Internet, why won’t you let me live stream this dog surfing competition?!

TwitterFacebook

The dogs have gathered. The surf is up. The puppy-sized rash guards are on. And the Dog Surfing Championship of 2018 is underway in Pacifica, California.

But something is amiss. All I want to do is sit back and watch the glory of canines riding sweet waves from my Brooklyn apartment, 3,000 miles away from the Good Boys on boards. Alas, the internet has failed me.

Internet, it’s 2018 — why the HECK is there no live stream of the World Dog Surfing Championships?!

A scroll through the very official website’s event page brings up no links to watch. I guess I will have to settle for these images and videos on Twitter. Read more…

The perfect time to watch HBO’s ‘Succession’ is right now

TwitterFacebook

The season finale of HBO’s new corporate drama Succession airs Sunday night, and really, it’s best you devote some time to catching up. But don’t watch Succession because it’s a great drama — binge it because it’s, at least in part, a deranged dark comedy.

Succession is a Serious Drama about a billionaire family whose members are all vying for control of its aging patriarch’s media empire, Waystar Royco. It’s got all the things that make for a good HBO ensemble drama: fancy outfits, traumatic pasts, complex antiheroes, multi-stranded narratives.

Oprah imagining the perfect date night is the only good thing on the internet this week

TwitterFacebook

This is One Good Thing, a weekly column where we tell you about the only nice thing that happened on the internet this week.

Ah, Oprah. Is there no greater force of pure good in this world than this benevolent billionaire? Yeah, probably, but who cares? The lovable media mogul consistently nurtures our souls with her book club picks, recommendations for off-the-shoulder cashmere cowl neck sweaters, and her line of hearty soups and sides.

And just this week Oprah blessed us once more by providing the internet with some insight into what her perfect date nights with long-time partner Stedman Graham entail. Read more…

‘SNL’ and ‘It’s Always Sunny’ writers lend their talents to a new anti-theft Alexa app

TwitterFacebook

You can get smart lights and plugs to simulate you being home when you’re out, but that costs a lot of money.

The fix? If you have an Amazon Echo or Alexa-enabled speaker this new “Away Mode” skill by Hippo might be the saving grace that doesn’t break the bank.

SEE ALSO: Google announces its first foray into the security key market

It goes a step further than a security system sign in the front yard. “Away Mode” plays conversations, recorded with real-life people — no AI-simulated voices here, folks. This is undoubtedly a lighter and more humorous approach to deterrence, as these conversations are awkward.  Read more…

Instagram just made it way too easy to accidentally unfollow someone

TwitterFacebook

Instagram used to have a safeguard in place to make sure you really, truly wanted to stop following someone on its mobile app.

If you clicked on the “unfollow” button (it looks like the top half of a person with a check mark next to it) intentionally or accidentally, it would ask if you were sure you wanted to unfollow that account, giving you a final chance to change your mind.

SEE ALSO: Instagram’s redesigned Explore tab is the newest social media time-sucker

But it quietly removed the dialogue box in the latest app update. Now your hasty swiping or large thumbs could make for some awkward re-follow request situations.  Read more…

Protester mocks Melania Trump’s ‘I Really Don’t Care’ jacket at court appearance

TwitterFacebook

The woman who climbed the Statue of Liberty has a statement for Melania Trump: she really cares.

Patricia Okoumou scaled Lady Liberty a month ago to protest Donald Trump’s immigration policy of family separation. During the three-hour standoff with police officers, she said she wouldn’t come down until “all the children are released.”  Okoumou’s statement was in reference to the Trump administration detaining and separating immigrant children from their families attempting to enter the country.

For her court appearance on Friday, Okoumou wore a green dress painted with the words “I really care, why won’t u?” The dress is a play on the cargo jacket that Melania Trump was dragged for wearing to a visit to a facility for detained families.  Read more…

Facebook is testing its very own dating app

TwitterFacebook

Yes, Facebook Dating is a real thing. And we may have just received a sneak peek.

Jane Manchun Wong — an app researcher who’s spotted Facebook features in the past, like Talent Show — posted photos from what she claims is an internal test of Facebook Dating.

But who had a calculator like this one

Apple started the trend with the rose gold iPhone, and now you’ll be the coolest kid in class with the new rose gold color option for the TI-84 Plus CE. (Note: It’s more of a light pink color.)
