NASA Mars rover sends back photos of shimmering, otherworldly clouds

Mars doesn’t have too many cloudy days, so this new set of images from a NASA-operated rover is a full-on treat.

The Curiosity rover has been gathering data on the Red Planet since it touched down in Aug. 2016. And now, while many space watchers’ eyes are turned toward the Perseverance rover and Ingenuity helicopter that both arrived in February, Curiosity is here to remind us that it’s still putting in plenty of work, too.

So. Back to clouds. They’re not as common on Mars as they are on Earth because the Mars atmosphere is thin and dry, and the clouds that we all see here on Earth are basically just floating water vapor. They do happen on Mars, but it’s usually near the planet’s equator and only during the winter when Mars’ orbit takes it as far from the sun as it ever gets.  Read more…

You’ll have to wait until June if you want an Apple Podcasts subscription

You'll have to wait until June if you want an Apple Podcasts subscription

Apple needs a little more time to ready its premium podcasts service for would-be subscribers.

The Apple Podcasts subscription, revealed during the company’s “4/20” event, was originally set to launch in May. The subscription, which costs $19.99 per year, will be available “in more than 170 countries” and offers listeners ad-free podcasts, access to bonus materials, and “early or exclusive” access to the network’s latest series.

All of those features will have to wait, though, as Apple has informed podcasters in an email, obtained by 9to5Mac, that the release plan has slipped out of May. “To ensure we are delivering the best experience for creators and listeners, Apple Podcasts Subscriptions and channels will now launch in June,” the email reads. Learning to use MeisterTask felt like yet another project on my to-do list

Learning to use MeisterTask felt like yet another project on my to-do list

Imagine, if you will (or don’t because you’re already here), that the amount of work to be done was large and overwhelming. Visualize trying to wrap your mind around it by organizing the information, sorting it by priority and due date, and ultimately bringing order to your chaos. That’s the goal of a good task management system. At their best, they function smoothly and fade into the background.

That’s not the case with MeisterTask, which demands so much of your attention that it feels like an extra project all on its own. There are so many tiny confusing details and features that don’t work quite as well as I wanted them to. Using the software to its full potential would have required so much more work, instead of less.  Read more…

NASA’s Mars Ingenuity helicopter spirals erratically on sixth flight (but still takes a stunning photo)

NASA's Mars Ingenuity helicopter spirals erratically on sixth flight (but still takes a stunning photo)

We’re happy you’re safe, Ingenuity.

NASA’s Ingenuity Mars helicopter flipped like a coin in the air after venturing out on its sixth flight above the Red Planet. The unexpectedly turbulent flight happened on May 22, but NASA just released information about the “in-flight anomaly” on May 27.

The helicopter was on a mission to “demonstrate aerial-imaging capabilities,” according to an article published on NASA’s website by Håvard Grip, Ingenuity Mars Helicopter Chief Pilot at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Ingenuity managed to fly 33 feet above the Martian landscape and snap an image of the planet’s surface (pictured above) before things started spiraling.  Read more…

This weekend is your last chance to backup all of your pictures and videos on Google Photos for free

This weekend is your last chance to backup all of your pictures and videos on Google Photos for free

Pictures from your baby’s first birthday. Old photos of grandparents long gone. Videos from your wedding day. If you have a lot of digital pictures and videos scattered around your various computers and hard drives, you’ll want to back them up.

And this Memorial Day weekend is your last chance to back them up with a reputable service, absolutely free.

Google Photos launched in May 2015. Over the past five years, more than 4 trillion photos have been uploaded to the platform. This whole time, users could upload their photos and videos to the cloud service as backup — albeit, at a slightly lower quality than the original media file — and have peace of mind, at no cost. What to do when you get stuck in a masturbation rut

What to do when you get stuck in a masturbation rut

May is National Masturbation Month, and we’re celebrating with Feeling Yourself, a series exploring the finer points of self-pleasure.

When it comes to getting off, we all know the quickest way to get the job done.

Being intimately acquainted with the fastest route to giving yourself an orgasm can be a wonderful thing.  And if it ain’t broke don’t fix it — there’s certainly nothing bad about masturbating the same way over and over again. As Dr Britney Blair, licensed clinical psychologist and co-founder of Lover: the Sexual Wellness App, says: “there’s nothing wrong with having a go-to location, position, technique, and fantasy.”  Read more…

7 underrated songs from beloved animations (that aren’t Disney movies)

7 underrated songs from beloved animations (that aren't Disney movies)

Whether belting out “Let It Go,” punching air to “I’ll Make A Man Out Of You,” or performing “I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)” with a jaded cynicism that belies our years, most of us are familiar with the joys of a good cartoon singalong.

Yet famous Disney princess movies aren’t the only animations with impressive singable soundtracks. Many other animated films and television shows feature equally fun and catchy songs which could easily fit in on a Spotify playlist, but just don’t get as much attention as their more well-known peers from the House Of Mouse. Fortunately, this means you’re probably less likely to get tired of them due to overexposure. Read more…
