Rosette Pambakian won’t back down. 

The former Tinder executive filed a sexual assault and workplace retaliation lawsuit against the dating app’s parent companies on Monday. The filing comes roughly a year after the alleged groping was described in a separate lawsuit that claimed Match Group and IAC Interactive cheated Tinder founders, including Pambakian, out of billions of dollars.

While Pambakian’s assault was used as an example of mismanagement in the previous lawsuit, this time it’s front and center. Pambakian, who was head of Tinder’s communications at the time, says in court documents that former Tinder and Match CEO Gregory Blatt groped her breasts and thighs and kissed her shoulders, neck, and chest without consent after a 2016 holiday party. Earlier in the evening, he allegedly told her, “I get hard every time I look at you.”  Read more…

Days after one of its members shot and killed 22 people in an El Paso Wal-Mart, the hate-filled imageboard known as 8chan is finding it hard to stay online.

In a 180 degree turn from its original position, web security provider Cloudflare decided Sunday to terminate its services with the online community.  The imageboard was back online via a different security service several hours later — until another firm that service relies on gave it the boot.

The El Paso shooter was found to have posted his intent, as well as a racist anti-immigrant manifesto, to 8chan. This year alone, two other white supremacist mass killers, including the Christchurch mosque shooter, had also posted prior warning and distributed their screeds on the site. Read more…

Microsoft is warning that a Russian group that was involved with the 2016 DNC hack is attacking corporate networks in a fresh attack against high-value targets.

In a blog post (via ZDNet), the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center says the Russian hacking group known as Strontium (perhaps more widely known as Fancy Bear) is responsible for the new attack, which occurred in April.

According to Microsoft, the attack went after “a VOIP phone, an office printer, and a video decoder,” exploiting some pretty poor security measures that we’re all likely guilty of to gain access: unchanged default passwords.  Read more…

Around 15 years ago, Naomi Oreskes, a historian of science, observed that many reporters repeatedly covered climate change in a puzzling way.

The popular media wrote about the topic as if there was still “a great debate” about whether human-caused climate change was occurring, said Oreskes, now a professor of the history of science at Harvard University. But among the atmospheric scientists, geologists, and oceanographers actively researching and publishing peer-reviewed research on the topic, there was no debate. 

“None of the scientists I knew, working in the area, thought there was any doubt that man-made climate change was underway,” Oreskes recalled. Read more…

Alaska’s exceptional summer continues. 

The most rapidly changing state in the U.S. has no sea ice within some 150 miles of its shores, according to high-resolution sea ice analysis from the National Weather Service. The big picture is clear: After an Arctic summer with well above-average temperatures, warmer seas, and a historic July heat wave, sea ice has vanished in Alaskan waters.

“Alaska waters are ice free,” said Rick Thoman, a climate specialist at the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy.

“This is definitely an extreme year — even by more recent standards in a changed Arctic,” noted Walt Walt Meier, a senior research scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center.  Read more…
