Denver airport leans into conspiracy theories with elaborate gargoyle prank

TwitterFacebook

The Denver International Airport is elaborately trolling travelers once again — this time with an animated gargoyle statue.

Over the years, the airport, which many people know of because of all the wild conspiracy theories surrounding it, has done a truly impressive job of embracing the chaos.

For its latest prank, the airport installed a talking gargoyle statue right in the middle of “Illuminati Headquarters” to throw shade, tell jokes, and confuse the hell out of travelers.

According to the airport, the statue is there to “clear the air on all the conspiracies at DEN,” and travelers seem to love it. Read more…

You can buy used Cellebrite iPhone hacking tools for cheap on eBay

TwitterFacebook

Hacking a smartphone just got a whole lot cheaper.

A tool once favored by law enforcement for pulling data off locked phones is now available to the general public. We can’t imagine the Israel-based company behind the Cellebrite hacking device is all that pleased with its newly expanded customer base, but here we are. There’s not much it can do about it at the moment, as the sales are taking place on eBay — where a quick search shows numerous used models listed for prices as low as $50.

According to Forbes, which first reported the news, a brand new Cellebrite device will set law enforcement back around $6,000. Things are quite a bit cheaper on the online auction site, where one seller has what appear to be 10 used models for sale ranging in price between $50 to $70.  Read more…

TikTok gets fined $5.7 million for collecting children’s data, announces new kid-friendly version

TwitterFacebook

Success often comes at a price. For the company behind the video clip app TikTok, that price just so happens to be in the form of a record fine.

According to a Feb. 27 Federal Trade Commission statement, the app formerly known as Musical.ly illegally collected data from children under the age of 13, and as a result was hit with a $5.7 million civil penalty.

“The operators of Musical.ly, now known as TikTok, knew children were using the app but they still failed to seek parental consent before collecting names, email addresses, and other personal information from users under the age of 13,” FTC Chairman Joe Simons said in a statement.  Read more…

Dude gets caught eating pizza live on camera outside the Cohen hearing

TwitterFacebook

Have you spent all day watching the Cohen hearing, becoming more exhausted with each passing moment? Here is a man who also seems tired, except — unlike you, presumably — he got caught on a live CBSN camera eating pizza in a hallway.

Luckily for all of us, Mike Uhelein immortalized this extremely good moment by capturing and tweeting a video of his television screen. Observe Hallway Pizza Guy in the background: You can identify the exact moment he realizes he’s made the shot.

The pizza appears to be from pizza chain &pizza, which I had in an airport once. It was not my favorite pizza but it was pretty good. Read more…

Amazon patents delivery robot that docks at your house

TwitterFacebook

It’s not enough to have an Amazon Echo in every room, no — in addition to voice-controlled speakers to order Amazon products whenever you want, the e-retailer has plans for an in-home robot.

In a patent approved Tuesday, Amazon shows how getting all your packages could be simplified (and quicker) if a retrieval robot stayed at your house and met up with delivery trucks on the street to bring back your orders.

Yes, that means the robot would live in your house, ready to pick up packages once notified.

How the retrieval bot would work.

Remember Amazon Scout, the autonomous delivery bot? This is something like that, but the “autonomous ground vehicles,” or “AVGs,” won’t need to travel as much. Instead they’ll go from an apartment building out to the truck. No more individual delivery drop-offs to your front door powered by humans. Read more…

The Cintiq 22HD Interactive Pen display is one of the best illustration tools, and it’s on sale for $200 off

TwitterFacebook

Illustrators, graphic designers, and other artistic peeps know that there’s a difference between a tablet you can draw on and tablets designed for drawing.

The Wacom Cintiq 22HD Interactive Pen Display proves why that difference matters, and Dell wants you to experience the magic for yourself: The Cintiq 22HD is $200 off and under $1,500 through Feb. 28, and your purchase gets you a free $50 Dell e-gift card. (That can get you Wacom’s felt marker-ish Art Pen for $49.95.)

Before computers, an artist’s main goal was to translate an idea in their head into something tangible — whether that be on paper, a canvas, etc. Today’s devices and software have changed the way we make art, while amping up creative possibilities — but that “pen to paper” feel is still hella important. Michael Cohen’s ‘How many times’ exchange is now the most relatable meme

TwitterFacebook

Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, spent most of Wednesday delivering a pretty epic testimony before Congress, and the tired people of the internet are grabbing hold of any lighthearted moments of relief they can get.

At one point, Cohen was asked by Rep. Jackie Speier how many times Trump requested he threaten an individual or entity on his behalf, and what followed was a particularly memorable exchange.

When Speier pressed Cohen to answer with “100 times?” Cohen replied “more.” When Speier asked “200 times?” Cohen said “more.” And when she asked “500 times?”  He said “probably.” In that moment, a meme was born. Read more…
