Planned Parenthood app to let users order birth control in every state

TwitterFacebook

The Trump administration is doing everything it can to undermine Planned Parenthood’s law-abiding, science-based reproductive health services. But Planned Parenthood has a powerful weapon in its arsenal: tech that increases access to care.

On Wednesday, Planned Parenthood announced that it had expanded its Planned Parenthood Direct app to functioning in 27 states, and that it will be available in all 50 states in 2020. The app lets users order birth control, get a prescription for Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) antibiotics, and schedule appointments at a Planned Parenthood clinic.

“As politicians across the country try to restrict or block access to critical reproductive and sexual health care, the Planned Parenthood Direct app is just one part of the work we do to ensure that more people can get the care they need, no matter where they are,” Alexis McGill Johnson, acting president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement. It’s finally happening. Super Nintendo games are coming to the Nintendo Switch on Thursday.

TwitterFacebook

Today marks a dark and dismal Rennsday for fans of actor, singer, Jeep partner, and Amazon Store owner Jeremy Renner.

On Wednesday, the actor known for playing Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films announced to the many superfans who downloaded his personal app — Jeremy Renner Official — that after recent criticism, and an unfortunate issue with trolls, he will be taking his app down. The app’s lack of verification system made it difficult to differentiate real users from trolls, especially those impersonating Renner, leading to a chaotic experience.

Renner broke the news to users of the free app (including myself) by sending a notification and then posting a longer (seemingly un-edited) explanation. Read more…

‘Overwatch’ is coming to Nintendo Switch with motion controls

TwitterFacebook

Overwatch, Blizzard’s colorful hero-shooter and top-tier esport, will soon have a new home on Nintendo Switch.

The trailer revealed during Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct broadcast highlighted a new feature that lets players make use of the console’s motion controls for things like aiming through a scope and steering vehicle-like abilities. No sign of Nintendo-themed skins, though.

Overwatch doesn’t have any kind of cross-save, so cosmetic unlocks like character skins and emotes that you’ve unlocked elsewhere will need to be gotten again. You’ll be able to get started on that grind when the game comes to Switch on Oct. 15. Read more…
