Bonkers ‘Jackass Forever’ trailer proves, yes, some people never learn

A bonkers first trailer for the prank-tastic Jackass Forever delivers killer stunts, major nostalgia, and…uh, holy shit, is that a bear?!

Directed once again by Jeff Tremaine, the fourth film in the Jackass franchise reunites jokesters Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Jason “Wee Man” Acuña, Ehren McGhehey, Preston Lacy, and their fire extinguisher-wielding crew for another round of high-stakes stunting. It’s the first film from the iconic comedy team since Bad Grandpa in 2014, and what death-defying nonsense they’ve pulled off for it is still under wraps

From the trailer though, we know we’re getting bulls, motorcycles, explosives, tarantulas, snakes, and, yes, some deeply worrying shenanigans with a bear. The movie’s tagline is right: Some people never learn, and the comedy-loving world is better for it.

Jackass Forever swan dives into theaters Oct. 22.

Sometimes a basic, cheap laptop is all you need — these 8 are your best options

BEST DEALS ON CHEAP LAPTOPS:

  • HP Chromebook 14-inch HD Laptop — $216.99

  • Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 — $1,029.99

  • ASUS Chromebook Flip — $427

It’s really (really) hard to make it in today’s world without a computer of some kind. Nobody wants to do school or work projects on a phone. You’ve gotta get yourself a real laptop.

Unfortunately, laptops cost money. If you’re not careful, you can end up spending well over $1,000 for a machine with impressive specs. But we’re not here to talk about those. There’s a whole world of laptops that cost $600 or less — many of them are perfect companions for students returning to school or folks who just need something that’s a little more capable than an iPhone.

What are the most important things to look for in a laptop?

Let’s set expectations right away: The laptops on this list will not come with the latest and greatest processors, graphics cards, or displays. You have to spend more than $1,000 for those things. For students or workers who just want something to get them through the day, things like ports and memory are more important.

If you want to record audio with a microphone or use a mouse, you’ll need USB ports. Photographers or videographers should emphasize microSD card readers. An HDMI port goes a long way if you like streaming on a TV. Above all else, you want as much RAM and storage as you can get. More RAM means the computer can handle more applications at once and more storage means less hard drive management.

What am I losing by getting a cheap laptop?

Laptops in the $600-or-below price range are not going to be good for PC gaming. You won’t get a 4K resolution display or a refresh rate higher than 60Hz. RAM is going to max out around 8GB, which isn’t bad but also isn’t spectacular. You’re also unlikely to get more than 500GB of storage space.

In this price range, laptops are going to be best for web browsing, word processing, Zoom calls, and streaming. As long as you don’t expect more than that, you’ll be fine.

But are cheap laptops worth it?

You know the old saying: You get what you pay for. But thanks to the technology boom of the last few decades, a cheap laptop can actually take you pretty far and won’t break down immediately. It’s all about knowing which one to select.

Rather than just making a few purchase suggestions and sending you on your way, we’re going to equip you with some knowledge that’ll help you be a more informed laptop shopper. You know all that computer jargon of processor-this and gigahertz-that — we’ll explain it all in terms that anyone can understand.

What is the best cheap laptop?

We’re glad you asked. In fact, we’ll do you one better: We’ll give you 8 stellar selections below.

How to connect your AirPods to a computer

Connecting your AirPods to a computer should be easy enough.

So, you can’t quite figure out how to connect your AirPods to your computer. Stuff happens! It’s OK, because the problem is easy enough to solve.

We’ve got a quick rundown for you, but there’s also a helpful page from Apple itself that can point you in the right direction for any model computer.

Now, first things first, this process might look different depending on what type of computer you use. Let’s go with a Mac first.

First you want to make sure that your Mac’s operating system is up to date. To do that, click on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner of your desktop screen and click on “About this Mac.” A screen will pop up, and there you can click on “Software Update.”

According to Apple, regular, 2nd generation AirPods require macOS Mojave 10.14.4 or later, and AirPods Pro require Catalina 10.15.1 or later.

Now that you’ve made sure your mac is up to date with the latest software, follow these simple steps top connect your AirPods.

1. Open System Preferences

If you can’t find it, it’s the icon on your desktop that looks like a gear. You can also search for System Preferences using Spotlight (the magnifying glass in the upper right hand corner of your desktop.)

2. Select Bluetooth

I happen to use a Mac, so here’s what I’m talking about. This is the icon you’re looking for.

The Bluetooth icon is easy to find in system preferences.

3. Place both AirPods in the case and open the lid

Simple enough.

4. Hold the button on the AirPod case

You should see the light start to blink white. Once it does, you can let go of the button.

5. Wait for your AirPods to show up on your devices, then click Connect

Presto. That should be it. Note: If you do not see your AirPods, double-check that Bluetooth is turned on, then restart the process.

Now, what if you don’t use a Mac? Well, the process should be pretty much exactly the same. Pretty much. The only thing that’s really going to change is how you navigate to the Bluetooth page. Here’s a few different ways you might get there:

  1. On a PC, open Settings from your Start menu.

  2. Select devices, navigate to Bluetooth and other devices, then hit the plus sign where it says “Add Bluetooth or other device.”

  3. Open the AirPods’ case lid, hold the button, and select your AirPods once they pop up on the screen.

  4. The headphones should connect, then you’ll click “Done.”

Not all PCs come equipped with Bluetooth, especially desktops. However if you have a laptop, it’s quite likely that your PC does have Bluetooth capabilities.

There you have it, folks. Enjoy your brave new world in which your AirPods pair seamlessly with your computer.

Snapchat profiles will feature full-body 3D Bitmojis and backgrounds

Snapchat profiles are making Bitmoji more lifelike than ever.

Snapchat profiles are getting a full-body makeover.

Bitmojis have been a central feature of Snapchat profiles since 2017, when they became the default image within Snapcodes, the QR codes displayed on profiles that link to your personal profile.

Now, they’re becoming more prominent than ever. Beginning Monday, Snapchat users will be able to feature 3D, full-body versions of their Bitmoji avatars on their profiles. Previously, Bitmojis on profiles were just heads and shoulders inside those Snapcodes. With the new design, users can choose different poses, like peace signs or 3/4 turns, and backgrounds like colorful wall paper or city scenes. The newest accessory for the Bitmoji fit? Earrings.

Via Giphy

Snap acquired Bitmoji maker Bitstrips in 2016. Since then, Snapchat has integrated the customizable, animated avatars throughout the app. That includes games, wherein a user’s Bitmoji is their game avatar, and a cartoon series, which featured each person’s Bitmoji as the “star” of a TV show. It’s also been an avenue for commerce: Snap has partnered with brands like Ralph Lauren to debut capsule collections. Users can dress their Bitmoji in designer threads, and even purchase corresponding garments (off the app) to wear in real life.

The profile glow up is interesting, though, considering that Snapchat has long de-emphasized the role of profiles in the app. That’s been for the slightly philosophical reason that Snap wants users to communicate their authentic, in-the-moment selves, as opposed to the static and polished profile.

However, things have begun to change. Everyday users (as opposed to creators) were able to start making public profiles last year. On a user’s profile, there is now a call to action to make a public profile to grow a following on Spotlight, Snap’s TikTok-like portal featuring a never-ending stream of viral content. A more dynamic profile could entice creators to invest in using Spotlight by giving them a bigger launchpad to showcase their personalities (and perhaps, eventually, brand partnerships).

Choose your background and your sassy pose, and make sure everyone can see it.

Business motivations aside, the new profile is cute. The full-body Bitmoji can be striding down a city street or busting a move on the dance floor. The multiple angles of the poses bring the lil’ avatars to life. And while Snap has had full-body Bitmojis (and outfits) for a while, it says its “pixar-quality 3D” allows for enhanced details and textures. Snap’s customization options are prolific, ranging from skin color (my Bitmoji’s hue is a vibrant lavender) to body type and beyond.

The profile changes begin rolling out globally Monday. While you might not get the new look right away, you can get to your profile by clicking your Bitmoji in the top left corner of your screen. Then, scroll down to the “Bitmoji” section, where you can change your outfit, edit your Bitmoji, and even — of course — “Shop Bitmoji Merch.”

Which wireless earbuds have the best sound? These are our top picks.

With fewer devices having headphone jacks, Bluetooth headphones and earbuds have become the norm. A wireless pair of earbuds means you don’t have to worry about cords getting tangled in your pocket or bag. You just pop them out of their case and into your ears and you’re good to go.

Wired earbuds vs. wireless earbuds

Wireless earbuds connect to your devices via Bluetooth, and usually after you’ve paired them once, they connect automatically when you put them in your ears. Most devices have Bluetooth capabilities, but not every electronic has an aux port, so wireless earbuds are honestly the safer choice, unless you want to carry around an adapter everywhere you go.

Bluetooth connection is reliable and you shouldn’t experience too many audio drops or connectivity issues with wireless earbuds.

Wired headphones can provide better connection and sound quality, but they tie you to your phone or computer, so you’re not able to walk around freely while still listening to your audio. On the plus side, you don’t have to worry about battery life with wired earbuds since they’re not battery-powered. They’re also usually cheaper than wireless earbuds if you have any financial restraints.

Overall, we prefer to go wireless, and we’re guessing you do too since you’re here reading this.

Earbuds vs. headphones

Headphones go over or around your ears while earbuds go inside and have a much smaller profile. Choosing between the two comes down to style, comfort, and sound quality. Headphones can squeeze your head and give you a headache if you wear them too long, and while earbuds won’t do the same, they can make your ears feel sore after extended wear. It’s all about personal preference on which fit you like better.

10 of the best wireless headphones, according to Amazon reviews

Earbuds are easier to transport, and because they’re smaller, you don’t have many restrictions when it comes to wearing them. You can wear wireless earbuds while also wearing a helmet or hat, which is not so easy or comfortable with headphones.

Headphones do provide a better seal and have larger speakers, causing them to be the winners in the sound quality department. There’s some give and take when choosing between wireless earbuds and wireless headphones.

What to look for when buying wireless earbuds

Battery life is one of the most important features to look at in a pair of wireless earbuds. You don’t want to have to take a break from your music or podcast in the middle of listening because your earbuds’ battery died. You want a pair of buds that have a long playback time as well as a decent extended battery life from the charging case. If the playback battery life is less than five hours, you’re going to have to pop the earbuds back in their case more frequently than you might want. On the bright side, though, charging cases usually work pretty quickly and a fast 15-minute charge will provide you with an hour or more of listening time. And if you prefer wireless charging, look for a pair of earbuds that has that capability.

You’ll also want to pay attention to how the earbuds actually fit. Do you want rubber tips? Ear hooks? If fitted silicone tips don’t sit right in your ears, the original AirPods might be more comfortable for you. PowerBeats Pros are also good if standard earbuds don’t stay in your ears, because they feature over-the-ear hooks to ensure those puppies stay put.

Sound quality and noise reduction or cancellation are also important to consider when buying wireless earbuds. Like we said, headphones are probably going to give you better audio quality, but you can still get some crisp, full sound from earbuds. Brands like Bose, Sony, and Sennheiser are known for their great sound quality, so you can expect their reputations to shine through their wireless earbuds.

Active noise cancellation in wireless earbuds

When wireless earbuds first hit the market, we didn’t see many with noise cancellation abilities, but now it seems that noise-canceling earbuds are the standard. This means newer models of wireless earbuds cost a bit more than their predecessors, but in our opinion, the extra cost is worth it.

SEE ALSO:

Best noise-canceling headphones for blocking out the world

Active noise cancellation isn’t the same in earbuds as it is in headphones. Over-ear headphones can create a sound-blocking seal that you just physically cannot get with earbuds. But earbuds with silicone tips still do a pretty good job creating a seal that allows for ANC. It’s definitely enough for blocking out noisy coworkers or a loud, bustling street.

Most earbuds with active noise cancellation also have some form of transparent or ambient mode that you can turn on to hear what’s going on around you.

Are true wireless earbuds worth it?

Let us put it simply: yes. Truly wireless earbuds give you totally free mobility (within range of your device, which is usually about 30 feet). You’re able to walk around the house or office, go for a run, and so much more without being tethered to your phone. You won’t experience the awful yank that happens when you drop your phone while wearing wired earbuds.

Wireless earbuds that have a connecting cord still run the risk of getting caught on something and getting tugged out of your ears. Truly wireless earbuds are the only way to avoid this.

Are cheap wireless earbuds good?

Wireless earbuds are an item to splurge on. A low price tag may sound appealing, but you’re going to be losing out on sound quality, features, and durability. Dropping $200 for a pair of earbuds might not seem ideal, but you know for that price they’re going to last. Opting for a cheap pair of wireless earbuds could mean that you’ll have to replace them not long after buying. And in the end, that’ll cost you more than if you just bought the nice, expensive pair from the start.

However, there are a few decent wireless earbuds under $100 — you just won’t get as many features. Which is totally fine if you’re more budget-focused. Just know that if you dip into the $20 to $30 range, you shouldn’t expect much in terms of quality and longevity.

How AirPods compare to other wireless earbuds

Apple is almost always going to be one of our top picks. The company just knows what it’s doing. That said, there are some other wireless earbuds that give Apple’s buds a run for their money.

Bose, Jabra, and Sony have stellar sound quality that meets or surpasses Apple. And the brands feature different designs for their buds if you don’t like the way AirPods look. It seems like most wireless earbuds now have silicone ear tips, so the original AirPods stand out by having an earpiece we’re familiar with from Apple’s wired earbuds.

Choosing the right pair of wireless earbuds for you comes down to your personal preferences, but here’s a guide to help you directly compare the top earbuds on the market based on specs like battery life, style, noise-canceling features, music controls, and more.

Create delicious sparkling water with a carbonator on sale

You'll never have to pay for bottled sparkling water again.

TL;DR: Elevate your beverage game with the AWA Carbonator, on sale for 20% off. As of July 19, bring one home for only $119.95.

If you’re the kind of person who prefers their water bubbly, you probably already know how expensive it can get. Toting multiple 12-packs of LaCroix home from the grocery store every week adds up — in both cost and in waste. You may want to invest in an at-home carbonator.

For a limited time, the AWA Carbonator is on sale for 20% off. All you’ll need is a standard CO2 tank from your local grocery store to get started. Load it on by screwing it in tightly, add some water to the included bottle, and insert it into the machine. Then just press the button on top to carbonate it to your liking. (The longer you hold it down, the more bubbles you’ll get.)

With the carbonator, you’ll also get the reusable AWA Signature Bottle. It’s made of clear BPA-free plastic with metal parts and can fit up to 850ml of water. It’s also dishwasher-safe.

While it’s regularly $149, you can snag both the carbonator and reusable bottle on sale for just $119.99 for a limited time.
