One of the most popular Ethereum apps sure looks like a Ponzi scheme

TwitterFacebook

They’re not even trying to hide it anymore.

One of the most popular apps built on the Ethereum blockchain, a so-called DApp, is promising users a guaranteed fixed daily return on their investments. And all the would be crypto-rich have to do is put in a bunch of cryptocurrency up front, then sit back and wait for the rewards to come pouring in. Assuming new people keep following suit, that is.

And man, it sure does look a lot like a blatant Ponzi scheme.

For those not in the know, a DApp is a decentralized application built on a blockchain like Ethereum or EOS. You may be familiar with legitimate DApps such as Augur or CryptoKitties, but this is not a story about what honest programmers can create using the power of the blockchain. Rather, this is a look at the magical thinking of 333 ETH — a DApp that promises “life-long payments guaranteed by the Ethereum blockchain!” Read more…

Before Hurricane Florence hit, Tesla gave its electric cars a boost by extending the range of their batteries to help people evacuate.

Florence made landfall in North Carolina on Friday before being downgraded to a tropical storm.

As NPR reported, Tesla can remotely tap into the max capacity of its 75 kWh batteries in Model S and X vehicles, adding about 30 more miles of range.

Weatherman dramatically braces for Hurricane Florence while 2 guys casually stroll by

TwitterFacebook

As Hurricane Florence continues to wreak havoc on the Carolinas, weather people and storm chasers are heading as close as they can to the eye of the storm without putting themselves in danger.

One such meteorologist was caught on camera bracing for the storm … a little too intensely.

In the video shared by Twitter user @gourdnibler, two men can be seen walking at a comfortable and relaxed pace behind Mike Seidel from the Weather Channel battling what one can only assume are ferocious winds.

Others also were able to snag the moment from TV.

Twitter to weather guy reporting on Hurricane Florence: Get inside!

Hurricane Florence is bearing down on the Carolinas with rising floodwaters and intense winds.

Weather forecasts estimate that the Category 2 storm could dump 17 trillion gallons of rain on North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia

But that hasn’t stopped reporters from heading into the thick of it. And people are naturally concerned for their safety, especially for MSNBC’s Gadi Schwartz, who truly is right amongst it.

Here’s where Apple hid your Camera Roll in iOS 12 Messages

TwitterFacebook

iOS users who enjoyed the ability to snap a photo in Messages are in for a big surprise.

There is no longer the ability to snap a shot and just send it to a friend — photos and videos taken in the Camera app are automatically added into your library.

Apple didn’t highlight this change on stage at WWDC alongside iOS 12. However, it arrived in Beta 1 and stuck through the final beta, and it seems it’s here to stay.

Essentially, tapping the camera icon on the top-left side of the keyboard now opens the viewfinder, and once you take a photo — or a few quick snaps — they’re all added to your library. Read more…

10 best places where your mom can buy you quality socks and underwear

TwitterFacebook

Nothing says love like a fresh pair of socks and underwear from mom.

But, as with any gift, sometimes the gifter might not get it exactly right. Maybe you’ll get a really ugly pair of socks that would put Justin Trudeau to shame, or maybe you’ll get boxers when you prefer briefs.

Listen here — you’re an adult — and that means you should be relatively OK with telling your mother that underwear from Wet Seal is not ideal. A gentle nudge in the right direction could do the trick, but if your mother still isn’t getting it, perhaps a little more guidance is needed. Read more…
