Joe Biden goes vroom vroom in electric Hummer

U.S. President Joe Biden was feeling the need for speed on Wednesday, test driving an electric Hummer during a visit to a General Motors factory in Detroit, Michigan.

“Anybody want to jump in the back? On the roof?” Biden joked out the window to reporters. “This sucker is something else.”

Earlier this week Biden signed a $1 trillion infrastructure bill which allocated $7.5 billion for building a network of electric vehicle charging stations across the U.S. The hope is that this will make electric cars a more viable option for many, spurring more widespread adoption, and reducing carbon emissions.

Thus, to promote this investment, Biden took the opportunity to jump behind the wheel of a prototype electric Hummer and floor it. It seems the commander-in-chief’s driving style and attitude toward acceleration isn’t quite what you’d normally expect from a 78-year-old man.

This isn’t the first time Biden has tried out an electric car, having previously taken Ford’s F-150 Lightning electric truck for a spin in May.

“Like I said,” tweeted Biden on Wednesday, “I’m a car guy.”
