New MacOS 10.14 features appear to leak ahead of WWDC 2018

It wouldn’t be a huge annual trade show without a few appetite-whetting leaks.

Just a few short days before Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) kicks off on June 4, an apparent leaks points to some incoming MacOS updates. While there’s surely more to be revealed, it looks like MacOS 10.14 will sport both a “dark mode” and an Apple News app.

The discoveries come from developer Steve Troughton-Smith (h/t 9to5Mac). He came across the new bits while he was fiddling around with the Mac App Store API.

Kimmy Schimdt is back and more fudging fantastic than ever before.

The first half of the fourth and final season of the Netflix comedy premiered on May 30. And co-creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock appear to be going out with a bang, holding nothing back.

The jokes feel more thoughtful, biting, uninhibited, and timely than any previous season. The show tackles everything from #MeToo (with direct shout outs to Harvey Weinstein and Bill O’Reilly) to the sexism of tech startup culture.

‘Queer Eye’ Season 2 will strive to be more inclusive

Netflix’s Queer Eye is the gift that keeps on giving. A new video from Entertainment Tonight teases the upcoming second season, in which Karamo Brown says women and trans people will be part of future episodes.

ET noted that it’s pride month, which includes the entire LGBTQ+ spectrum. It’s a segment of American society that continues to be underrepresented in movies, but fares slightly better on TV. Google, facing an internal rebellion, will end its work with the U.S. military

Google is breaking up with the Pentagon.

The tech company has made it clear that when a contract with the United States Department of Defense expires in 2019, said contract won’t be renewed. Employees were informed on Friday when Diane Greene, the head of Google Cloud, shared the news during a weekly meeting.

According to Gizmodo, the announcement was motivated by a desire to shut down an employee rebellion before it could go any further. Google’s internal unrest became the subject of public record back in April, when thousands signed a letter protesting the company’s work with the Defense Department. Read more…

Samsung reportedly planning an August reveal for the Galaxy Note 9

Like clockwork, the dog days of summer look set to bring revelations about Samsung’s next super-sized Galaxy smartphone.

The Galaxy Note 9 is reportedly pegged for an Aug. 9 reveal, according to Bloomberg. It’s not quite confirmed, with the site pointing only to “people familiar with the matter,” but August makes sense.

Last year’s Galaxy Note 8 was revealed in Aug. 2017, with the smartphone subsequently releasing in September. Bloomberg suggests that the Note 9 will be revealed during a similar “Unpacked” event in New York, but it will happen a couple weeks earlier than the last one, which fell on Aug. 23. Read more…

Internet boyfriend Benedict Cumberbatch literally fought off a bunch of muggers

Benedict Cumberbatch helped fight off a group of muggers attacking a cyclist in London, a mere stone’s throw from Sherlock Holmes’ Baker Street home.

“The cyclist was lucky, Benedict’s a superhero,” said Cumberbatch’s Uber driver, who witnessed the whole thing and eventually joined to help.

Yeah, we know.

Cumberbatch reportedly leapt out of his Uber to help the struggling cyclist, who was being attacked by no less than four assailants. Bystanders told The Sun that he shouted “Leave him alone!” and then pulled the muggers off their victim. Read more…

Reddit recently discovered an Android glitch that spits back a user’s recent texts when they search a certain phrase — specifically, “the1975..com” — in the Google Search app or Google AssistantOther users reported a similar result after searching “Vizel viagens,” “Izela viagens, and “Zela viagens.” 

While the issue was originally found on the Pixel, other androids users on OnePlus, Samsung, LG, and Huawei phones experienced the same glitch. Read more…

Watch Trump straight up lie about reading the letter from Kim Jong-un

Trump’s doing that thing again.

A North Korean delegation visited the White House on Friday to hand deliver a letter to President Trump. During a press appearance, Trump said it was a “very nice” and “very interesting” letter.

“Oh, would you like to see what was in that letter,” Trump told reporters, then pointing at the crowd and asking, “How much? How much?” 

“It was a very interesting letter,” Trump said. 

Eight minutes later, according to the Washington Post, Trump admitted that he hadn’t even opened the letter when a reporter asked if he sent anything back. Read more…
