Look up Tuesday night to see Jupiter shining in all its glory

TwitterFacebook

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, will take an outsized place in our night sky on Tuesday, May 8.

Head outside after sunset this evening and look to the east. You’ll likely see a bright “star” standing out against a backdrop of dim objects high in the sky.

According to NASA, Wednesday marks opposition for Jupiter, meaning that it’s directly opposite the sun in the sky from Earth’s perspective.

“Wait a few hours after sunset, when Jupiter is higher in the sky, for the best views,” NASA said in a skywatching video. “If you viewed Jupiter last month, expect the view to be even better this month.” Read more…

TwitterFacebook

This post is part of Mashable’s Masturbation Week. May is National Masturbation Month, so we’re celebrating by exploring the many facets of self-love.

Most medical professionals generally consider masturbation to be a healthy, productive exercise.

But it can go too far. When it becomes an obsession, especially when paired with porn, that’s where the subreddit r/NoFap comes in. Named after a slang term for masturbation, r/NoFap may be the largest internet resource for people looking to stop or take a break from the activity.

Why would anyone feel the need to join such a group? Some, like Reddit user HardModeSoldier, believe sustaining from masturbation will allow their sexual energy to be better channeled: “I would tell my younger self one thing: retain. Retain your vital energy and use it to better your life.” Read more…

Watch a guy named Feliks Zemdegs solve a Rubik’s Cube in 4.22 seconds

TwitterFacebook

Most of us can’t solve a Rubik’s Cube to save a life, let alone finish the puzzle in seconds.

Australian speedcuber Feliks Zemdegs certainly makes it look easy, especially when he broke the Rubik’s Cube world record (again) at the Cube for Cambodia competition in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday.

Zemdegs, who had previously held the world record, managed to solve a Rubik’s Cube at a frighteningly quick 4.22 seconds, beating a record of 4.59 which was both held by Feliks and South Korea’s SeungBeom Cho.

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Patrick Ponce was the previous record holder, when it was both Feliks and Cho who simultaneously held the record. Read more…

The new couple arrived at the Met Gala together — Musk in a white priest-looking tux and Grimes dressed as a goth robot.

According to Page Six, nerdy, niche jokes are the reason the two are a couple. Apparently, Musk wanted to tweet a joke about AI, but Grimes had already made it.
