I'm in love with Samsung's purple Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung is set to unveil its new foldable phone at its Galaxy Unpacked event on Feb. 11, which is two weeks away. But, thanks to official renders and specs leaked by WinFuture, we get to check out the Galaxy Z Flip in all of its glory ahead of time.

Seeing as how rumors have been circulating for a little bit now, the design comes as no surprise. But to see that it’s going to be offered in a stunning purple color has turned me into a live version of the heart eye emoji.

As my co-worker said, “We don’t have enough purple tech.” I very much agree.

Super shiny!!

Finally, scooters that shame you for riding on the sidewalk

Finally, scooters that shame you for riding on the sidewalk

Even if it doesn’t feel safe to ride electric scooters in the street, that doesn’t mean you can terrorize pedestrians at 12 mph.

The rise of e-scooter-sharing inevitably means people breaking the rules. It happens. But now, e-scooter giant Lime is cracking down on riders’ potential flagrant disregard for staying off the sidewalks while renting its battery-powered two-wheelers.

The small but zippy electric vehicles are supposed to be in the bike lane alongside cars. Lime’s other rules and regulations include wearing a helmet, no double-riding, and no drinking and riding. But for now, Lime is focused on working to eliminate sidewalk-riding. It’s nearly impossible to force people to comply. That’s why scooter companies like Bird and VeoRide are trying to incentivize riders and use AI detection to get riders to stick to the rules. Read more…

GM’s newest Super Cruise feature almost makes it a true Tesla Autopilot rival

GM's newest Super Cruise feature almost makes it a true Tesla Autopilot rival

General Motors is riding close behind Tesla with its semi-autonomous system.

Super Cruise, as GM’s driver assistance system is called, lets the car do the driving in certain situations, like riding on the highway. It’s GM’s answer to Tesla’s own semi-autonomous Autopilot system with one crucial difference: You can take your hands off the wheel. And now, with its latest feature update, it can even handle lane changing, putting it on par with Autopilot.

The new Enhanced Super Cruise will allow automatic lane changes in the 2021 CT4 and CT5 Cadillac sedans and the 2021 Escalade, all coming out later this year. Super Cruise first came out in 2017. Read more…

Facebook says oversight board is coming soon

Facebook says oversight board is coming soon

Facebook’s long-talked about oversight board is starting to become a reality.

On Tuesday, Facebook announced that its oversight board will be ready to start hearing cases this summer. The social media company also shared a set of recommended bylaws for the board and said in its statement that it would announce board members and trustees “in the coming months.”

According to Facebook, cases brought to the board “will initially only involve individual pieces of content that we have taken down.” Once the company removes content from Facebook or Instagram and runs through all appeals with the company, a user will have 15 days to appeal to the board. The company can refer “urgent cases” directly to the board itself as well. Read more…

Mike Bloomberg met a dog and decided to shake its mouth

Listen, there’s technically no wrong way to pet a dog but the way presidential candidate and ultra-billionaire Mike Bloomberg pet a dog on Monday was downright bonkers.

Bloomberg passed through Burlington, Vermont this week, where he was fortunate enough to meet a dog that seemed quite Good. CBS News reporter Nicole Sganga posted a video of the candidate’s canine encounter and well, you’ve just got to see it.

5 things you didn’t know about the iPad on its 10th anniversary

5 things you didn't know about the iPad on its 10th anniversary

On January 27, 2010, the late Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, presented a device to the world that looked a lot like a giant iPhone that didn’t make calls. A few months later, the first iPad was made available to the public, more or less kicking off a tablet revolution, the effects of which can still be felt today.

By now, every big name in tech has some me-too product resembling the iPad in its portfolio. Some of which are budget-friendly and accessible, while others are more experimental and eye-catching. Regardless, it’s impossible to deny the impact that decade-old Apple announcement had on the tech landscape. Read more…

Celebrating Marty the grocery store robot’s birthday is super depressing

Celebrating Marty the grocery store robot's birthday is super depressing

Marty the grocery store robot has officially wreaked havoc on Stop & Shop employees for one full year. A real milestone.

If you’re reading this article, you’re likely familiar with Marty, the giant gray, aisle-patrolling, essentially pointless robot that Stop & Shop introduced to more than 300 stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Jersey in 2019.

Marty bots roam the stores, but don’t clean up spills. Instead, when the autonomous robots detect a spill, piece of debris, or any sort of potential hazard on the floor, they simply report it to a store employee who then has to clean it up by hand. Read more…
