Cathay Pacific made a pretty hilarious typo on its own plane

TwitterFacebook

Everyone’s made a typo in their life, including international airlines.

Cathay Pacific gained plenty of internet attention after a new paint job on one of its planes resulted in the misspelling of the airline’s name.

Someone unfortunately forgot to include the “F” in the name, leaving it to be read as “Cathay Paciic.”

According to the South China Morning Post, the error was first spotted on the Hong Kong Aviation Discussion Board. At least Cathay Pacific found it funny too.

Oops this special livery won’t last long! She’s going back to the shop!

Trump supporters think their ‘election night meltdown’ videos are being deleted

TwitterFacebook

Is YouTube deleting those popular pro-Trump video compilations mocking Democrats and liberals “melting down” over Donald Trump’s 2016 election night win?

No, but a conspiracy theory is gaining traction on Reddit alleging just that.

On /r/The_Donald, Reddit’s main Trump community consisting of more than 650,000 members, a post detailing yet another manufactured case of tech’s “anti-conservative bias” has taken off. “HAPPENING: YouTube is CURRENTLY mass censoring and deleting videos of the 2016 election night meltdown,” the post, which currently has more than 5,000 upvotes, states. “Take a look yourself. What was previously filled with compilations and clips of Democrats losing their minds has been replaced with MSM outlets. Find what you can and save.”  Read more…

How Magic Leap compares to Microsoft HoloLens

TwitterFacebook

I first tried out Microsoft HoloLens a few years ago, a few months before its launch as a developer tool, and came away with similar impressions that many tech journalists had at the time: the tech was intriguing and impressive in some ways, but its limited field of view diminished the experience considerably.

I’ve used HoloLens a few times since then at demos and events, and although there have been improvements, they haven’t changed fundamental experience — or its limitations.

Magic Leap, which launched its developer hardware in August, provoked similar reactions. Although the product is different from HoloLens in many ways — it’s more steampunk goggles than futuristic visor, and you need to carry around a small hockey-puck computer to make it work — most people who had hands-on time with the device had similar observations: Here was a very promising augmented-reality experience that also suffers from field-of-view limitations and a lack of compelling software (although the latter criticism may have changed on Wednesday, with the release of a Magic Leap version of Angry Birds Read more…

TwitterFacebook

What would the internet look like in 1975? Can you picture scrolling through Instagram in 1984, or tweeting in 1991?

Graphic designer Future Punk reimagined sites like Reddit, Amazon, and SoundCloud as retro logos from the 1970s to the mid-1990s. Complete with classic title music and animations that look like they’re straight off your grandma’s favorite VHS tape, Future Punk’s logos will bring you back a few decades.

Redditors commented on the video, noting that it felt like “being a kid watching late night shows” and that the nostalgic vibes were comforting. The logos even went viral on Tumblr.  Read more…

It’s not just the hacks and outright scams that make cryptocurrency a risky investment.

According to a report from the office of the New York state attorney general, the exchanges themselves — the places where would-be investors go to buy and sell cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ether — are not doing enough to protect their customers. And that should concern you.
