Unsurprisingly, Netflix viewership is way down because of the Super Bowl

TwitterFacebook

Netflix is famously coy about releasing viewership stats.

But in light of the Super Bowl, the streaming service subtly dropped on Twitter that numbers are down because everyone’s watching the big game.

What’s surprising though, is that numbers in the U.S. are only down 32 percent compared to a normal Sunday. And look, maybe it’s because of how dull the big game is this year.

so apparently this Super Bowl thing is kind of a big deal … looks like Netflix viewing in the US is down about 32% compared to a normal Sunday

SpongeBob fans are not happy with that goober of a Super Bowl tribute

TwitterFacebook

The rumored halftime tribute to SpongeBob SquarePants actually happened, but now some people are disappointed by how it turned out.

Maroon 5’s painful Super Bowl halftime show performance was mercifully interrupted by Squidward, who conducted a marching band of Bikini Bottom residents. As the band built up into a crescendo, Travis Scott inexplicably flew into the stadium via meteorite.

Yeah, it makes absolutely no sense.

And after the major online push to play “Sweet Victory” in honor of SpongeBob SquarePants’ late creator Stephen Hillenburg, fans were angry that the tribute barely lasted more than a few seconds. Read more…

Jack Dorsey floats how editable tweets might work

TwitterFacebook

It’s a question that keeps popping up for Jack Dorsey.

In an interview with Joe Rogan over the weekend, the Twitter CEO floated how editable tweets, an oft-requested feature, would work on the platform.

“You could build it as such so maybe we introduce a 5-second to 30-second delay in the sending,” Dorsey told the program.

“And within that window, you can edit. The issue with going longer than that is it takes that real-time nature of the conversational flow out of it.”

Dorsey also revealed that Twitter was looking into making sure users could see the original tweet. Read more…

The best thing about the halftime show was everyone making fun of Maroon 5

TwitterFacebook

There is no band more consistently, doggedly embarrassing in America than Maroon 5.

Their halftime performance at Super Bowl LIII was no exception. Viewers were subjected to Adam Levine’s exposed, erect nipples and guitar solos fit for a middle school battle of the bands.

Nobody captured this cultural collapse better than Twitter.

I’m sorry, but you just can’t have Adam Levine hopping to a hip-hop beat like he’s at a ska show — then crooning with an *actually* talented gospel choir  — and not expect people to mock it. It’s part of our cultural algorithm. Read more…

Adam Levine showed his nipples during the Super Bowl halftime show and didn’t get in trouble at all

TwitterFacebook

What is it with nipples at the Super Bowl?

During Sunday’s halftime show, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine decided to take his shirt off for the crowd, because something was necessary to liven up the musical equivalent of a jar of mayonnaise.

The problem? The Super Bowl halftime show has a storied history — with all the pearl clutching over Janet Jackson’s nipple more than a decade ago. Justin Timberlake, who exposed Janet’s nipple in 2004, returned to the Super Bowl last year and fans were quick to slam him. And now it’s Levine’s turn to feel the heat.

Oh but we can see Adam Levine’s nipples @FCC

SpongeBob SquarePants fans launched a Change.org petition in November 2018 after the death of Stephen Hillenburg, who created the beloved series, calling for artists to perform “Sweet Victory” in his honor. The song is from a 2001 episode where the sea creatures performed at the “Bubble Bowl,” and the petition got more than 1.2 million signatures.  Read more…

Marshawn Lynch’s big mood stole the Super Bowl pregame show

TwitterFacebook

Super Bowl LII isn’t even over and we already have an MVP.

Ahead of the kickoff on Sunday night, Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch stole the show during the presentation of the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

As the camera panned across the players gathered on the field for the presentation, it caught Lynch — decked out in a branded sweatsuit from his apparel line — sitting down, while everyone else around him was standing
