‘Quordle’ today: Here are the answers and hints for July 11

A woman's hands holding a mobile phone playing 'Quordle'

If Quordle is a little too challenging today, you’ve come to the right place for hints. There aren’t just hints here, but the whole Quordle solution. Scroll to the bottom of this page, and there it is. But are you sure you need all four answers? Maybe you just need a strategy guide. Either way, scroll down, and you’ll get what you need.

What is Quordle?

Quordle is a five-letter word guessing game similar to Wordle, except each guess applies letters to four words at the same time. You get nine guesses instead of six to correctly guess all four words. It looks like playing four Wordle games at the same time, and that is essentially what it is. But it’s not nearly as intimidating as it sounds.

Is Quordle harder than Wordle?

Yes, though not diabolically so.

Where did Quordle come from?

Amid the Wordle boom of late 2021 and early 2022, when everyone was learning to love free, in-browser, once-a-day word guessing games, creator Freddie Meyer says he took inspiration from one of the first big Wordle variations, Dordle — the one where you essentially play two Wordles at once. He took things up a notch, and released Quordle on January 30. Meyer’s creation was covered in The Guardian six days later, and now, according to Meyer, it attracts millions of daily users. Today, Meyer earns modest revenue from Patreon, where dedicated Quordle fans can donate to keep their favorite puzzle game running.

How is Quordle pronounced?

“Kwordle.” It should rhyme with “Wordle,” and definitely should not be pronounced exactly like “curdle.”

Is Quordle strategy different from Wordle?

Yes and no.

Your starting strategy should be the same as with Wordle. In fact, if you have a favorite Wordle opening word, there’s no reason to change that here. We suggest something rich in vowels, featuring common letters like C, R, and N. But you do you.

After your first guess, however, you’ll notice things getting out of control if you play Quordle exactly like Wordle.

What should I do in Quordle that I don’t do in Wordle?

Solving a Wordle puzzle can famously come down to a series of single letter-change variations. If you’ve narrowed it down to “-IGHT,” you could guess “MIGHT” “NIGHT” “LIGHT” and “SIGHT” and one of those will probably be the solution — though this is also a famous way to end up losing in Wordle, particularly if you play on “hard mode.” In Quordle, however, this sort of single-letter winnowing is a deadly trap, and it hints at the important strategic difference between Wordle and Quordle: In Quordle, you can’t afford to waste guesses unless you’re eliminating as many letters as possible at all times.

Guessing a completely random word that you already know isn’t the solution, just to eliminate three or four possible letters you haven’t tried yet, is thought of as a desperate, latch-ditch move in Wordle. In Quordle, however, it’s a normal part of the player’s strategic toolset.

Is there a way to get the answer faster?

In my experience Quordle can be a slow game, sometimes dragging out longer than it would take to play Wordle four times. But a sort of blunt-force guessing approach can speed things up. The following strategy also works with Wordle if you only want the solution, and don’t care about having the fewest possible guesses:

Try starting with a series of words that puts all the vowels (including Y) on the board, along with some other common letters. We’ve had good luck with the three words: “NOTES,” “ACRID,” and “LUMPY.” YouTuber DougMansLand suggests four words: “CANOE,” “SKIRT,” “PLUMB,” and “FUDGY.”

Most of the alphabet is now eliminated, and you’ll only have the ability to make one or two wrong guesses if you use this strategy. But in most cases you’ll have all the information you need to guess the remaining words without any wrong guesses.

If strategy isn’t helping, and you’re still stumped, here are some hints:

Are there any double or triple letters in today’s Quordle words?

One word has a double letter.

Are any rare letters being used in today’s Quordle like Q or Z?

No.

What do today’s Quordle words start with?

M, A, L, and T.

What are the answers for today’s Quordle?

Are you sure you want to know?

There’s still time to turn back.

OK, you asked for it. The answers are:

  1. MODEL

  2. AISLE

  3. LIMBO

  4. TULLE

One thing about Walmart is that it will never pass up a chance to mess with Jeff Bezos’ bottom line.

The big box store just launched a summer savings event called Walmart+ Week, a semi-spinoff of last June’s Walmart+ Weekend that spans its electronics, toys, home, and apparel departments. The sale runs during (and longer than) Amazon Prime Day from Monday, July 10 at 12 p.m. ET until Thursday, July 13 at 7 p.m. ET exclusively on Walmart.com.

Unlike Prime Day deals, which are Prime member exclusives, Walmart+ Week offers aren’t gatekept behind a subscription fee. However, paid members of the retailer’s Walmart+ service get 24 hours of early access to the sale before it opens to the general public at 12 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 11. Shoppers interested in signing up can save 50% on an annual subscription through July 13.

Amazon’s flagship sale typically hogs the spotlight this time of year, and perhaps rightfully so: Its eight-year existence is simply more established, and each iteration has featured uncontested deals on products from its many in-house brands. But Walmart+ Week has two big things going for it:

  1. There’s no membership fee required to unlock deals — Walmart+ members just get a head start.

  2. The sale began a day before Prime Day and runs a day past it. (That’s 48 extra hours of shopping.)

One thing Walmart has in common with Amazon is a penchant for messing with products’ list prices, a practice that can make discounts look better or worse than they actually are. It also loves to feature older, not-worth-it-anymores that have been discontinued by their manufacturers during sales like these. As such, we peruse its doorbusters with our finest fine-toothed combs.

Below, we’re keeping a running list of the very best Walmart+ Week deals we truly recommend. If you see an original list price that doesn’t match what Walmart’s advertising, it’s because we found a different (correct) one when we cross-checked it on a brand or manufacturer’s site.

Note: All newly added deals are marked with a , while offers with a strikeout were either sold out or no longer available at their sale price when we last looked.

Walmart’s bringing you The Breath of the Wild for $17 off

man playing legend of zelda breath of the wild on nintendo switch

Save $17: As of July 10, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game for Nintendo Switch is on sale for $42.99 at Walmart— which is equivalent to 28% off. Until noon on July 11, all Walmart+ members can take advantage of this discount, at which point it will become widely available to all shoppers.

It’s that time of the year when Walmart tries as hard as it can to distract shoppers from the famous Amazon Prime Day sales event. And every year, the rival Walmart sale gets a little bit more enticing. There’s one deal in particular we’re excited about, and it’s this $17 discount on what’s sure to be the game of the year. If you and your Nintendo Switch are practically inseparable (and if you somehow haven’t started playing it yet), then you’re sure to savor these 28 percent savings on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game.

But hold on a sec. It’s important to note that this early deal is only available for Walmart+ members right now. Everyone else can step into the kingdom of Hyrul by buying this game on July 11 starting at 12 p.m. ET — that is, if supplies last. This is Walmart’s not-so-subtle way of encouraging shoppers to sign up for Walmart+, and it’s no coincidence that Walmart+ memberships are actually 50% off right now (and that’s in addition to the usual 30-day free trial). As far as the price is concerned, we think $42.99 looks pretty sweet. According to the price tracking app Honey, the game most often retails for $59.99.

Breath of the Wild is a thrilling continuation of the Legend of Zelda game franchise. As with previous Zelda titles, it’s filled with dynamic puzzles, weapons, armor, plants, animals, and elixirs. Unlike past games, it turns the player into an engineer, letting you build fantastic machines with which to explore the game’s vast open-air environment. This game holds many clever challenges that even Zelda veterans won’t see coming, and the visuals on display are truly mesmerizing. Your Nintendo Switch is practically begging for this new addition. So, why not get Breath of the Wild while it’s on sale at Walmart?

By now, Mashable readers should know that Prime Day 2023 takes place on July 11 and 12, but you should also know that Amazon isn’t the only retailer offering discounts. To stop Amazon from taking even more of the e-commerce pie, Best Buy is also dropping deals on popular products, and few products are more popular than the classic Nintendo Switch console. For a limited time, Best Buy shoppers who purchase the original Nintendo Switch with Blue and Red Joy‑Cons will also receive a $25 electronic Best Buy gift card at purchase. And if you’re a My Best Buy member, you’ll receive a $50 gift card instead.

In order to qualify for the gift card, there’s no fine print or hoops to jump through. Once your order is fulfilled by Best Buy (or when your order is picked up in-store), you’ll automatically be sent your electronic gift card. We won’t tell you how to spend your money, but that bonus money could get you almost half off the game-of-the-year frontrunner The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is on sale at Best Buy for $52.99 at the time of writing.

We don’t know how long this Best Buy Nintendo Switch gift card deal will last. If you’re not seeing the promo that reads, “Free $25 gift card with purchase,” on the Best Buy website, there are still plenty more video game deals to shop right now. The OLED Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart 8 bundle is on sale for Walmart+ Week

SAVE $34.99: As of July 10, Walmart+ members can grab a Nintendo Switch OLED and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle for just $374.99. Considering neither the console nor game goes on sale often, this 9% discount of its usual $409.98 price is well worth it.

If you’ve held out for the release of a next-gen Switch or updated Mario Kart game, and ultimately found yourself regrettably Switchless and Kart-less, we have great news for you.

100+ of the best gaming deals you can shop ahead of Amazon Prime Day

During the first day of Walmart+ Week (one of several unofficial anti-Prime Day sales), Walmart has marked down a bundle of the Nintendo Switch OLED and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, bringing it down to just $374.99. That nets you a total savings of $34.99, and scores you a sale price on two items that are rarely found on sale at all.

The OLED model Switch is one of our absolute favorite handheld gaming consoles, and is by far the best Switch to date. Usually, it’ll set you back $350 on its own, so this bundle is especially welcome, as it throws in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (which goes for $60 at its full price), and fulfills the basic truth that every Nintendo console owner should own Mario Kart, too.

The small catch is that this deal is only available to Walmart+ members, at least for July 10 during the early access portion of Walmart+ Week. However, Walmart+ memberships are half off through July 13, so you can snag this deal (and maybe a few more) even if you’re not yet a member.

Plus, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to grab this console and game before the next wave of DLC tracks drops in two days.

How to use Apple Pay on Amazon

Apple pay icon

Amazon Prime Day is finally here!

Avid shoppers keeping their eyes on exclusive Prime Day deals can enjoy a breezy shopping experience while they benefit from major deals from July 11-12 thanks to Amazon’s flexible payment options. Users are no longer limited to debit and/or credit cards or Amazon gift cards; if you’re an Apple loyalist, you can also use Apple Pay to make purchases on Amazon. (Though, not all vendors accept Apple Pay.)

Here’s how.

Step 1: Setting up Apple Pay on iPhone: If you haven’t already, add your debit or credit card to your iPhone’s digital wallet to set up Apple Pay on your mobile device.

Step 2: Open the Amazon app.

Step 3: Add items to your cart and go to checkout. If your vendor accepts Apple Pay, you’ll see it under payment options (you can use the method only if you have linked a card to your iPhone’s Wallet app); select Apple Pay.

Step 4: Confirm your address and payment details.

Step 5: Once Apple Pay’s payment authenticator pops up on your screen, use your Face Id or Touch Id to authenticate the purchase.

Step 6: Confirm payment to finish the process.

You can also use Apple Card to make payments on Amazon

In case your third party vendor doesn’t accept Apple Pay, you can workaround it by using your Apple Card instead. The process is fairly straightforward.

Step 1: Make sure you add your Apple Card to the Wallet app on iPhone by clicking on the + symbol.

Step 2: Now, go to the Amazon app.

Step 3: You’ll find four clickable options at the bottom of the home screen. Start the process by clicking on the Account icon which is right next to the homepage icon.

Step 4: A new app page will appear. Tap on Your Account to access account details.

Step 5: Scroll down on the page until you see the Payments section and click on Your Payments.

Step 6: Another page with all your linked cards and bank accounts will appear on the app. Go to the Wallet tab and press +Add.

Step 7: Click on Add a credit or debit card and input your Apple card details.

Step 8: Finally, click on Add and continue to finish the process. Now, you can use your Apple Card to make purchases on Amazon.

Walmart+ members can score $70 off the Xbox Series S bundle right before Prime Day

Xbox Series S console

SAVE $70: As of July 10, Walmart+ members can snag an Xbox Series S bundle for $70 off the usual price during Walmart+ Week — a steal just before the Amazon Prime Day festivities begin. This deal is only available for Walmart+ members through July 11 at 12 p.m. ET.

‘Twas the night before Prime Day, and Walmart decided to steal some of the shopping holiday thunder with an Xbox Series S deal you won’t want to miss.

For a limited time, Walmart+ members will be able to score an Xbox Series S bundle, which includes an extra controller, for $70 off the usual price (just $289.99). This is probably going to be one of the best gaming-centric deals of Walmart+ Week, which ends on July 13, so you’d be smart to get in there quickly. (Note: Walmart has the original price listed for $329.99, but an Xbox Series S and extra controller bought separately actually comes out to $359.99)

SEE ALSO:

100+ of the best gaming deals you can shop ahead of Amazon Prime Day

You’ve probably heard us say this before, but it bears repeating: The Xbox Series S is one of the best deals in gaming. Not only is the price low for a new-gen console as it is, but the quality you get for the money is remarkable, especially when you compare it to the Series X. As long as you’re fine with skipping the X’s true 4K resolution and extra horsepower, you’ll be more than happy with what the Series S can do (which is a lot). Pick up a Game Pass subscription (which you can get for just $1 right now), and you’ll have quite the combo.

Preparing an Amazon wishlist ahead of Prime Day 2023 can save you serious time (and money)

Illustration of people receiving floating packages

UPDATE: Jul. 10, 2023, 5:15 p.m. EDT This article has been updated with new information regarding Prime Day 2023.

Amazon Prime Day is back, baby.

For the ninth year in a row, Amazon will be offering 48 hours of deals on deals on deals officially starting Tuesday, July 11 at 3 a.m. ET through the end of Wednesday, July 12. Amazon will be dropping new deals every 30 minutes on top of the early Prime Day deals it’s been running for weeks.

The event is for Prime members only, but all inflation-weary shoppers searching for summer deals can get their hands dirty by signing up for Amazon’s 30-day free trial. Or, of course, you can shop the competing sales at Walmart, Target, or Best Buy.

There are obviously a lot of great deals to be had, but the next few days don’t have to be as overwhelming as they sound. Our pro tip for actually saving money (and time, and sanity) this Prime Day? Organize (and actually follow) a wishlist. Practices like pinning down must-have items ahead of time or setting price drop alerts can help you stay on track with your spending rather than crossing into buyer’s remorse territory after a ravenous “add to cart” spree.

SEE ALSO:

Prime Day 2023 isn’t for a few weeks, but these deals aren’t waiting

Tip #1: Organize your Amazon wishlist

If it’s news to you that Amazon even offers such a feature, here’s how it works:

Basically, every product page on the retail giant’s website has a little “add to list” button right around where the “add to cart” button is located (very convenient placement). Click on that, and you can add said product to your personal Amazon wishlist, or any other list that you’ve created for yourself on your profile.

Do this with every gadget, gizmo, and knick-knack you think would make a worthy addition to your collection of goods, or shop for upcoming birthdays, bridal showers, or even the winter holidays. What you’ll end up with is an organized, definitive page of all that you desire. View it all at a glance, or even rank each item based on how much you want it.

Your Amazon wishlist is one of the most useful tools that you have at your disposal come Prime day.

Then, and here’s the important part, be sure to check back on your list when Prime Day 2023 kicks into high gear — you’ll be able to see which products have gone on sale and snatch them up before they’re gone.

WARNING: Only add the necessities to your wishlist or risk critical failure and end up with mass shipments of shit you don’t need, never needed, and will never need. (Did you *have* to get that life-size cardboard cutout of Danny DeVito? No. No you didn’t. But now he’s standing there in the corner of your living room. And he’s watching you.)

Tip #2: Turn on wishlist alerts

That’s not where the perks of “wishlisting” cap out. In fact, if you download Amazon’s mobile companion app, you’ll be granted the added benefit of “wishlist alerts.”

These alerts can aid in notifying you when an item on your wishlist becomes a “lightning deal,” as well as when a sold-out item on your wishlist goes back in stock.

This isn’t a notification setting that’s turned on by default, so you’ll have to go in and check it off yourself. All you have to do is open up the Amazon app, go into your settings, then to your notifications, and click on “your watched and waitlisted deals.”

Picture of Amazon "wishlist" alerts feature.

It’s this one.

Tip #3: Turn on Alexa’s advanced deal alerts

As it turns out, newer Echo smart speakers are good for more than just bumping out your playlists. They can also notify you of a sale on an item in your wishlist, shopping cart, or “saved for later” queue up to 24 hours before it even goes live.

Open up the Alexa mobile app to turn on the advanced deal alerts feature. You’ll find it under More > Settings > Notifications > Amazon Shopping; once you’re there, just click Shopping Recommendations and then Deal Recommendations. Since you already have your wishlist organized and ready to go, that’s all there is to it. You’ll see a pop-up alert or a yellow ring light on your Echo device whenever Alexa finds out about an upcoming deal on products in your wishlist. Just ask, “Alexa, what are my notifications?” to get the scoop.

You can either have Alexa let you know once the deal is live or even give her the go ahead to order it for you (“Alexa, buy it for me”). Your default payment and delivery address on file will be used automatically.

Voilà — now you’ll never miss a deal for something you actually want. Your Amazon wishlist is one of the most useful tools that you have at your disposal to ensure a successful shopping experience.

Also, keep a watchful eye out for our Prime Day coverage, where we’ll be highlighting all the best deals that you can get your hands on.

Twitter backtracks to the old version of TweetDeck

The Twitter bird logo in a vibrant purple color.

The old version of TweetDeck is back.

Last week Twitter launched a new iteration of TweetDeck and it’s already doubled back. On Monday, July 3, the official Twitter Support account announced, “We have just launched a new, improved version of TweetDeck,” with the caveat that in 30 days, only Twitter Blue subscribers will have access to the tool. However, as The Verge reports, the old TweetDeck is back with no announcement of its return by Elon Musk, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, or any official Twitter account.

SEE ALSO:

Twitter will soon make you pay for TweetDeck

TweetDeck2.0 added several functionalities including video docking and a Tweet composer feature, but it didn’t maintain key features like the Activity Tab and TweetDeck Teams which allows users to share accounts without sharing passwords making it unpopular among users.

TweetDeck launched as a free, independent app in 2008 before being acquired by Twitter in 2011. Aimed at Twitter power users and professionals, TweetDeck allows users to view tweets in multiple customizable columns. Given that the app has been free for 15 years, no one is excited for it to become a paid feature.

It’s unclear how long the old version of TweetDeck will be available, so use it while you can.

Emmy nominations 2023: How and when to watch

A gold Emmys award statue.

It’s been another year of fantastic television from the final season of Succession to season 2 of The Bear and it’s almost that time of the year when we find out who will face off at the 2023 Emmys … and who got snubbed. That’s right, it’s Emmy nomination season.

The Emmys nomination announcement is Wednesday, July 12 at 8:30 a.m. PT. It’s helmed by Community star Yvette Nicole Brown and the Television Academy Chairman Frank Scherma. To watch the event tune into the Emmys website where it will stream live or you can watch it live on FOX.

The Last Of Us should be a shoo-in in our opinion for an Outstanding Drama Series nomination and Succession‘s Jeremy Strong, Brian Cox, and Kieran Culkin are all strong contenders for Outstanding Lead Actor nominations. But we will be sitting to watch on Wednesday to find out who ends up with the nominations.

This is all in anticipation of the 75th Emmys Awards which will take place Monday, Sept. 18.
