FaceApp’s old filter lets young people fantasize about surviving climate change

TwitterFacebook

As millennials we’ve grown uniquely accustomed to going about life with the dark, inescapable, undeniable knowledge of our own imminent deaths.

Every year the scientists keep coming out with new estimates for how long climate change will afford humanity’s continued existence on planet Earth. And every time, these estimates give younger generations fewer and fewer years to imagine having a future.

Let’s be real millennials and gen Z are using face app because we know there’s a 99% chance climate change will end us all before we get to be that agepic.twitter.com/2lwqucAkpJ

Netflix unveils stunning first teaser for ‘The Witcher’ at Comic-Con

TwitterFacebook

At San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, Henry Cavill gave fans a chance to finally see Netflix’s take on Andrzej Sapkowski’s much-beloved fantasy series — and it did not disappoint.

The beloved story of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Cavill) has been told many times over, with a feature-length film, a short-running TV series, numerous graphic novels, and a video game franchise. While many have done the story justice, Witcher fans are eager to see it tackled again, especially by a content producer as highly praised as Netflix.

Little is known about the streaming service’s plan for the world of The Continent, but you can bet there will be beasts aplenty. Especially Cavill. I mean, that man worked out. Read more…

Libra hasn’t even launched yet, and Facebook is already in trouble over it

TwitterFacebook

The words “permissionless” and “regulated” don’t exactly go together. But Facebook’s cryptocurrency project, Libra, is promising to adhere to regulations and be open to everyone, which may turn out to be a tough — if not impossible — task.

That’s assuming there will even be a Libra coin, as originally envisioned.

It’s been a nightmarish week for Libra, with U.S. senators (Democrats and Republicans alike) grilling Facebook’s David Marcus; President Trump saying Libra coin will have “little standing or dependability”; German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz warning against the very idea of private companies launching currencies; and U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin saying Libra raises “significant concerns.”  Read more…

This company created ‘automated following’ so two trucks only need one driver

TwitterFacebook

Peloton Technology is moving autonomous vehicles along faster than most robo-taxis.

At the Automated Vehicles Symposium in Orlando this week, Peloton unveiled its highly autonomous driving system for trucks — that plural “trucks” is key. This isn’t one truck going it alone with just sensors, cameras, and software guiding it across deserted highways. It’s a platoon set-up with a lead and follow truck. The follow truck is truly driverless, and that’s where the innovation comes in.

Peloton calls this “automated following.” The system is similar to its predecessor, PlatoonPro, a Level 1 automation software and hardware system that connects the two trucks and lets the follower driver take her or his foot off the brakes and gas. But since it’s still Level 1, the driver has hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. The step shown this week is Level 4 autonomy, with a truck capable of driving on its own, sans driver, as it follows a truck with a driver at the wheel (that’s known as Level 0 or 1 autonomy). Your first look at ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 4 is here, and it’s super silly

TwitterFacebook

We have our first glimpse at the long-awaited fourth season of Rick and Morty and it’s got almost everything you could ask for: Morty, an alien, Jerry, and rage. No Rick this time, unfortunately.

As we learned in May, Rick and Morty is returning with Season 4 in November, and frankly this first clip is pretty grounded compared to some of the things that we’ve seen in the show thus far.

It looks like in this episode, Morty and Jerry are working with an alien who is an app developer and has developed an app for them that they want pulled, as well as an ominous beeping app. It’s not a lot to go on, but hey, it’s the first new clip in two years. Read more…

Four Loko teamed up with Fleshlight for a monstrosity called ‘Sex In A Can’

TwitterFacebook

Raise your hands if you’ve ever wanted to fuck a can of Four Loko.

Nobody? None at all?

Nobody — not a single soul — asked for it, but two deeply cursed brands have teamed up for a historic collaboration that’s sure to lead to regrets all around: A Four Loko Fleshlight.

Selling for the perfectly reasonable price of $69, the toy is sure to bring back all the adolescent memories you’d probably prefer to forget. What’s more reminiscent of painfully awkward sexual awakenings than sticking your dick in things that you should never have stuck your dick into? You don’t need to risk the cuts and scrapes from making love to a soda can — now, you can safely make your fantasy a reality thanks to Fleshlight’s textured “Mini-Lotus” canal.  Read more…

‘Sky: Children of the Light’, the spiritual successor to ‘Journey’, makes you believe in a better world

TwitterFacebook

Thatgamecompany co-founder Jenonva Chen, the mind behind wildly acclaimed titles like Journey and Flower, designs games with one simple but seemingly impossible goal: to create virtual worlds where people are nice to each other.

In 2012, the monolithic Journey achieved that seemingly impossible task. The minimalist online game stripped players of all identity, rendering each an identical, anonymous robed figure without a name or any ability to communicate aside from chirps.

By doing away with all the typical conventions of a multiplayer game (voice chat, competitiveness, usernames), Journey left the strangers it paired together with no other option than to cooperate on their adventure through its gorgeous and mysterious world. Famously, one other form of interaction became common practice among players, which Chen and his team never accounted for.  Read more…

The ‘Cats’ trailer gave everyone nightmares, so we’re coping with memes

TwitterFacebook

The CATS trailer dropped on Thursday and everyone is deeply uncomfortable.

Many stage-to-screen productions are wonderful adaptations of beloved stories, showing off the vast expanse of creativity that dwells within the entertainment industry. This is… something else.

With a star-studded cast that includes James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, and Rebel Wilson, audiences would expect a spectacular performance. That’s not to say that the movie won’t be spectacular, but the trailer shows two minutes and 20 seconds of very famous actors digitally dressed in fur unitards and cat ears, getting into the various shenanigans that typical house cats adore.  Read more…
