Watch ominous Hurricane Dorian churn over the ocean in footage from ISS

TwitterFacebook

Cameras affixed to the International Space Station filmed Hurricane Dorian brewing over the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday afternoon.

National Hurricane Center forecasters expect the cyclone to hit Florida as a powerful Category 4 storm around Labor Day, ultimately packing some 130 mph winds. Over the next few days the storm will increasingly strengthen as it travels over some exceptionally warm waters (warm oceans fuel hurricanes).

“No matter where you live along the U.S. southeast coast, and into the Gulf of Mexico, this is a storm to pay attention to,” Brian Tang, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Albany, told Mashable on Wednesday.  Read more…

These are the best VPNs for watching Netflix while abroad

TwitterFacebook

Imagine this: You’re traveling, and after a day of sightseeing you just want to relax in your hotel room and chill with Netflix. You fire it up and search frantically for your favorite show, but it just isn’t there. What gives?

The problem is this: Netflix shows different content for different geolocations, no matter where your account is based (though this is starting to change). So if you signed up in the U.S. but are traveling in Italy, you’ll likely see a very different (read: poorer) selection of content.

A simple way to beat this would be to use a VPN, but Netflix doesn’t like VPNs. The service actively thwarts any attempts to access it over a VPN, constantly banning new servers as they appear. The trick is to choose the right VPN, as some are more resilient to this than others.  Read more…

Self-driving cars must be experts on ridiculously specific road rules

TwitterFacebook

If you’re driving in San Francisco one week and then New York City the next, you’re probably not paying attention to the small differences in rules when it comes to sharing bikes lanes, passing school buses, and turning right on red.

If you’re in a self-driving car, those state-by-state distinctions aren’t just a nuisance (and potential ticket since ignorance isn’t a legal defense), but rules the self-driving companies don’t want to overlook, no matter how tedious. The software controlling the car needs to have those slight variations in traffic law programmed in, especially since companies don’t want negative media attention or a blemished record showing it broke the law.
