The UK just hit a major renewable energy milestone

For the first time ever, renewables generated more energy than gas and coal combined in the UK.

That’s according to a tweet from National Grid’s official account, which tracks the UK’s power supply. It was thrown in among endless updates, but it shouldn’t be overlooked.

For the first time ever this lunchtime wind, nuclear and solar were all generating more than both gas and coal combined.

The power record was quickly broken yet again later that day with 50.7 percent of demand coming from wind, solar, biomass, and hydro energy (that’s 18.7 gigawatts in total renewables). Read more…
