TwitterFacebook

These sex toy ads were banned from the subway. Now the company is suing.

TwitterFacebook

The pearl-clutchers at the MTA have a big, sex toy-shaped problem on their hands.

Dame, which makes precisely engineered sex toys for women, is suing New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) for rejecting its advertising campaign.

“The vague and sexist reasons behind the MTA’s refusal to show our ads are not only barring many businesses like ours from growing their companies, but their censorship is a violation of First Amendment rights,” Alexandra Fine, CEO and co-founder of Dame Products, told Mashable.

The lawsuit claims that while the “MTA has previously welcomed advertisements that celebrate human sexuality,” its rejection of Dame’s female pleasure-centric campaign is a violation of the company’s right to free speech, due process, and equal protection under the law. Read more…

This community collects extremely charming vintage recipes

TwitterFacebook

There are few things more nostalgic — and often, wildly grotesque — than combing through dated recipes.

Maybe the thought of Milk Chicken, a vintage recipe involving roasted chicken, banana, milk, and eggs, gives you joy, not nausea. Perhaps you long for the days when your grandmother made Lime Cheese Salad, a delightful combination of Jell-O, cottage cheese, and seafood.

Either way, your most debased and nostalgic food favorites now have a home on r/Old_Recipes, a new and popular subreddit dedicated to people’s favorite vintage recipes.

Oh happy day, Lizzo channels ‘Sister Act 2’ performing at MTV Awards

TwitterFacebook

Oh happy day, indeed.

Singer and rapper Lizzo channelled the classic ’90s Whoopi Goldberg sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, for her performance of “Juice” at the 2019 MTV Movie and TV Awards on Monday.

To begin with, Lizzo took the stage in the same kind of choir robes as Lauryn Hill’s character, Rita Watson, during the film’s final performance of “The Hymn of Joy” at the All-State Choir Championship.

She then included an iconic offstage moment straight from the film. “Your teacher says take off your robes,” a stage manager tells the students waiting in the wings in the movie, as did one to Lizzo’s backup singers at the MTV Awards. Then, it was time to party, with dance moves and scales straight out of the film. Read more…

Hell, Michigan is now Gay Hell, Michigan thanks to YouTuber Elijah Daniel

TwitterFacebook

Many YouTubers aspire to buy mansions. Elijah Daniel raised the bar and runs Hell.

Kind of.

The vlogger and comedian known for his crude humor and music tweeted about buying the town of Hell, Michigan on Monday. Although he doesn’t technically own it outright, he does have the proverbial keys to the town and can do what he wants for now. He noted that renaming the town to Gay Hell was a tongue-in-cheek response to the Trump administration’s ban on U.S. embassies flying rainbow flags in honor of Pride month.

“Fuck the Calabasas mansions, I just bought a town,” Daniel said during a phone interview. Read more…
