The Good

Well-balanced sound • Bass isn’t overmixed • Easy Bluetooth pairing • Comfortable to wear for long periods of time

The Bad

Slippery case with small indent can make it hard to open • Shorter than expected battery life • Microphone is basically unusable for phone calls

The Bottom Line

The Soul Electronics Emotion wireless earbuds aren’t perfect. But when the price is just $50, it’s easier to look past the negative and enjoy the well-balanced sound.

Someone mashed up Kavanaugh’s testimony with ‘Pulp Fiction’ and it works disturbingly well

TwitterFacebook

Are you a big Pulp Fiction fan? Let us ruin that for you.

The production company Elara Pictures posted a disturbing video mashup to Instagram Friday: the hamburger scene from Pulp Fiction alongside a few choice moments from Brett Kavanaugh’s petulant testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Remember how, in the movie, Samuel L. Jackson says “Check out the big brain on Brett?” And remember when Kavanaugh (a Brett) bragged about going to Yale Law School yesterday? You see where this is going.

TwitterFacebook

No, it’s not Regina George from Mean Girls.

It’s a picture of 16-year-old Namibian model Clarisse Muller, who has got the internet talking because she looks pretty much identical to the character, played by Rachel McAdams, in the hit 2004 film.

Snapchat’s new mission: getting you to buy more stuff

TwitterFacebook

As Instagram prepares to challenge Amazon, Snapchat is also getting deeper into the retail game — by making it easier to buy and sell stuff in its app.

The app is introducing a new type of ad that will make it easier for users to buy products inside of its app. The new ads, called Collections, allow brands to link to their products without the need for users to swipe up on the ad.

SEE ALSO: The future of Google search looks a lot like social media

Collections will appear in the app between users’ Stories, as well as in the app’s Discover section. The new format, along with other advertising tools Snap just unveiled, will make it much easier for businesses to entice consumers to go from viewing photos to actually buying.  Read more…

Of course, New Zealand’s Prime Minister tried to get a role on ‘Lord of the Rings’

TwitterFacebook

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a topic that seemingly gets brought up with New Zealanders a lot, even with the country’s prime minister.

Jacinda Ardern dropped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night, revealing that she had been knocked back for a role on the movie, as she lived close to where the films were shot.

“I do find it slightly offensive that everyone thinks that every New Zealander starred in either Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit,” Ardern said. “Some of us auditioned but weren’t successful, OK? That’s all I’m going to say.”

Aside from other discussing matters like Trump’s steel tariffs and diplomats laughing at him at the United Nations, Ardern seems pretty down to Earth — especially for a world leader.  Read more…

No matter what happens now, history’s judgment on Kavanaugh is already clear

TwitterFacebook

The date is September 27, 2068. On your neural net’s news feed, you catch a glimpse of an item that says “50th anniversary of Brett Kavanaugh hearings.” You think you vaguely remember something about that from the American history class pills, but the details are vague (you keep confusing the name with Clarence Thomas, for some reason). You fire up the video.

What do you see, through disinterested, utterly neutral future eyes?

You see a woman — quiet, dignified, vulnerable,  heartbreakingly so. She is a neurology professor, and speaks in measured academic tones to an intimidating committee of silent men. She details a sexual assault that took place when she was 15. That’s right, you remember — this is the era when women were just starting to dare speak out about this sort of thing.  Read more…

Kavanaugh says he didn’t even watch Dr. Ford’s testimony

TwitterFacebook

Yes, you read that headline right.

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified before the Senate on Thursday about Kavanaugh’s alleged sexual assault.

Later during the hearing, Senator Kamala Harris asked Kavanaugh, “Did you watch Dr. Ford’s testimony?”

“I did not,” Kavanaugh admitted. “I planned to, but I did not. I was preparing mine.”

Americans were both furious and unconvinced that Kavanaugh claimed he didn’t watch his accuser’s testimony.

Kavanaugh says he didn’t watch Ford’s testimony but that he plans to. In ’91, Thomas told the committee that he didn’t watch Hill’s testimony, which prompted frustration from even some of his defenders on the panel.

Facebook continues to go after YouTube with new video ad options

TwitterFacebook

It’s increasingly clear that Facebook is viewing YouTube as a major competitor.

In a blog post today, Facebook once again demonstrated its focus on video, with an announcement concerning the rollout of more video ad options. It’s a response to advertiser demand for even more control over where video advertisements are shown, the company said. These new options borrow heavily from some of YouTube’s very own video advertising models.

The first new video ad option coming from Facebook is called In-Stream Reserve, which will “allow advertisers to reach people watching video from a selection of the most engaging, highest quality publishers and creators.” Basically, Facebook is allowing advanced ad space buyouts from only its best performing video makers. The audiences for these video ads are U.S.-based and are verified by Nielsen.  Read more…
