Jamie Lee Curtis wasn’t so down with FIJI Water girl’s photobombing efforts

TwitterFacebook

The FIJI Water girl meme from the 2019 Golden Globes proved great publicity for the model involved, Kelleth Cuthbert, and of course, the not so environmentally-friendly bottled water brand.

Not so keen on becoming part of an internet trend was Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis, who said she tried to avoid the promotional reps for FIJI Water and Moet Chandon who were cruising the award ceremony’s red carpet.

Lenovo’s Smart Alarm Clock asks you to wake up with Google

TwitterFacebook

Google and Lenovo have once again teamed up to bring Google Assistant deeper into your life.

This time, it’s a $79 Smart Alarm Clock, a small Google Assistant-enabled clock with a touchscreen display optimized for bedside tables. It’s launching this spring.

Though the form factor is similar to Lenovo’s larger Smart Display, Google is billing the alarm clock as the first of a new category of devices: smart clocks.  That may sound like splitting hairs — larger displays also show the time, after all — but there are some meaningful differences that make the device worth paying attention to.

A self-driving delivery car brought me a burger at CES

TwitterFacebook

Burgers and fries delivered by robo-car.

Stranger things have happened in Las Vegas. At the CES tech show this year, a car from AutoX showed off its autonomous driving skills by delivering burgers to the convention center.

The San Jose, California-based company started out delivering groceries with cars equipped with backseats modified to keep produce fresh and unharmed. Later, it partnered with select restaurants in Silicon Valley.

For CES this year, the delivery service found a nearby Applebee’s and sent out its test cars with a livefeed to show on the convention floor how the delivery process was going. After the car picked up the food about 2 miles away, some other reporters, VIPs, and I were able to chow down on slightly sweaty burgers and fries. (It was still delivery, after all — it can’t compete with food at a restaurant. It must have looked delicious though, because someone at the convention center stopped to ask me where I got it from.) How to unblock Netflix with a VPN

TwitterFacebook

If you’re trying to view the latest Netflix show while traveling overseas, or you want to watch a show that’s only available on Netflix in other countries, you’re in for a tough time. But with a VPN service and a bit of persistence, you should be able to see most of what you want to watch, no matter where you are.

Your Netflix Is Not My Netflix

It’s easy to assume that the video streaming services we use every day are the same everywhere on earth, but that’s simply not true. What’s available on streaming services, in particular, can be wildly different from country to country. That’s true not only of Netflix, but also of Amazon Video, Hulu, and Sling. Read more…

Elon Musk says he’s not joking about that hover car

TwitterFacebook

Gather round, for Elon Musk has made a new Twitter declaration.

The Tesla CEO informed Twitter followers on Wednesday that he is not joking about using rocket thrusters to get his upcoming Tesla Roadster to fly— or at least hover.

The new Roadster will actually do something like this https://t.co/fIsTAYa4x8

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 9, 2019

As Musk does, he responded on Twitter to a Tesla fan praising the advancements the car has made over the last six years. The fan (perhaps cheekily) included a gif of a flying DeLorean. Musk quote-retweeted the image, adding “The new Roadster will actually do something like this.” Read more…

Google will remind you of links you last visited next time you search

TwitterFacebook

Google is making it a lot easier to refer back to links you’ve clicked in previous searches.

The search engine announced on Wednesday that it’s rolling out a new activity card feature that provides users with links they’ve already visited when referring back to a search query.

Users logged into their Google accounts will be presented with a “Your related activity” prompt at the top of the search results page when they look up previously-searched queries. Clicking on that opens up an activity card with a list of links. Google is promoting the feature as an opportunity to pick up where you left off in search. Read more…

Marijuana tech is being shunned at CES 2019

TwitterFacebook

This post is part of our High-tech High series, which explores weed innovations, and our cultural relationship with cannabis, as legalization in several U.S. states, Canada, and Uruguay moves the market further out of the shadows.

It’s not easy being green — especially at CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics convention. Marijuana tech companies are grumbling about how difficult it is to participate in CES 2019 because organizers will not allow them to exhibit.

“We’re not allowed on the showroom floor, and it’s apparently because [organizers] say they haven’t created a category for cannabis vaporizers yet,” says Jeff Brown, vice president of public policy and communications at PAX Labs, an electronic vaporizer company.  Read more…

Not shocking study says senior citizens share more fake news

TwitterFacebook

The only people left on Facebook are the people who are worst at using it.

A new study from Princeton and New York University delves into how much people share fake news online, and who’s doing the sharing. It largely confirms what some previous studies have indicated, and what you might have already suspected: the people who share the most fake news are your grandparents.

More specifically, the largest determinant to sharing a fake news article was being over the age of 65 — regardless of political orientation.  Read more…

Admire, or be aghast, at this huge fatberg found in a British seaside town

TwitterFacebook

Here’s another reminder to stop flushing your wet wipes down the toilet.

Water authorities discovered a huge fatberg, measuring a dizzyingly large 64 metres (69.9 yards) long, lurking in a sewer beneath the English coastal town of Sidmouth.

SEE ALSO: The toilets are overflowing in national parks. But that’s not the worst problem.

It may not be as large as the 250 metre (273 yard) long one found in London in 2017, but boy, it’s certainly as gross looking for sure.

South West Water posted pics of the fatberg on Twitter.

Devon’s largest #fatberg has been discovered in Sidmouth. It’s a whopping 64 metres long, that’s over 6 double-decker buses back-to-back ???????#ThinkSink ? Don’t pour cooking oil, fat and grease down the sink#LoveYourLoo ? Only flush the #3Ps – pee, paper and poo pic.twitter.com/fTtd2vazLc
