TwitterFacebook

After nearly a decade of tweaking the Galaxy lineup, Samsung has created the most exciting phone that the company has seen in, well, forever.

The S10 comes in three models: The S10 itself, the bigger S10+, and the cheaper S10e. The line features edge-to-edge display (curved on the S10 and S10+) and essentially non-existent bezels, an FHD+ default resolution (they’re the first HDR+ certified phone screens, actually), three cameras including an ultra-wide one, Wireless PowerShare charging, and lightning fast OnePlus performance with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 885 chip. Even Apple diehards can probably agree that the Galaxy S10 is the best-looking phone they’ve ever seen. Read more…

First look at Samsung’s sleek Galaxy Watch Active

TwitterFacebook

It was easy to miss amid all the foldable phone hype, but Samsung revealed its latest smartwatch Wednesday at its Unpacked event: the $199 Galaxy Watch Active.

But just because it didn’t have much time in the spotlight doesn’t mean the Galaxy Watch Active  isn’t worth checking out. While Samsung’s prior smartwatches have tended to be massive, its latest wearable is much more subtle — and one I’m much more likely to want to actually wear.

Meet the Galaxy Watch Active

A followup to last year’s Galaxy Watch, the first thing you’ll notice about the Galaxy Watch Active is that it’s not nearly as bulky as the relatively massive Galaxy Watch.  Read more…

Pilot writes ‘I’m bored’ in the sky. Yeah, also draws two dicks.

TwitterFacebook

We guess this pilot had nothing better to do.

A pilot in Perth, Australia flew his plane to spell out the words “I’m bored,” as per a FlightAware map tracking the journey. Of course, he also drew two dicks in the sky.

The Diamond Star plane left Parafield Airport at 8:53 a.m. local time, and took quite the extended route before landing at the same airport three hours later.

As reported by PerthNow, the pilot in question is thought to be a newly-qualified instructor, and was tasked with breaking in the plane’s engine so that it could be used as an instructional aircraft.  Read more…

Why won’t Samsung let us see its foldable phone?

TwitterFacebook

Samsung may have just unveiled the most exciting new phone in years. Or, it may have unveiled a nearly $2,000 disappointment that just so happens to have a flexible display.

We don’t actually know, because the company barely let us see the phone that’s supposed to herald a new era of smartphone design. Samsung kicked off its Unpacked event by cutting to the chase: it officially revealed the Galaxy Fold, a fold-up phone that doubles as a tablet.

It’s an impressive feat of engineering, to be sure. And the brief demos we caught a glimpse of onstage were certainly more impressive than the clunky and dimly lit demo we saw back in November. Samsung execs showed off the phone’s folding and unfolding abilities, and demonstrated a couple apps: Spotify and Google Maps, as well as three-way multitasking. Read more…

7 takeaways from Mark Zuckerberg’s long discussion at Harvard about Facebook

TwitterFacebook

Mark Zuckerberg has a lot on his mind, and he’s ready to go off-script… sort of.

The Facebook CEO returned to his alma mater Wednesday to discuss Facebook and the numerous issues facing the platform. Zuckerberg joined the head of Harvard Law’s Berkman Klein Center for internet and society, Jonathan Zittrain, for the chat.

The talk was the first of several that Zuckerberg plans to host, making good on his 2019 personal challenge “to host a series of public discussions about the future of technology in society,” which Zuckerberg announced in January.

The two engaged in an earnest and even jovial hour and forty five minute conversation about issues like democracy, privacy, surveillance, misinformation, and more.  Read more…

Lyft reportedly will beat Uber to IPO

TwitterFacebook

The two competing ride-hailing apps Lyft and Uber both filed paperwork before the end of 2018 to go public in 2019. Now it looks like Lyft’s initial public (IPO) offering will beat out Uber’s.

CNBC reported Wednesday that Lyft’s IPO will launch around March 18, while Uber’s will need a few more weeks to prepare.

Uber dwarfs Lyft in most ways — it’s valued at around $90 billion, while CNBC said Lyft’s latest valuation is around $20 million. Uber also has a vast presence. It’s available in more than 600 cities around the world while Lyft only operates in the U.S. and Canada.  Read more…

Where the 2020 presidential candidates stand on marijuana legalization

TwitterFacebook

If there’s one thing that united Democrats and Republicans in the Reagan era (besides their unfortunate fixation with perms), it was their near universal hatred of weed. Everybody was a cop back then. Walter Mondale, the Democratic candidate for president in 1984, called for another “War on Drugs” — all drugsRonald Reagan, for his part, believed that marijuana was “probably the most dangerous drug in the United States.”

Fast forward to the 2020 election, when politicians have largely done an about-face, at least when it comes to weed. Politicians aren’t just campaigning for medical marijuana, they’re advocating for recreational marijuana to be legalized: explicitly, vocally, and on their campaign pages. Read more…
