Yoko Ono will receive songwriting credit on John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’

Oh Yoko, it’s about time. 

Variety reports that Lennon’s widow and frequent collaborator, Yoko Ono, will receive a songwriting credit for the song that defines his legacy, “Imagine.”

National Music Publishers Association CEO David Israelite made the announcement at the annual NMPA meeting in New York City. Israelite showed a video from 1980 of John Lennon saying that Ono deserved songwriting credit. 

The timing is significant. “Imagine” received the Centennial Song Award from the NMPA on Wednesday night, which Ono and the couple’s son, Sean Lennon, accepted on Lennon’s behalf.  Read more…
