Microsoft Office is getter a simpler, cleaner look

Microsoft Office is getting a cleaner look.

The company announced Wednesday it will begin rolling out subtle changes to the Office.com and Office 365 app designs in order to make them look simpler and less cluttered.

The biggest change by far is coming to Microsoft Word, where the toolbar at the top of the screen (officially dubbed “the ribbon”) will be pared down to just one line. Fans of the classic design will be able to expand it back to the larger ribbon if they choose.

The changes fit in with Microsoft’s overarching Fluent Design language, which can be found across most parts of Windows 10. The updated ribbon will also include new animations, icons, and a few small color changes. Read more…

This community obsessed with hating Stuart Little is the best thing on Facebook

TwitterFacebook

Apparently there’s a whole community of people who really, really hate Stuart Little.

Stuart Little, the adorable mouse from the 1945 book and 1999 animated kids’ movie Stuart Little, is like any other anthropomorphic teenage rodent. He struggles to bond with his (human) brother, he enjoys boat races in New York City’s Central Park, and he ultimately brings his newly adopted family closer together.

What else could you expect from a heartwarming children’s story?

Not everyone falls for the Littles’ heartwarming story. A Facebook page called “I hate Stuart Little” was created in early June and it’s been rapidly gaining followers in the past week. As of Wednesday, the page has more than 45,000 likes.  Read more…

Man buys massive photo of a bridge that’s right outside his window

TwitterFacebook

Impulse purchases are almost never a good idea — especially when there are drinks involved.

Stuart Slicer splurged on a massive photo of Scotland’s Forth Bridge during a charity auction recently — which would have been a nice addition to his living room if it didn’t already have a direct view of the bridge.

His son, also named Stuart, posted a video of the print in the living room, which has the same exact view. In classic internet flavor, the account tweets from his dog’s perspective, Murphy Green. [Stuart Sr.] “forgot he could just open da blinds,” the dog tweeted. Read more…

PSA: Those Instagram Story emoji sliders will snitch on your ass

TwitterFacebook

Here’s a hot tip: If you vote in one of those emoji slider polls your friends may be posting to Instagram Stories — to gauge how cute a dog is, say — your friends will absolutely be notified of your answer.

There is no anonymity here.

Take, for example, a recent emoji slider on my own Instagram Story:

My friend Rebecca decided this dog was extremely — almost comically — low on the “yas???” scale.

Her defense? “I didn’t know you could see individual responses.”

The internet is cheering for this raccoon stuck on a ledge of a high rise building

TwitterFacebook

Few things bring the internet together like lost animals.

A raccoon captured all of our hearts on Tuesday when it started scaling a high rise office building in downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota. According to MPR News, the little guy got stranded on a building ledge on Monday, jumped to the roof of a two story office, and then started climbing up the walls of UBS tower.

Creepy optical illusion of a lost cat poster turns its head as you walk by

TwitterFacebook

A missing cat poster also became a creepy optical illusion.

As you walk past the poster, the cat’s face appears to follow. When the viewer veers left, the cat’s head turns to watch. When you lean right, so does the missing cat.

“Probably escaped from Azkaban or something,” the Redditor who posted the video said.

But it’s not a dark magic power — it’s actually a pretty common optical illusion used in haunted houses. If you put concave cones behind the eyes of the illusion, it’ll look like the eyes will follow the viewer. Since the cat’s head is perfectly placed over a concave surface, it appears to turn its whole head as the viewer passes by.  Read more…
