Apple’s going to have to do something reckless to top this Prime Day deal on one of the AirPods closest rivals: As of June 21, Google’s second-gen Pixel Buds were on sale at Walmart for just $79 — that’s a whole 56% off their suggested retail price of $179 and their best-ever discount by far. 

Come to think of it, this discount means the Pixel Buds have managed to beat the all-time-low price of the cheapest AirPods by a good $20. (We saw the $159 ones with the wired charging case hit $99 last Black Friday.) Your move, Tim Cook.  Read more…

Carl Nassib came out as gay in an Instagram post, making NFL history as the first openly LGBTQ active player. 

The 28-year-old Las Vegas Raiders defensive end came out in an Instagram post on Monday, and said he “agonized over this moment for the last 15 years.” 

“I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay,” Nassib said in the video he posted during Pride Month. “I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, but finally feel comfortable getting it off my chest. I really have the best family, friends, and job a guy can ask for.” 

He added that he’s a “pretty private person” and asserted that he isn’t coming out for attention, but that representation and visibility were important. In an ideal world, Nassib hoped, formally coming out wouldn’t even be necessary. Until then, he plans to “cultivate a culture that’s accepting,” by donating $100,000 to the Trevor Project, a nonprofit focused on suicide prevention and building community among LGBTQ youth.  Read more…

Save $70: The Apple TV 4K (32GB, 4th gen) is on sale for $99 at Walmart as of June 21.

Fire TV gear is one of Amazon’s heavy hitters for Prime Day. 

Walmart technically can’t compete directly. It simply doesn’t have a huge proprietary streaming platform like that. So it said fine — our version of a Prime Day streaming deal will be dropping the 32GB Apple TV 4K below $100.

This 4th gen model doesn’t have the nice, upgraded remote that Apple just released in April. But we can probably thank that new version for giving the go-ahead to such a juicy discount. Even the previous Apple TV 4K rarely sees discounts — the best deal we could find during Cyber Monday was a $50 Apple gift card tacked onto full price Apple TV 4Ks from Apple’s website itself.
