Rob Zombie’s ‘The Munsters’ trailer recreates the TV show’s iconic opening

A still from the Rob Zombie-directed movie adaptation of

If you’re a fan of Rob Zombie and you’ve never heard of The Munsters, the House of 1000 Corpses director’s next project may come as a surprise.

The Munsters is a 1960s sitcom that ran for 70 episodes across two seasons — TV math used to be very different — as it told light-hearted stories about the titular family’s struggles to navigate polite society. That’s gonna happen in a house where the mom is a vampire, the dad is a Frankenstein’s monster-inspired creature, the grandpa is an aging Count Dracula, and the son is a werewolf.

Just like The Addams Family, The Munsters carried an implicitly wholesome message that what’s in your heart matters more than how you look. It’s a definitive step away from Zombie’s typical fare of torture porn and graphic backwoods horror. But this teaser, which is mostly a recreation of the original TV show’s opening credits, complete with the same surf-rock theme, suggests the upcoming 2022 release will be a faithful (if modernized) take on the classic TV family.

Rob Zombie’s The Munsters stars Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa. It’s set for a streaming-only release later in 2022.

Twitter’s latest shopping feature could make it easier to catch a PlayStation 5 drop

three iphones displaying screenshots of the twitter product drops feature against a light blue background

Twitter is coming for an even bigger slice of the social commerce pie.

The company announced Wednesday that it’s rolling out a new shopping feature called Product Drops, which will let merchants tease and promote new launches right on the app. Shoppers will see a “Remind me” button at the bottom of Product Drop tweets that they can click to enable in-app alerts in their Notifications tab, which appear 15 minutes before and at the time of the drop. Tapping that notification when the drop goes live will then pull up a “Shop on website” button that redirects to the merchant’s website.

Want to learn more about an upcoming product before you commit to reminders? Clicking directly on a merchants’ Product Drop tweet will open a full-screen Product Details Page with a description of the item, a photo, pricing, and a clickable hashtag that’ll show you what other people on Twitter are saying about it.

Twitter will let you shop while watching a livestream

“We’re excited to give shoppers a way to do more than just talk; with Product Drops, we’re making it easier to go from conversation to product discovery to purchase,” Twitter staff product manager Justin Hoang explained in a blog post.

Product Drops is the latest expansion of Twitter’s shopping module — and maybe its most inevitable, given how essential the app has become for monitoring launches and restocks. It’s where savvy shoppers go to swap tips about scoring new Telfar bags and adidas x Ivy Park collections, and where eagle-eyed users build followings tracking PlayStation 5 and graphics card restocks (some more legit than others). Adding a native feature that taps into our FOMO and collective desire to be the first in line for something new seems like an obvious next step.

Twitter said Product Drops will only be shown to shoppers in the U.S. who use Twitter in English on iOS devices “for now,” adding that it’s currently testing the feature with “select managed partners” like Home Depot, Dior, and Fossil.

Wordle today: Here’s the answer, hints for June 8

Woman plays Wordle on her smartphone from the living room of her home.

Morning, Wordlers! It’s a new day, which means there’s a new puzzle for you to take on. Working it out by yourself is always fun, but if you get stuck — it happens! — here are some tips and hints to help you figure out the solution and keep that streak alive.

If you prefer to cut to the chase, skip to the very end of this article for the answer to the June 8 Wordle, #354. If you’re avoiding spoilers, keep reading for a few tips, subtle clues, and strategies to assist you.

A little background: Wordle was originally created by engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner, but soon spread internationally. Thousands of people around the globe now play this game each day, and fans have even created alternate Wordle versions inspired by the original. This includes battle royale format Squabble, music identification game Heardle, and variations like Dordle and Quordle that make you guess multiple words at once.

In fact, the word puzzle game has proved so popular that the New York Times eventually bought it, and TikTok creators livestream themselves playing.

Not the day you’re after? Here’s the Wordle answer for June 7.

What’s the best Wordle starting word?

We have some ideas to help you select the perfect opening. Such tips include choosing a word with at least two different vowels in it, plus a few common consonants such as S, T, R, or N.

Wordle archive: What happened?

While you could once play the entire archive of past puzzles, the archive was taken down at the request of the New York Times, according to the site.

Is Wordle getting harder?

If you’ve been finding Wordle too easy, there is a Hard Mode you can enable to give yourself more of a challenge. But unless you activate this mode, we can assure you that Wordle isn’t getting harder.

Why are there two different Wordle answers some days?

The whole point of Wordle is that everyone’s solving the same puzzle, with the same answer, no matter where you are in the world. However, occasionally the puzzle game will accept two different correct solutions on the same day, in apparent defiance of Wordle law. This aberration is due to changes the New York Times made after it acquired Wordle earlier this year.

Here’s a subtle hint for the June 8 Wordle answer:

One letter appears twice, but not consecutively.

Today’s Wordle is a 5-letter word that ends with…

The letter T!

Apple Daddy, a meme template, and editable messages: Everything Apple revealed at WWDC 2022

Image of Craig Federighi presenting at WWDC 2022

This year’s Apple WWDC didn’t give us the AR/VR announcement we’d hoped for, but it was still an experience.

Most of that was due to Craig Federighi’s tour-de-force emceeing and a screenshot that was begging to be meme-ed.

But there were also some exciting moments related to the purpose of the event, including some major software upgrades and an overall focus on privacy. Here’s a roundup of everything you need to know from WWDC 2022.

Shoutout to Apple Daddy

First and foremost, we have to pay tribute to the man who carried this event on his back, because most of it was actually pretty boring. Craig Federighi is Apple’s VP of software engineering who should quit his day job because that man has charisma with a capital “C.” Where’s his talk show?

Throughout the two-hour event, Federighi shocked and delighted a captivated audience with his commanding presence and committed wholeheartedly to several bits that you know Tim Cook never would’ve agreed to. Thanks to Federighi’s scene-stealing ways in previous Apple events, he’s already been described as a “daddy” and “a mood” by this very publication before. But this time, Federighi emceed most of the event, which really let him stretch his wings. As Mashable’s Alex Perry points out, “Craig Federighi was born for this.”

iOS 16

Now on to the actual announcements. Today’s event unveiled the latest iPhone operating system. One feature that already has the internet abuzz is the ability to edit or undo iMessages. If only this had been around for Succession‘s Roman Roy.

iOS 16 has major improvements to Maps, an “always-on” lock screen with widgets, new Wallet and Apple Pay features, real time iCloud photo-sharing, and updated parental controls. The new Safety Check tool allows users to cut off access to data and location-sharing and was built with victims of domestic abuse in mind.

Behold, the much-rumored lockscreen.

macOS Ventura

Macs also got a new operating system. The new macOS is named Ventura, a somewhat random California city to choose from — unless you’re a surfer or you work for Patagonia. Taking privacy, continuity, and productivity into account, features include a new password-less verification system called passkey, the ability to seamlessly transfer FaceTime across devices, shareable tab groups, and a new tool called Stage Manager which is not, as it sounds, a tool to help parents get their kids into show business.

Lots to look forward to with macOS Ventura this fall.

watchOS 9

All-around improvements to watchOS make the Apple Watch a major standout in the fitness tracking game. New features include improved motion sensors to identify and track different types of movements, detailed sleep tracking, and AFib and heart-rate monitoring.

There’s also a new feature for logging and scheduling medications, because if Apple already knows this much about your body, why not share a little more?

MacBook Air

Apple announced major upgrades to the MacBook Air today, starting with its performance. The new Macbook Air is the first Mac to have the M2 chip, which is Apple’s most powerful processor. The Air also has a redesigned body, larger screen, and weighs just 2.7 pounds.

Not to be outdone, the MacBook pro will also be upgraded with an M2 chip.

iPad OS 16

The new operating system for the iPad has all of the same new features as iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, as well as others that cement the iPad’s status as a leader in versatility. That includes an improved display to make it a better second screen, along with a new app called Freeform which is like a shareable blank canvas for real-time collaboration.

The best outfits from Apple WWDC 2022, ranked

Two photos of Craig Federighi: one of him in a white track suit, the other of him running in slo-mo in a blue button up shirt.

This was my first year covering Apple’s WWDC, and as I typed furiously to update our readers about the latest iPad OS updates it struck me that no one was talking about what really matters: Apple Daddy Craig Federighi the fashion. The style choices were classic Apple (streamlined and simple) with the exception of a single track suit which was so delightful that I now desperately wish to call it my own (Apple, I can and will send you my address). From hoodies to heels, here are some of the best outfits we saw on Apple employees at WWDC 2022.

Kevin Lynch stands in a yoga studio in front of an atrium with trees.

Namaste!

12. Kevin Lynch – VP, Technology

Kevin, or “zen dude” as I called him in my hurriedly-scribbled notes, is serving us upscale white-male-in-tech chic. A hoodie, tee, jeans, and sneakers, all completely inappropriate for the yoga studio he finds himself in. Zuck would be proud.

Johny Srouji stands in a gray windowless room with harsh overhead lighting and laptops scattered on tables behind him.

11. Johny Srouji – SVP, Hardware Technologies

We are ranking this for the color story alone. Are the styling and shapes exciting? No. Is that cobalt, almost peacock, blue an incredible choice with Srouji’s shock of white hair? Yes. Plus, it matches his… secret lab? Underground bunker? A beautiful composition.

We catch a glimpse of Ardill mid jump squat when SVP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi bursts in on one of his sessions. “Sorry Kyle, wrong door!” Federighi apologizes as he leaves. Sure it was, Craig.

Darin Adler in his Hawaiian shirt and khakis.

9. Darin Adler – VP, Internet Technologies

You can really go wrong with a Hawaiian shirt, but Adler nails it. His button up features fish and coral reef flora in a charming muted color palette. It’s fun, but not distracting.

We have to hand it to the women of WWDC who do everything the men do, but in heels. Here, Schubert is rocking what looks like a black rubber wedge with a white sole. Her army green bomber is a nice choice for a modern neutral.

Craig Bolton stands on a balcony in a space grey Nike tracksuit and shoes.

7. Craig Bolton – Senior Manager, Fitness Technology

Dressed in head-to-toe Nike, Bolton feels like the stylish track coach I never had. In some lights, his suit appears green but actually looks to be a classic Apple space grey.

Wang elevates her straightforward black blazer with a pop of yellow. I’ve been resisting comparing clothing color choices to Apple products, but this particular shade does remind me of the 2018 iPhone XR’s yellow.

Rubie Edmondson stands in a white tee, pleather black pants, a red Apple watch, and black and white high-top Air Jordans.

5. Rubie Edmondson – Sports Editorial Manager, Apple News

Rubie brought it today with her Air Jordans, an appropriate choice for her segment in which she introduced everything new in Sports at Apple. Upon closer inspection, her pants are made of either black leather or black pleather, a bold choice for a sunny day on a baking basketball court.

Katie Skinner stands in a belted denim jumpsuit and black strappy heels.

Yes, Katie! A denim jumpsuit and a strappy heel is exactly the kind of energy we need at WWDC. And so are the safety features Skinner introduced, which were designed to give people in abusive relationships more control over how and where their personal information is shared.

Tim Cook is wearing a black shirt, gray bomber, and grey glasses.

3. Tim Cook – CEO

Go off, monochrome king! I really wish he would have gone with a lighter, grey-toned shirt as a base, but I love the matching glasses and bomber. I honestly doubt Cook dressed himself today (the man makes $92 million a year, he should be delegating his shopping) so I’d really like to extend my congratulations to his stylist.

2. The Craig Federighi Off Duty Look

Macbook daddy Craig brought his best Clark Kent cosplay today with this outfit. He started the day walking around demo-ing the latest tech like a normie, but by the end was running in slo-mo to a pop rock song called “Thoughts About You” on his way to updating us about the changes coming to iPad OS 16.

Craig Federighi holds a basketball in his palm and wears a white tracksuit with multi-colored stripes down the side.

1. The Craig Federighi Tracksuit

I audibly gasped when Federighi appeared on screen in this stunning set, looking like the tribute-to-beat in the Apple Hunger Games. The white is a clean choice, and the stripes are giving us Fruit Stripe Gum and 70’s camper van realness. Federighi gets docked half a point for his sneakers which, while sharp, are more of a cream than the blinding white this outfit calls for, but he earns it back for his basketball prop work.

‘Raised by Wolves’ canceled after 2 seasons on HBO Max

Abubakar Salim as Father in HBO Max's Raised by Wolves

The door has been closed on Ridley Scott’s visionary sci-fi drama Raised by Wolves, which has officially been canceled by HBO Max after two seasons.

Created by Aaron Guzikowski and executive produced by Scott, the show centers on two androids tasked with raising children on a mysterious planet after Earth is torn apart by a great war. The show marked Scott’s TV directorial debut and had amassed near-universal acclaim from critics at the end of its run.

“While we are not proceeding with the third season of Raised by Wolves,” HBO Max said in a statement to Variety. “We are beyond grateful to the stellar cast and crew, our creators Aaron Guzikowski, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and the entire team at Scott Free Productions, for their beautiful artistry and unique ability to immerse fans into the world of Kepler-22b.”

In star Abubakar Salim’s lengthy Twitter thread, he said that while Season 3 is in doubt, the creative has “a fully fleshed out and planned storyline, a Goliath of a production team behind us, incredible reception from critics and reviewers alike, and most crucially, a community base that is so strong internationally, it can not be ignored.”

The show won’t be on HBO Max anymore, but the hope from Salim, Scott Free Productions, and the fans is that the show can be picked up elsewhere, according to Variety. You can read Salim’s full thread here:

This news comes at an interesting time for the streaming platform, with HBO’s parent company WarnerMedia in the midst of a transitional period after being sold by AT&T and combined with Discovery to form Warner Bros. Discovery.

With Discovery CEO David Zaslav at the helm, there have been several notable changes including the scrapping of CNN+ and a potential sale of the CW. Raised by Wolves seems to be another unfortunate loss due to the merger.

It’s not unprecedented for a cult-favorite sci-fi show to be given new life. Syfy canceled The Expanse after its third season but was brought back from the dead by Amazon Prime and was allowed to finish its story. Hell, Futurama got canceled twice and now it’s being revived again by Hulu.

As of right now, Raised by Wolves Season 2 finale might serve as the series finale, so we recommend giving it a watch expeditiously on HBO Max while it’s still on the platform. Don’t despair though, the doors might open again soon enough.

This company thinks taser drones will stop school shootings

Drone in the sky

From the company that brought you Taser stun guns, comes an AI weapon so dangerous it was rejected by the company’s own Artificial Intelligence ethics advisory board. But that didn’t stop the CEO from announcing the weapon as a response to the May 24 Uvalde, Texas elementary school shooting, like some misguided white horse hoping to tase our nation to safety.

According to the BBC, Axon (formerly known, terrifyingly, as Taser International), has announced plans to produce a lightweight taser that can be deployed on a drone or robot and operated remotely via “targeting algorithms.” The operator, a human (for now), will have “agreed to take on legal and moral responsibility for any action that takes place.”

This is how they hope to help stop school shootings.

SEE ALSO:

As we deal with the tragic mass shooting in Texas, here’s how to help.

Axon founder and CEO Rick Smith, himself a father of young twins, told the BBC that the recent elementary school shooting tragedy in Uvalde, Texas compelled him to share the project with the public because “politicians in the US have not been effective in dealing with this.”

His logic follows a precedent set by politicians themselves, especially Republicans who insist that their efforts to “increase mental health access and provide tools to crisis intervention officers” are an acceptable alternative for comprehensive gun control reform. It doesn’t help that, following the Uvalde shooting, Fox News gave a platform to guests who suggested dispersing bulletproof “ballistic blankets” to school children as an effective means of curbing gun violence.

Axon’s taser-drone project would apparently incorporate integrated camera networks that share real-time sensor access with local public safety agencies. The company says they’re not sure who would operate the drones: police departments, federal agencies, or Axon employees themselves.

A limited pilot project last year was panned by the company’s own Artificial Intelligence ethics advisory board, who voted against the idea of moving forward. “Reasonable minds can differ on the merits of police-controlled Taser-equipped drones – our own board disagreed internally – but we unanimously are concerned with the process Axon has employed regarding this idea of drones in school classrooms,” the board said.

But Smith doesn’t care. He told the BBC that, pending regulatory approvals, a “proof-of-concept” model could be ready within a year and field trials could be possible in two.

In a statement to the Associated Press, a New York University law professor who sits on the Axon AI Ethics Board called the idea “dangerous and fantastical.” “This particular idea is crackpot,” said Barry Friedman, “Drones can’t fly through closed doors. The physical properties of the universe still hold. So unless you have a drone in every single classroom in America, which seems insane, the idea just isn’t going to work.”

NASA taps SpaceX for five additional missions through 2030

NASA's Crew-4 mission astronauts prepare for liftoff to the International Space Station onboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Kennedy Space Center in April 2022. From left, NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Robert Hines; ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti; and NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren

NASA has announced the purchase of five additional crewed flights from SpaceX as part of their efforts to maintain uninterrupted operations at the International Space Station through 2030.

In a blog post, NASA described the update as “a sole source modification” to its Commercial Crew Transportation Capabilities (CCtCap) contract with SpaceX. SpaceX’s Crew-4 is currently docked at the ISS, and NASA also purchased three flights from SpaceX in February for Crew-7, Crew-8, and Crew-9. The addition of five more missions brings the total number of planned future flights from the company to eight (and, ostensibly, through Crew-14).

As of now, SpaceX is NASA’s only certified commercial crew transportation provider, “capable of providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective human space transportation services” that “ensure a continuous human presence aboard the microgravity laboratory.” Under the CCtCap contract, NASA has also been working with Boeing on the development of un-crewed flights and hinted that, after the success of Boeing’s recent Orbital Flight Test-2, they “hope to be able to certify [Boeing’s crewed] Starliner system in the near future.”

“Our goal has always been to have multiple providers for crewed transportation to the space station,” says Phil McAllister, director of commercial space at NASA. But the agency notes that the SpaceX crew transportation system, which will fly its sixth rotational mission for NASA in 2023, is “the only one currently certified to maintain crewed flight to the space station while helping to ensure redundant and backup capabilities through 2030.”

This purchase of five additional missions is an extension of a partnership between NASA and SpaceX that began in 2006 when NASA tapped the company to supply crew and cargo resupply demonstration contracts to the ISS. NASA notes that this latest contract modification “does not preclude NASA from seeking additional contract modifications in the future for additional transportation services as needed,” which means we may be learning about the purchase of more missions from SpaceX in the very near future.
