‘123456,’ ‘donald,’ and other terrible passwords people used this year

TwitterFacebook

For what seems like the umpteenth time, “123456” and “password” are the most commonly used passwords this year.

Those combinations sit in the number one and two spots respectively, according to SplashData, who evaluates millions of leaked passwords each year for its worst 100 passwords list.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, “donald” was a new entrant to the list this year, sitting at number 23 on the rankings. We sincerely hope someone in the White House isn’t using this password.

Other illustrious newbies include “111111,” which was in sixth place this year, then “sunshine” in eighth, and “princess” in the eleventh spot.  Read more…

Guy who posts billboards gets pranked with a billboard of his own face

TwitterFacebook

This guy really had to *face* himself at work.

Let’s say you post billboards for a living, and your friends regularly prank you by getting you to put up a massive billboard of yourself. This is a true story: Redditor u/Jaydeem89 posted his friend’s reaction to r/funny and r/discgolf. Apparently the friend’s boss is an avid disc golfer and was in on the joke.

SEE ALSO: Fed-up moms respond to ‘Can I cook a turkey in the microwave?’

The billboard features a less-than-flattering selfie of the friend — who was apparently trying to check his eye color — with the question, “Why sleep when there is disc golf?”  Read more…

Fine, we want the Windows Ugly Sweater

TwitterFacebook

I hate that I love it.

In a pun-filled tweet, the Windows Twitter account announced that it’s giving away a select amount of “ugly sweaters” adorned with the blocky Windows 95 logo.

SEE ALSO: No, you don’t need an iPhone X scarf but it 100% exists

It’s chunky. It’s knit. It’s filled with primary colors. It’s positively hideous! Despite all this, I still want the Windows sweater.

Facebook sets up holiday pop-up shop in New York to inform users about privacy concerns

TwitterFacebook

From the Cambridge Analytica scandal to countless other privacy issues, 2018 hasn’t been such a banner year for Facebook when it comes to its users’ private data.

Facebook undoubtedly realizes this and would like to get back in its users’ good graces. So, on Thursday, in Manhattan’s Bryant Park, Facebook set up its own pop-up shop. While the temporary IRL Facebook location was filled with holiday-themed directions, its true purpose was to spread tidings of comfort and joy via educating New Yorkers on the social network’s privacy setting options.

The World of Ice and Fire books are filled with so much that never makes it onto Game of Thrones. But newly released art for the 2020 calendar has renewed hope that we’ll see a fan-favorite beast mentioned only once on the show.

This year, foster a Christmas tree instead of throwing one away

TwitterFacebook

The weeks after Christmas always involve a brutal massacre — of trees.

New York City is already a hideous, odiferous noxious cesspool of waste. The city is magically even more toxic in the days following December 25. All along along our broken streets you’ll see the bodies of the Christmas dead: Balsam, Douglas Fir, Frasier Fir.

It doesn’t have to be this way. People can make a different choice: they can foster a lil’ Christmas tree and help it grow into a beautiful adult tree.

SEE ALSO: Half Christmas trees hope to stop your pets and kids from messing with the tree

Fostering a Christmas tree isn’t so different from fostering, say, a pet. But, instead of taking care of some nasty cat you’re responsible for watering a silent plant. What a dream.  Read more…
