Airbus is testing a new aircraft that requires up to 20 percent less fuel

Flying is bad for the environment and its impact is expected to get even worse in the coming years. It’s vital for aircraft manufacturers to come up with new solutions that reduce aviation’s carbon footprint.

One such project is Airbus’ MAVERIC (Model Aircraft for Validation and Experimentation of Robust Innovative Controls), a blended wing body aircraft which the company claims can reduce fuel consumption by up to 20 percent. Read more…

Creator of TikTok ‘Renegade’ dance steals the show at NBA All-Star Game

Creator of TikTok 'Renegade' dance steals the show at NBA All-Star Game

The NBA All-Star Game on Sunday was full of celebrity appearances, including TikTok star Jalaiah Harmon.

Harmon, 14, is the teen responsible for the “Renegade” dance craze that’s sweeping TikTok. The New York Times even did a feature on the teen.

During a break in Sunday night’s game, Harmon got to show the world (and confuse everyone over the age of 30) her famous dance. She was joined at one point by Chicago Bulls mascot Benny The Bull and the Luvabulls, the Bulls’ dance team.

But the highlight of the clip, besides Harmon’s moves, has to be NBA superstar and All-Star team captain Giannis Antetokounmpo lingering on the left side of the video, behind Harmon, dancing along. Read more…

Elon Musk says Tesla’s Solar Roof is going global later this year

Elon Musk says Tesla's Solar Roof is going global later this year

Tesla’s Solar Roof has had a rough start. Originally introduced in Oct. 2016, the Solar Roof was re-worked several times, and has only gone into wider distribution this year, partially due to Tesla’s well-documented struggles to produce its Model 3 at volume.

But it now seems Tesla is serious about making its Solar Roof ubiquitous. On Sunday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed on Twitter that the company plans to offer the roof internationally “later this year.”

Looking forward to international expansion later this year 😀

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 16, 2020

Musk would not name individual countries in which the roof would be offered, but he did say that the roof will initially be produced in Tesla’s Gigafactory in New York, with production going international with time.  Read more…

These custom masks may not beat Face ID, but they could do some good

These custom masks may not beat Face ID, but they could do some good

It might have started as a novelty idea, but a Twitter pitch for “Face ID compatible respirator masks” went to some unexpectedly cool places.

It started on Saturday when Danielle Baskin — “a product designer, situation designer, visual artist, and the CEO of Dialup.com,” according to her website — floated the idea of printing faces onto respirator masks. You know, like the kind you’d use to ward off illness, prevent people nearby from catching whatever you’ve got, or protect from air pollution.

Made this service that prints your face on an N95 mask, so you can protect people from viral epidemics while still being able to unlock your phone.

Weed companies find hilarious ad regulations loophole in adopting highways

Weed companies find hilarious ad regulations loophole in adopting highways

Colorado drivers are currently commuting down what must be some of the most lit and spotless highways in the country. And it’s all thanks to some clever cannabis companies.

The cannabis industry has been in a perpetual arms race against the strict and ever-evolving regulations that govern their substance, which is still illegal in the United States at the federal level. But the 51 Colorado weed businesses reportedly using the Adopt-a-Highway program to circumvent the state’s strict advertising rules surely take the cake (or flowers).

On Friday, Feb. 14, the Denver Post reported that the cannabis industry had become an unexpected top patron of the state highway infrastructure, “accounting for cleanup on two-thirds of the roads maintained by Clean Colorado,” an official program from the Department of Transportation. Read more…

Tesla’s leaked employee handbook is exactly as ridiculous as Elon Musk’s Twitter

Tesla's leaked employee handbook is exactly as ridiculous as Elon Musk's Twitter

An alleged copy of Tesla’s self-titled “Anti-Handbook Handbook” for new employees leaked and, like Elon Musk himself, it’s absolutely desperate to sound cooler than it actually is.

Reading like the worst – or best? – of Musk’s Twitter feed, the four-page document (published by Business Insider on Thursday) is ostensibly standard workplace culture policies, only those policies are described in overly familiar, self-aggrandizing, and unnecessarily aggro tones.

Tesla blows haha

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 24, 2019

“We’re Tesla. We’re changing the world. We’re willing to rethink everything,” it starts. “We’re different and we like it that way. Being different allows us to do what no one else is doing; to do what others tell us is impossible.” Read more…

This pigeon snuggling a chihuahua puppy is post-Valentine's friend goals

Herman the pigeon welcomed a canine newcomer at the animal sanctuary he calls home with more affection than many millennials get in a year, and the adorable pictures are proof that friendship has no species.

Herman and his chihuahua friend Lundy live at The Mia Foundation, an animal rescue in Rochester, New York that specializes in pets born with birth defects.

Lundy came to The Mia Foundation in mid-January and can’t use his back legs due to potential hydrocephalus. Herman has been at the foundation since Nov. 2018, and has been their resident bird ambassador ever since.
