Can you picture a scenario in which Oreo cookies are discussed at a House Financial Services Committee hearing?

No? That’s OK. No need to imagine hypotheticals, because as it turns out, on Tuesday HUD Secretary Ben Carson name-dropped the popular Nabisco sandwich cookie on the stand. He accidentally mixed Oreo cookies up with REO, a common real estate term. Casual!

After California Congresswoman Katie Porter asked Carson to explain a disparity in REO rates, she took the time to confirm that he actually knew what REO stood for. And it’s a good thing she double checked, because Carson most certainly did not know. Read more…

The idea here is to allow owners to fix a range of problems without going through the hassle, time, and expense of having to schedule a Service appointment. As the list below reveals, the maintenance you can carry out at home is quite basic, but Tesla should be commended for offering this support.

It looks like you fell down. Someone will be there between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to assist you. 

Yes, that’s right, everyone’s favorite and definitely trusted company, Comcast, is working on a smart  device of some kind with voice-interactive features to monitor customers’ health. The news, first reported by CNBC, was independently confirmed by Mashable. The tracker will be pilot tested laster this year. 

Importantly, unlike the Google Home or Amazon Echo, Comcast’s foray into in-home devices won’t search the web or recite the forecast. Instead, it will reportedly track customer bathroom trips, and how much time they spend in bed. The company is also reportedly working on a way to track if customers have fallen down in their homes.  Read more…

Tesla has reportedly hired Adam Koszary, the man responsible for the “absolute unit” meme, as its new social media manager.

Koszary, who used to work as the program manager for the Museum of English Rural Life, is known for tweeting a photo of a large ram from the museum’s account in April 2018. The caption: “Look at this absolute unit.” 

A lot of people did look at that absolute unit, and thus a genuinely good meme was born.

But nothing gold can stay. After a full calendar year in the “wholesome” category, the meme was ruined last month when Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk saw it in a tweet from the MIT Technology Review, then decided he liked it. He even changed his Twitter avatar to the sheep (an Exmoor Horned aged ram) and his bio to “absolūt unit.” (Both have since been removed.) In response, the museum changed its avi to a photo of Musk. It was a whole thing, but at least Elon wasn’t getting in trouble with the SEC for it. Read more…

Game of Thrones may have come to an underwhelming end, but the memes keep on giving. The film boys are out, and they have takes.

While not all fans were pumped with how the show ended, it has always been visually stunning, aside from a few wayward beverages. From the incredibly detailed costumes to the shots of sweeping landscapes, we can at least agree on one thing: Game of Thrones is beautiful. But one cinephile took to Twitter to emphasize just how amazing the one scene in the finale was. 

Fresh off her murderous rampage after destroying the city she tried to liberate, Daenerys turns to face her army of Unsullied and Dothraki soldiers. As she walks toward her force, her dragon opens his wings and takes flight, and the queen appears to have dragon wings sprouting from her back, too.  Read more…

The Trump administration is temporarily easing its ban on Huawei.

In an announcement on Monday, the U.S. Department of Commerce said it would be giving the Chinese tech giant a 90-day exemption from trade restrictions, thanks to a Temporary General License (TGL).

Last week, Huawei was added to the department’s entity list, which bars the company from buying U.S. parts and components without U.S. government approval, citing national security concerns regarding its telecommunications equipment.

The TGL, effective Monday, will allow Huawei users to continue receiving software updates on their phones, while the company can continue to purchase parts from U.S. suppliers. Read more…
