YouTuber recreated Apple’s Mac Pro case to see if it could grate cheese

TwitterFacebook

In the culinary world, apples and cheese make a delightful pairing. In the tech world? Things are a bit more complex.

Many know the popular tech company, Apple, unveiled its new Mac Pro at its developer conference WWDC earlier this month. You’ll likely remember that when people saw the device they compared its aesthetic to that of a cheese grater.

The internet dragged Apple’s design like one might drag a fresh block of sharp cheddar down a handheld metal grate, and wondered if anyone ever dared to use the $5,999 innovation to literally grate cheese, would it work.

Sadly, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to answer that pressing question, as the new Mac Pro hasn’t been released yet, but YouTuber
Winston Moy did his best to recreate the case and carry out his own experiment. Read more…

E-scooters get thumbs-up to scoot on most NYC streets

TwitterFacebook

Love ’em or hate ’em, electric scooters are now allowed in New York — which means the two-wheeled vehicles could soon be scooting through New York City.

The New York State Senate passed a bill Wednesday to pull back restrictions for electric-assisted bicycles and e-scooters. Scooter-share companies like Bird, Lime, Spin, Uber, Lyft, and many others haven’t been able to operate in New York City and other parts of the state, while the scooter craze has run rampant for the past year (and longer) throughout the country and abroad.

#NYSenate Bill S5294A, sponsored by Senator @jessicaramos, passed 56-5 (unofficial). Relates to bicycles with electronic assist and electric scooters: https://t.co/krspM5QVjv

British channel ITV now requires women writers for all comedy programs

TwitterFacebook

One British TV channel has taken a step towards eliminating the standing trend of all-male comedy writers’ rooms by outright requiring women writers on all submitted projects.

ITV Comedy Controller Saskia Schuster announced the policy change at the Channel 4 Diverse Festival, an event dedicated to improving representation in TV and film, as an extension of her recently founded Comedy 50:50 initiative.

Schuster created Comedy 50:50 in response to the lack of women writers on the shows she’s previously produced for ITV and in the industry overall. The tenets of her initiative, which extend to ITV’s new contract process, require creators to have or prove an earnest effort towards creating a 50/50 gender balance in their writers’ rooms. In addition to that contractual requirement, Comedy 50:50 hosts a database of women writers who have at least one writing credit or an agent, for producers to peruse and discover underrepresented talent.  Read more…
