Sarah Jessica Parker agrees ‘Sex and the City’ was ‘tone deaf’ on diversity

TwitterFacebook

Fashionably late as ever, Sarah Jessica Parker has come to a conclusion most of us came to years ago: Sex and the City didn’t age as gracefully as its cast.

The main actress behind the beloved, decades-old show even went as far to call it “tone deaf” when looking back on the show with the hindsight of today’s social politics.

In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Parker discussed the major issues with reviving Sex and the City for the modern zeitgeist.

“You couldn’t make it today because of the lack of diversity on screen,” Parker said during the Deauville Film Festival, referring to the all-white cast of main characters. “I personally think it would feel bizarre.” Read more…

Mark Zuckerberg will stop at nothing to win a game of Scrabble

TwitterFacebook

You can learn a lot about a person from the way they play Scrabble. Do they show off their SAT vocabulary or only know dirty words? Are they rule-sergeants or are they so competitive that they will stop at nothing to beat someone who is half their age?

If you’re Mark Zuckerberg, you’re in the latter category. It seems his Scrabble strategy involves aggressive rule bending in order to win a game against a high school-age opponent.

This little Zuckerian anecdote comes to us from an extensive New Yorker profile about the Facebook CEO’s approach toward the myriad problems currently facing the social network, and whether he’s equipped to solve them. Read more…

I turned off push notifications, and my introverted self has never felt better

TwitterFacebook

This is You Won’t Regret It, a new weekly column featuring recommendations, tips, and unsolicited advice from the Mashable culture team.

I’ll admit it: I am that Trash Person who takes approximately three business days to text back.

At the time of writing this, I have eight unread texts, two untouched Facebook group chats with countless conversation threads that I don’t have the energy to follow, and my personal Hydra: three inboxes with 2,312 unopened emails. (Again, I know that I am The Worst.)

And that doesn’t even account for the unseen messages on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, because I turned off push notifications for all of the social media apps on my phone.  Read more…

Watch the devil take over in ominous new Season 3 teaser for ‘Daredevil’

TwitterFacebook

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been two long years since Daredevil Season 2 premiered. And by the looks of the teaser for Season 3, he’s coming back with a vengeance.

Sure, we got glimpses of the masked hero in The Defenders, Jessica Jones, and even Iron Fist. But we’re ready for Matt Murdoch’s tortured Catholic soul to take center stage again.

Returning to the confessional where he’s often sorted out his conflicted feelings in the series, though, it looks like Murdoch won’t be returning unscathed. He’s finally being honest with himself about which life he’d choose if he had to decide between being a blind lawyer, or the horned vigilante. Read more…

Guy emails 246 Nicoles in search of a girl he met at a bar, and now they’re all friends

TwitterFacebook

Apparently Tinder is just too basic for some people.

Carlos Zetina only knew a handful of things about the girl he met at a campus bar: her name was Nicole, she was from Holland, she attended the University of Calgary, and she thought Nietzche was depressing.

When the number she gave him ended up being wrong, he decided to pursue the missed connection in the most extra way: He combed through the University of Calgary’s entire email list, and messaged every Nicole he could find in one mass email:

Zetina emailed 246 Nicoles in total, including students, staff, and faculty members. Even associate deans named Nicole were part of his quest to find his dream Nicole. He was thorough, too — according to BuzzFeed, Zetina added variations like Nicolette and Nickie in his search.  Read more…

“I’m a very sensitive person… but this Mac Miller shit got me fucked up,” Glover said on stage, as per Rolling Stone

“He was the sweetest guy, he was so nice. And we were both, you know, kind of internet music kids, because, you know, we came up on the internet, and a lot of critics were like, ‘This corny-ass white dude,’ just like they were like, ‘This corny-ass black dude,’ and we used to talk. Of course Elon Musk’s very serious Boring Company treats machines like video games

TwitterFacebook

Out of all of Elon Musk’s ventures, the Boring Company is undoubtedly the most WTF.

For instance, the tunneling company may be best known for its Not-a-Flamethrower, the barely legal $600 flame-spewing gadget with Dr. Seuss-inspired terms and conditions.

Even Musk himself recently admitted that “the flamethrower was a terrible idea,” and that “I’m not saying the Boring Company will succeed.”

So it shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise that the company doesn’t take other aspects of its business too seriously either. Like its machines, some of which are apparently controlled with actual Xbox controllers.  Read more…

The Air Force is trying to figure out a response to Elon Musk’s pot smoking

TwitterFacebook

It turns out the Air Force isn’t quite sure what to make of Elon Musk’s pot smoking either.

No, the military hasn’t launched a formal investigation into the SpaceX CEO. But it is trying to figure out how to respond to Musk’s latest antics.

After setting the internet ablaze following an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, which featured Musk taking a single hit off a spliff, questions have been swirling about whether or not said hit would have any negative consequences for the man or his businesses.

These questions kicked into high gear Friday, when a Fox Business reporter tweeted that the Air Force was looking into Musk’s actions, potentially putting his government security clearance at risk.  The Air Force later clarified that while it’s evaluating the situation, there is not, in fact, an investigation.
