Are we about to reach peak emoji?

It had to happen: Emojis have gone so mainstream that Hollywood can’t resist. When Shakespearean-trained actor Patrick Stewart is willing to voice an emoji in the shape of swirled poop in multimillion-dollar box office flick, things have gotten out of hand.

As Stewart adds his talent to “The Emoji Movie,” it’s clear that emoji use is on the rise across the board—there’s even an emoji Bible translation, for goodness’ sake. Corporations are also getting into the act, increasing their usage during marketing campaigns by more than 600 percent to 800 million emoji-based messages between 2015 and 2016.  Read more…

This self-driving valet service is one of the smartest ways to use driverless cars

Mercedez-Benz and Bosch want to take the hassle of finding a parking spot out of your life forever.

The two companies are teaming up to create the world’s first self-driving valet service at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. The service will eventually allow Mercedes-Benz drivers to hand the wheel over to their cars, which will take control and park themselves.

The project in its current form offers museum visitors a ride into the facility via a fleet of driverless cars, which are summoned via a smartphone app from a predetermined pickup area. Passengers are delivered at the museum doors, then the cars drive themselves to an assigned space in the multi-level garage and park.  Read more…
